I have been to this restaurant probably a dozen times and have received great service all, but maybe once or twice. The waiters are very attentive and friendly. The wonton soup is absolutely awesome; the base is very tasty and the wontons themselves are fresh and good ingredients, not tough at all. We always order the Shanghai noodles with pork and it's very tasty as well. The black pepper beef is very tender and delicious. I would highly recommend this restaurant.
Not sure why the reviews are so bad for this restaurant. My husband and I have been going here since they opened and love it. There are only certain dishes we order and they are fantastic. The panang curry is really flavourful and thick. The Pad Thai is the way it should be and not how most of the Thai Restaurants in Vancouver serve it....most restaurants use ketchup as their base, which is not the correct form of pad thai. We've been to Thailand and feel their pad thai comes as close to the real thing by using real tamarind in their dish. We also love this scallop dish; the sauce is really tasty and simple.
My husband and I took my mom for a Mother's Day dinner and everything we ordered was so bland and tasteless. I've heard great things about this place, so I was expecting a lot and was highly disappointed. The butter chicken was bland and runny. We ordered a fish dish was again quite bland. The naan was fine and we ordered these lamb kebobs which weren't that bad, but overall, very bland food. I am Indian and love Indian food and I think I'm a pretty good judge of it, therefore I wouldn't recommend this place at all.
I love Dim Sum and go quite often and have heard great things about Golden Swan, so needless to say, I was highly disappointed. The Haw Gao (shrimp dumplings) were quite large and not bad in taste. The Sui Mai were quite large too, but they were mediocre. The little football shaped fried dumplings w/pork filling was quite fishy and I'm not sure why. The deep fried squid was the worst I've ever had. The coating was sweet (not sure why as this isn't a dessert) and very doughy. The spring roll filling was mushy and again very fishy. There was 4 of us (and we all love Dim Sum) and it was unanimous that we would definitely not be returning. The service was pretty good though, it's just unfortunate the food didn't live up to it's reputation.
I was shocked to see such great reviews about this place. I am used to having great Dim Sum at Victoria, Imperial, Shanghai Bistro and Dai Tung. This place was awful. Portions are huge, but quality is poor. Har Gaw (sp?) was overcooked and chewy, not a sign of fresh seafood. Spring rolls were super greasy and had something really slimy inside. The deep fried pork dumplings had no meat in it whatsoever. Basically everything was bad about this place except for the price point.
If you like good dim sum, please do not go here...you'll regret it.
My husband and I went here for the first time and we're in love. Everything from the service to the quality of the food. Very fresh and tasty. Loved the hibiscus margarita, none of the slushy stuff you would find at say Las Margarita's, etc. We tried several dishes and everything was very good. The guacamole could've used a bit more flavour, but other than that, the melted cheese, pulled pork, poblano soup were to die for. The tasting menu at a mere $37 was a steal. Everything is handmade, right down to the nacho chips. The guaca paste cheese turnover for dessert was incredible. This is definitely a place you must try out.
I went here with a couple of friends. I would say most of the food was pretty good, but if you like butter chicken, it was very bland and tomato based. Stick to the prawn dish and the mini samosa's were pretty good too. Nice ambience as well. If you like halwa, I would definitely try it, very good. On the night we went, they told us they no longer carried it, so we were offered an alternative wine instead (A MUST) Joie A Noble Blend. Also, the service was really good. The waitress gave us the tandoori fries at no cost.
