Finally! Good Veggie Friendly Poutine
Submitted Sunday, July 4, 2010 - 6:52pm [Dine in]

I'm a vegetarian who unfortunately loves a good poutine from time to time. A friend of mine told me about this place and their veggie gravy so of course I had to try it - I hadn't had poutine in forever. It was surprisingly delicious! I wouldn't have been able to tell the gravy wasn't real gravy! It was very very good. The lady who was working didn't look particularly happy to be there, but she was pleasant none the less. I'd definitely recommend for late night snack after a night of hitting a bar or club. I'd definitely like to go back if I have a hankering for poutine!

I'm a vegetarian and am not a fan of this veggie friendly restaurant. Firstly, there is ALWAYS a line outside and it seems never enough staff working. The food is constantly covered in sprouts and other grass-like things that I couldn't even correctly identify. The gravy is particularly vile. The decor is alright - hippie and relaxed with lots of plants. The patio in the summer is particularly nice however. The food is "ok" at best. I really wish this place lives up to its reputation - but it doesn't not at all. People only go there because it is open 24/7 and is some sort of veggie-hipster-hang out where they can all mingle together, feel "cool" and discuss all things vegan. You often wait a while to be served - I repeat - hire more servers please! And re-vamp your menu - I don't need to search through sprouts and unidentifiable weeds to get to my food.

Solid Sushi Restaurant

I go to this sushi place often if my favourite place is closed. But I really do love Nordel Sushi. The ambiance is great, they serve beer, and they play sports on their TVs which is appreciated if the nucks' are playing and you don't want to go to a pub to watch it. I love their Vegetable Udon - it's always piping hot and delicious! I ordered take-out tonight and it was superb! I love the deep-fried-california rolls and the yam tempura rolls too. Definitely recommend!

Great Service

The workers here are extremely friendly, and greet everyone with a smile and a hello when you walk in the door. The ambiance is great, they have these booth areas with rice paper doors - very cool and unlike anything I've seen in the area. The food was pretty good, I remember the rolls were a bit small though. The price is alright - it's probably more expensive than other Sushi places in the area - but not by too much. It wouldn't be my first choice for a sushi place in the area, but it's definitely a staple if you live near by it.

Would not recommend

I really don't like going to the Delta Lion but it has been around for a while and I know a lot of people who do enjoy it. I've been once to watch a UFC fight, and it is so packed in there for one, with people just standing and flooding the bar making it impossible to reach it. What really bothered me was that I couldn't even hear the UFC fight that everyone was there to watch. They really need to work on their stereo system in there in regard to the TVs because the sound was absolutely awful. Whether or not its the placement of the speakers or what - but it sounded like mindless babbling. The food was honestly nothing special. Not impressed. I've had way better pub food. From the times that I have been there I often seem the same waitress who honestly looks like she would rather be anywhere else in the world than there. She just seems so pissed off, even when you are ordering food. I know work sucks sometimes (okay, a lot of the time) but I really don't find it enjoyable being served by someone who has a constant frown on their face. If you like hanging out with recent graduates from high school and everyone under 30 in the area - this may be the place for you - but it's definitely not the place for me and I'll avoid it at all costs.

Favourite Local Sushi Place

I absolutely love Minori Sushi! Their rolls are big and very worth the price! It's fairly cheap priced for great value. I love their Vegetable Udon and Yam Tempura Rolls. I enjoy taking people to Minori that have never been because its truly a great local place to eat at. It may not look to fantastic outside, but it's definitely worth a try! They just did some very nice renovations in their kitchen area as well.
