Made the trek out to Minoa's again today because my business associate wanted lamb. And who serves the best lamb in the Lower Mainland? .... yes, ... Minoa's. Not sure how they can afford to make any money, but it was the biggest, most succulent lamb I have ever seen. Even though I usually go vegetarian, even I had a bite. It was delicious, tender, the aroma from the herbs ..... incredible!
I had the patistio with greek salad. Loved the way they prepare the rice and potatoes. I gave the garlic sauce that comes with it to my friend who wanted it to dip the pita bread into.
We had a bottle of a new Greek wine that they are now carrying. Didn't get the name, but it is very good. It was a full bodied red.
No dessert. No coffee, but the people who walked past us (a group of local teachers) all raved about the coffee drinks. I don't know if they were loaded up, or just drip. They all smelled delicious when the waiter walked past us to deliver them to the table next to us.
Before leaving Anna and her mum gave us a couple of their homemade cookies. Oh, I love those cookies!
Forgot to mention that the place was packed and had to park a block away. It was worth the long drive (30 minutes) and block walk in the rain to get there.
Thank you to Anna, the mum and the staff. Another incredible meal. 5 out of 5 stars. Two thumbs up.
Love this place. Found it by accident last month. The food is first class. The service is prompt and the waitresses are lovely. Great value. The parking lot is a mess and always packed. The tables are too close to each other to have a decent conversation so sit at the bar. The chefs greet us each time. There is never a problem with the order and the food is served promptly with very little delay. The tuni sashimi is my favourite. The agadeshi tofu is a close second. Third would be the dynamite roll/cone. If I am within 15 minutes of the restaurant I always make a detour to eat there. My friends and I love it. I eat sushi and Japanese all the time in Vancouver and know quality. This place is great.
Been to Minoa's a dozen times now. I can always rely upon the food and service. Anna and her mother always greet us warmly. The food is served promptly and hot. Favourites: saganaki, lamb, yemista. My friends in the Burnaby area always ask me to take them there when I come out to that area. Love the ambiance: the wood floors, music and the breeze that wafts through the upstairs on a hot summer day. 4 out of 5 stars everytime.
Although I am surrounded by dozens of incredible traditional sushi and contemporary izakays restaurants in downtown Vancouver I do make regular pilgrimages out to Kiku Sushi in Burnaby because the quality, portions and service are so incredible.
The owner is always there ensuring that the quality never wavers. The staff is incredibly attentive and pay extreme attention to detail. I normally start with the avocado roll and then move up to their Dragon Rolls, Caterpillar rolls. Occasionally I opt for their delicious nabeyaki udon (tempura on the side so it stays cripsy).
I recommend Kiku highly to everyone. I have been going for many years (5?) and it is one of the only places in town I know I can always rely upon.
