Crab cakes? aka Potato cakes
Submitted Sunday, September 16, 2012 - 8:30pm [Take-out]

What a disappointment. Having been born and raised in North Van with the Crab Shop, I was excited when my sister said she was going to pick up crab cakes from there, since I've moved to Langey. Wow, we would have been better off buying frozen crab cakes from Superstore! THEE worst I have ever had. What a disappointment. They should be called potato cakes. I can't even detect any crab in them. I think the chunks of potato really puts me off. No seasoning, no breading. I breaded them myself and seasoned them. Bland potato cakes, and not even good potato cakes at that. Yuck.

Sonoma Grill & Lounge20598 Fraser Hwy, Langley
Don't know why we kept going back!
Submitted Friday, July 8, 2011 - 6:54pm [Dine in]

It is so sad to see what's taking place here. Let's face it, the Sonoma Grill hasn't been very good for at least 5 years... Michael tried, but still the food and the service lacked. My husband and I have been supporting this place since we moved to Langley from South Surrey. Langley sorely lacks real restaurants. (Not chains) Now however, it's past the point of even being mediocre. The service has never been particularly outstanding, THe food, not over the top... However since this new owner bought it, it has been not worth it at all. My God, my husband ordered the prawn and scallop pasta, and it came with 10 scortched toothpicks standing up in the middle of the plate! I should have taken a picture of this! Can you see the plate now? Not a great looking (or tasting) pasta to begin with, and then blackened shrivelled toothpicks standing up in a group in the middle of the plate? My husband thought it must be for holding the plastic wrap away from the pasta when microwaving lol.

I had the mussels with fennel. Not very good now. They used to be one of the best things on the menu when Michael owned it, but not anymore. Hubby had the seafood fritter to start, and it's not too bad, as I'm positive they're not freshly made. So these frozen croquettes are thrown into oil and served. One of the best things on the menu now I think. I had schnitzel the last time we were unfortunate enough to go, so I was not going to have that again. I thought I'd go for the prime rib special. I asked for it medium rare, and it came well done. It took an hour and a half for that to arrive, so no way was I about to send it back. It was almost like there was a group of 16 year olds in that kitchen... Very sad. Obviously this new owner doesn 't give a crap. I doubt he has a lot of experience in the restaurant business... because with the internet, etc, word gets around very very fast.

I also have to acknowledge the lady that works on that street. I feel as heartbroken as you are. What a waste of a beautiful space there...

So in summary, save your money. Go somewhere else.

Artful Dodger Pub, The2364 200th Street, Langley
Don't bother
Submitted Friday, May 29, 2009 - 5:59pm [Dine in]

We have lived in Langley for 4 years now, and end up at the Dodger once a month or so. We live just down the street. Unfortunately the food is just not good. Omelets that were raw in the middle, veal cutlet that looked and tasted like an overcooked hockey puck.... It's so disappointing to my husband and I since we are so close to the pub, we would love to dine there once a week because of the convenience. We try to make sure we've eaten before going up for a drink. The lady manager is so miserable, heaven help you if you ask for the music or tv to be turned down! On the other hand the service is great most of the time. I don't know who wrote the other reviews, but I think they must be friend's of the owners!
