Moka House16041 24th Avenue, #40, Surrey
I would definitely go here again
Submitted Friday, October 30, 2009 - 5:37pm [Dine in]

My husband and I tried the Moka House on October 29th. It appears to be under new ownership or management. I ordered a quad shot (half caffeine) latte and it was delicious. My husband ordered a decaf Americano and said it was equally delicious. They also have muffins, bagels, cookies, sandwiches, tea, juice etc, etc.

This Moka House is located in the new Grandview Heights shopping centre and is across from The Garage clothing store and kitty corner from Indigo books.

I would definitely go here again. My latte was probably the best one I have had in quite a while.

Sharkey's Seafood Bar & Grille4953 Chisholm Street, Delta
Great Lunch
Submitted Thursday, May 7, 2009 - 5:27pm [Dine in]

We've been to Sharkey's twice and the food was wonderful. My husband ordered Clam Strips and fries the first time and they were (apparently) so good that I did not get a taste. I shared a Chicken, Spinach and Feta Panini which came with a lovely fresh green salad.

The second time we visited Sharkey's we were with a group of about 25 people. Sharkey's knew ahead of time that we were coming and we arrived at about 2:30 p.m. on a Sunday. My husband ordered the Two-piece fish and chips and I again ordered the Chicken, Spinach and Feta Panini. All of the food coming from the Kitchen looked and smelled delicious.

We are looking forward to visiting again during the summer and sitting outside on their patio.

I would recommend that you try Sharkeys.

Good Food and Friendly Service
Submitted Thursday, May 7, 2009 - 5:08pm [Dine in]

Have been going to the South Pointe Pub for the past four years and we have found it to be a great little pub with consistently great food. The man (in my life) always orders the South Point Burger with fries. I have tried various things on their menus from the pizza (which is good), to all of the Burgers which are Excellent. They also have Salmon, Chicken and a variety of fresh and tasty salads on the menu. They have all kinds of TV's scattered around so there is not a bad view of a game at the pub.

If you haven't tried it, I would recommend that you do because I think you will have a great meal and a fun time..

We had great pizza here !!!
Submitted Friday, May 1, 2009 - 2:31pm [Dine in]

My husband and I visited OPP for the fourth time on April 29, 2009. The three previous times (spread over the last year or so) were a mix of pretty good to just okay. Initially, our first visit was sparked by the beautiful building - the food on that visit was just okay - but probably just opening jitters. The second visit and third vists were okay.

This visit we both ordered pizzas and I am here to tell you they were outstanding!!! He ordered a Pepperoni thin crust and I ordered the Chicken Feta and Spinach (yummmm). Our server was welcoming and efficient.

I am looking forward to a return visit because it has become our go to place for delicious pizza for us.

Sincerely,

Seahorse Grill12147 Sullivan Street, Surrey
A little gem in Crescent Beach
Submitted Sunday, July 6, 2008 - 4:19pm [Dine in]

After spending Saturday June 28, 2008 at Crescent Beach my husband and I decided to have dinner at The Seahorse Grill. We arrived at 6:30 p.m. (without a reservation) and were very fortunate to be seated outside on the little front deck.

Summer time is extremely busy for all of the restaurants at Crescent Beach, so we were prepared to go elsewhere if no table was found for us.

Our server was attentive and knowledgeable. I ordered the Osso Buco special, and my husband ordered the Schnitzel with Spaetzel. Everything came piping hot and delicious.

We would certainly have dinner again at the Seahorse and next time we will make a reservation.

Sincerely,

Siam Thai Restaurant512 Fort St, Victoria
Good food and friendly staff
Submitted Saturday, November 17, 2007 - 11:32am [Dine in]

We went to Siam Thai with friends for the first time in July 2007. It was her birthday and their choice of places to go. They had a reservation and we were seated within about ten minutes. I cannot tell you what was ordered only that it was all delicious. I am not from Thailand and have never visited Thailand, so I am certainly not an authority on what Thai food should taste like.

We would definitely go back.

Submitted Saturday, November 17, 2007 - 11:13am [Dine in]

We were in Sidney in August 2007 and had dinner at Charles Dickens Pub. Old English decor with dart boards, fireplace and a tiny outside patio (no view). It's a pub and has pub type food (burgers, bangers and mash, fish and chips, salads, soups etc). The burgers which we ordered came piping hot and were delicious. Our server was friendly and made us feel welcome. We would definitely go back.

