Moderne Burger2507 West Broadway St., Vancouver
Disappointing wait
Submitted Friday, June 19, 2009 - 10:57pm [Dine in]

I've visited Moderne Burger many times prior to their renovation and was always impressed with the quality of their burgers and food. I have tried to get into the joint since the reno and had to wait soooo long on three occasions that I finally left and went elsewhere. So last weekend we finally decided to try our luck and to our surprise the place was only half full and we got a table right away. We ordered the beef burger and a turkey burger. After the huge hype about the place and also that my memories were fond, I was truly disappointed with the beef burger - truly tasteless, I had to put so much ketchup on it, that it ruined the taste and the beef tasted a bit "off". After such a long wait, I'm not sure it was worth it! Sorry Modern Burger, you didn't meet your previous standards.

Go for the dim sum!
Submitted Tuesday, December 30, 2008 - 1:48am [Dine in]

Have been to Chongquing a number of times for dim sum and dinner. Dim sum is great and we would highly recommend going for their dim sum - great taste and good value. Although when the carts go around the waitresses are abit pushy, I've learned how to handle them. We've also been for dinner a number of times and have been really satisfied except for our last recent experience. We ordered the special for 8 people, and when the cold appetizer plate came out, the chicken did not taste right. Although the waiter/manager brought out another serving of the chicken, he took another plate and chopsticks and removed the chicken directly from the plate on our table - totally unkosher in my mind! We may have ordered food from the special menu not to our liking but would never do that again...just order what you like, so you know what you're getting

Always consistently good!
Submitted Tuesday, December 30, 2008 - 1:32am [Dine in]

Have been to all locations of Banana Leaf on numerous occasions. The food is always consistently great, great flavor, great texture and good service! We most recently visited this West Broadway location and ordered the sambal green beans, rendang beef, megorang noodles, pineapple rice and sweet and sour pork chops and were not disappointed. Everything was fabulous and servings were a good size. Would highly recommend this restaurant for your malaysian fix!

Great new find!
Submitted Tuesday, December 30, 2008 - 1:25am [Dine in]

Have been to Spices a number of times now and have been impressed with the food. It's hard to find a Vietnammese restaurant that is consistently good overall and has a good atmosphere. Have ordered their lemon grass chicken and spring rolls, shrimp rolls and pho . . . and all have been great! Would definitely go back. Their prices are higher than most Vietnammese restaurants but the atmosphere and food quality are worth it.

Would definitely go back!

Have been to Watermark on a number of occasions and have always been satisfied with our experience. The food has always been great and of good value. Most recently we arrived early evening and amongst the snow and asked if we could order off the lunch menu instead of the dinner menu. The chef was very accomodating and stated that we could order whatever we would like and they would accomodate us. The food was fabulous - we order the burgers - beef and salmon and were amazed at the flavor...would definitely be back for more. The view and atmosphere is always fabulous with the window seat facing the water...what more could one ask for!

Tojo's Restaurant1133 W Broadway, Vancouver
Would never go back regardless of the food!
Submitted Tuesday, December 30, 2008 - 1:13am [Dine in]

I visited Tojo's a while back first at their old location and more recently at their new location. There's no doubt that their food and quality are great, however based on their escalated prices, we would have expected more outstanding and extraordinary dishes. However, the service we received was so poor that we would never go back - first, we waited over 45 minutes to get a table and once we were seated, waiting for our first few dishes, the waiter asked if we wouldn't mind changing tables so they could make room for a larger party. We agreed, then once we started our meal, the waiter again asked if we would mind moving so they could accomodate another large party. We again agreed, and after we moved tables, the waiter forgot the remainder of our order and we waited over 30 minutes to get all of our dishes. Although they apologized, their lack of service and lack of courtesy to existing patrons was unexcusable! They offered us "free" ice cream dessert for our troubles which we wholeheartedly declined! It was a total insult to the troubles we encountered and poor experience we received. We would never go back regardless of the food!

Revel Room238 Abbott Street, Vancouver
Great Food, Great Service, Great Atmosphere
Submitted Tuesday, December 30, 2008 - 12:25am [Dine in]

Just had a fabulous experience at Revel Room. The food was outstanding - the owner recommended we try the beet salad and duck spring rolls and mini burgers. We were not disappointed, all three appetizers were amazing - flavor, texture and taste! We would highly recommend all of them. The entrees were also great - the braised beef short ribs melted in our mouths...amazing!!!...scallops were packed with flavor and the spicy rouille (although not spicy) paired well with the scallops and the pork chop was grilled to perfection. We didn't stop there but had to have a taste of the bourbon chocolate pecan pie and were not disappointed. Again a great complement to a wonderful meal, not too sweet but packed with flavor. We had the luxury of being one of the few patrons there (because of the weather), but loved the atmosphere and music! Would highly recommend Revel Room and would definitely go back....wanting to try the late night to try the "Last Call Chocolate Chip Cookies"!
