Mediocre food and dessert buffet
Submitted Friday, May 30, 2008 - 1:01am [Dine in]

I ordered a seafood trio with salmon, prawns, and halibut (I think) plus the dessert buffet, and both were disappointing. For a $30+ dinner entree, I expected the food to be at least tasty, but the flavours were lacking and the fish was not of very good quality. I've had much better salmon and prawns at lots of other much cheaper restaurants.
The most disappointing thing was the dessert buffet. Do they know how to do good dessert? I think not. There were a lot of fruity cakes and I thought an average dessert from Safeway would beat those offered at Griffins. I enjoy desserts from Sweet Obsessions, Cheesecake, etc. and while I do not expect a dessert buffet to be as good, I really did expect much better than mediocre.

Quality food at great prices
Submitted Friday, May 30, 2008 - 12:43am [Dine in]

Two of us went for lunch and we both enjoyed the food so much that we ate everything on our plates, which happens rarely when we eat out. I ordered a chicken burger with salad and my friend ordered a pork burger with yam fries. The chicken was well cooked and seasoned, very flavourful, and the salad was elegant and refreshing. Even the buns were good. The restaurant was clean enough and comfortable to sit in, and the service was quick and friendly.

Great sushi for takeout (25% off!)
Submitted Wednesday, April 23, 2008 - 1:08pm [Dine in]

We have both dined-in and gotten takeout, and the takeout was a much more enjoyable experience.

We ordered 3 types of sushi for takeout: salmon tempura, yam tempura, and BC roll. They were very very delicious and well made with lots of fresh-tasting fillings. Plus the bill only came to $8 because you get 25% off for takeout!

Dining in was a different story. The restaurant was dirty looking and the lights were dim. Service was okay, but a bit on the rude side. I don't understand the bad service these days. I wasn't even comfortable sitting in the chairs because they seemed unclean. I ordered noodles and they were greasy and bland. My friend ordered a combo and it was just okay. We would definitely go back for takeout sushi, but not for dining in.

Naam, The2724 West 4th Avenue, Vancouver
the place is always packed!
Submitted Saturday, April 5, 2008 - 3:40pm [Dine in]

I've visited Naam a few times now. First time we waited 30-40min, second I went around 2am and the restaurant was still very full (they're open 24 hours). I've tried the Buhda's Feast, Crying Tiger, and Thai Noodles and they are all delicious. My friend tried one of the pizzas and it looked amazing the whole table was envious. The portions are huge so for $12 it was like getting two meals for the price I love the rich "healthy" flavours and the variety of veggies they use. People who love the traditional fatty high-salt/sugar foods will not like Naam, but health-conscious Vancouverites, especially those who are vegetarian will like it a lot.

John B. Neighbourhood Pub, The1000 Austin Ave., Coquitlam
not very modern, but okay for pub food
Submitted Saturday, April 5, 2008 - 3:22pm [Dine in]

I got the cajun salmon burger and my friend got a rib burger. He ordered yam fries but they gave him french fries (we didn't find out until we arrived home with the takeout). The burger was huge, but I had to take out the onion rings and pickles and then it was rather delicious, not amazing though. My friend thought his burger was "messy". We got takeout because the pub seemed a bit old and not that comfortable to sit in even thought the waitress was extremely friendly. I prefer a more modern, cleaner-feel environment for dining.

Yummy food - diner style
Submitted Sunday, November 18, 2007 - 8:00pm [Dine in]

I've been to quite a few diners, and Sophie's definitely beats them all. I also agree with the other reviewers who think Sophie's is 10X better than iHOP, and I'd like to add Denny's to that list. I've eaten at Sophie's with friends quite a few times now, and most things I've ordered have been delicious (chicken burger, oyster burger, pasta, deep fried potatos, etc.) The service can be good or mediocre depending on the waiter/waitress, but it's generally acceptable. If you are in the mood for cheap, big-portioned, tasty diner food, this is the place to go.

I didn't think a Japanese restaurant could be this bad
Submitted Sunday, November 18, 2007 - 7:38pm [Dine in]

My dad and I went there for an all-you-can-eat lunch because we enjoy trying random restaurants from time to time. This was a huge mistake. Almost everything we ordered didn't taste very good. I don't know how else to describe it, but I agree with one reviewer below who says the mall food court beats this restaurant. The waitress looked angry and she was unfriendly (maybe she hated her job). The restaurant didn't make any effort to make itself look like a place that served Japanese food either. What a gross experience!

Really delicious food
Submitted Sunday, November 18, 2007 - 7:28pm [Dine in]

I went with five other friends on a week night, and the restaurant was pretty empty. Each of us ordered different things. I had the veggie lasagna and it was amazingly delicious. My friends ordered steak, souvlaki, chicken burger, pizza, and meat lasagna; and most of them were extremely impressed with the food. The only disappointments were the pizza and the garlic bread. We did have to wait really long for the food to arrive that night, and I think it was because it was they were short-staffed. I would definitely go back.

High quality food and fresh ingredients
Submitted Sunday, November 18, 2007 - 7:21pm [Dine in]

I'm not sure why there are so many negative reviews below. This is now a full service restaurant, not cafeteria-style. The restaurant is well-decorated for a nice dining experience. The waiter was quick and friendly, and the food was of good quality and very tasty. My friend had the garlic chicken pizza which he said was amazing. I had the shrimp pesto penne, and it was delicious and made with fresh ingredients. The food was served on large, nice plates as well. I will definitely go back.
