Bad food, OK service
Submitted Tuesday, May 29, 2012 - 7:53pm [Dine in]

Went there with my husband when we were in the area. Heard a lot about it from friends and decided to give it a try.

The first impression was nice: decor is modern and menu looked interesting enough. Surprised how cheap it was.

We ordered gomae and a few specialty rolls.

Gomae was disgusting: sauce was way too sweet, it almost seemed like they put too much salt into it and added sugar to balance. And it was watery, not creamy. And the spinach itself was very watery. Plus the whole thing was mixed, as in spinach was not placed in a neat bunch with sauce around like normal, instead it was all mixed in a bunch of saucy goo. Didn't finish it... What a waste.

The rolls were ok. Too big to eat comfortably, mostly filled with cucumber with either ranch dressing or mayo. Why? Sushi doesn't need ranch dressing, not inside a roll... Too many ingredients in each roll were confusing and at the end we realized that even though we ordered two different things, both tasted the same because of the above mentioned cucumber with dressing.

So yeah, never again.

Best Sushi Place in Burnaby

I can't believe this awesome place got such low star rating based on price. You certainly get what you pay for at this place and it's worth every penny!

The food is always fresh and very good. They add just enough rice to balance the main ingredients, that's why the rolls are not "huge" like in cheap places, but are normal in size, instead of giving you a huge roll full of rice and cucumber and little fish, you get a proper roll with lots of fish and veggies. Speaking of the fish, always fresh and looks and tastes just perfect.

Servers and Cheffs are super friendly, we always feel welcome.

Yes, we are regulars. Since moving to Burnaby from Vancouver a year ago, we missed our good quality sushi place in Kits and none of the other nearby joints worked, even though they are cheap and busy, their food sucks. This place is a lifesaver! Yes, you might pay "city" prices, we usually spend about $30 on dinner for two and we eat enough, but you also don't have to go to the city to get good food. It's at your doorstep! Great sushi in the suburbs!!!

So there you go: if you appreciate good food and don't mind spending an extra few dollars, try it and you won't be disappointed!

Oh and by the way, the cheap places we tried the food was really inferior and the bill was only $5 or so cheaper. Go figure!

Best Sushi in Vancouver!

We have been their loyal customers for over 4 years now and always have a great experience! The food is always very good, with best sashimi in town! And the rolls are amazing, you get a great variety, just the right amount of rice and always lots of delicious fillings!

The service is always great. The were nice to us when we first started going there, and have been wonderful ever since. The Shefs are friendly and welcoming!

When we go for sushi, we go out of our way to get to Temaki! Even when we choose between "higher-end" places, Temaki wins.