Barb's Place Fish & Chips310 St. Lawrence Street, Victoria
Don't believe what the Water Taxi guys say
Submitted Saturday, November 17, 2007 - 11:05am [Dine in]

We visited Victoria both in July and August 2007 and were lured to Barb's Fish and Chips by the charming Water Taxi drivers. We would never have even known about Barbs except that my husband asked where we should go for great fish and chips. I think that these guys must get free food or something. Big lineup (probably all tourists like us). Food was not very good and servers were okay but probably overwhelmed by the huge number of people there.

Ambience was great as it is located right on Fisherman's Wharf. We would not go back to Barbs's.

Demitasse Cafe1320 Blanshard Ave., Victoria
New owners make all the difference
Submitted Saturday, November 17, 2007 - 10:51am [Dine in]

About a year ago Demitasse was sold to new owners and what a difference these owners have made. This is an eclectic little cafe in an old historic building. We were there twice this past summer July and August 2007 and had breakfast both times. The food was delicious and served piping hot by friendly eclectic young people. We would definitely go back. The only reason I did not rate the food as a 4 is because I have not tried anything but breakfast (which was delicious).

Paradiso Di Stelle10 Bastion Square, Victoria
A little gem in Bastion Square
Submitted Friday, November 16, 2007 - 5:33pm [Dine in]

We've been to Paradiso many, many times over the eight years that we lived in Victoria. Their espresso based drinks are made with Illy coffee and are delicious. Italo trains his staff so that whomever makes the espresso drink - it is delicious every time.

In the summer or winter, if you are in Victoria, get a latte or a delicious panini or fresh made pasta or salad special and sit in their eclectic cafe and enjoy.....mmmmm.....try their chocolate cookies or fresh made gelato for dessert.

Pelagos Greek Restaurant2728 O'Hara Lane, Surrey
Going Greek in Crescent Beach
Submitted Friday, November 16, 2007 - 5:14pm [Dine in]

We had dinner at Pelagos on a Tuesday November 13, 2007. It is in Crescent Beach and is right on the beach so the atmosphere is lovely. Reservations in the summer time are a must.

Our appetizers were calamari for him and lamb and beef meatballs in a tomato sauce for myself. The calamari was crisp and piping hot and my meatballs were very tasty. We had the Greek Style Ribs for the main course and they were also very good. I opted to have no rice, potato or veggie and had Greek Salad instead. Everything was fresh and tasty. The service friendly and knowledgeable.

We enjoyed our meal very much and would certainly go again.

A drink with a view
Submitted Friday, November 16, 2007 - 4:46pm [Dine in]

In the summer on the deck with a glass of wine - if you can get service. The servers seem inexperienced and are clustered together surveying what is walking by on the street and not paying attention to patrons who might want a menu, drink, or food. Perhaps management is at fault here. To quote another submitter "it is what it is" and depending upon what you are looking for it may or may not be for you.

Chada Thai Fine Cuisine2991 Lougheed Hwy, #107, Coquitlam
Delicious Thai in Coquitlam
Submitted Friday, November 16, 2007 - 4:12pm [Dine in]

We were there for the first time with friends for dinner on Nov. 15, 2007. As soon as we walked through the door (of this tiny, but beautiful restaurant) the delicious aromas of tamarind, kaffir and curry enveloped us. We were not disappointed - the food was absolutely delicious and presented beautifully on white china. We started with Chada Thai Rolls which were crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Then we had Tom Yum Goong (hot and sour) soup with chicken which was very flavourful with lemon grass, kaffir leaves, coconut milk and a little spicy with chili paste. Next up, was Pa Nang Goong which was sauteed Prawns with curry and mixed veggies. Lastly, we had Pad Thai - rice noodles in tamarind sauce with chicken, prawns, egg and tofu. We ordered our dishes with mild+ spice and it was perfect.

Chef Brian came out and said hello to everyone in the restaurant (at different times during the evening) which made a lovely evening even better.

It was a little tough to locate. It is in the Sav-On food mall (across from Coquitlam Centre), but well worth the search.

We drove from South Surrey (took is 1.5 hours to get there) and will certainly return for another delicious meal. If you live anywhere in Coquitlam, Burnaby or Port Coquitlam it is really worth a visit.

bye for now
