Hands Down Best Spot in White Rock For A Soup and Sandwich
Submitted Sunday, October 16, 2011 - 4:38pm [Dine in]

Regularly visit the Grape Leaf and always have excellent food there. They have your usual breakfast stuff (eggs & bacon), but their muffins and coffee are exceptional. Plus fruit on the breakfast plates is a nice touch that is appreciated!

Lunch sandwiches from here are top notch. I usually go for a chicken sandwich of some sort and I'm never let down. Chicken breast is always succulent and the homemade focaccia fresh bread is amazing. I don't normally go for tomatoe soup (I despise the canned stuff), but love it here.

Service is and has always has been prompt and friendly. The regular waitress that works there is great. The price you pay for this quality of food is amazing.

My wife and I went for a Sunday afternoon stroll on the pier and decided to stop in here for a light lunch. Sandwich and soup was advertised for $7 and we figured that would hit the spot. The place was relatively busy, we took the second to last table available on the patio. Nice view of the water and a bit of a car show. Ordered our food, sandwich and soup, and ended up waiting and seeing a LOT more of the view.. We waited 35 minutes for food. No refills on our drinks while we waited either. Food finally arrived, soup was fine (Watercress, cream and bacon soup?), sandwiches where made on burnt toast. My wife was hungry so she ate what she could of it. I pointed out mine was burnt to the server and she promptly (3-4 minutes) brought out a replacement sandwich that was similarly burnt! Between the two I used the least burnt bread. The turkey itself on the sandwich was a little on the dry side, but would have been OK if it wasn't for the burnt toast. We finished our meal, still no refill on our drinks.

We got our bill and our server admitted that the food wasn't great and the neither was the service and apologized for that. She took off one of the sandwiches from the bill. Although appreciated, it was a little too late to save us.

We won't be going back.
