A New Favourite

We were very impressed with the service and food. Immense flavour experience. The calamari was delicious and the lamb curry was just right for spices. We also enjoyed the chicken chettinaad. The chef came over after the meal and asked our impressions. You can feel their pride in their restaurant and for good reason. Hope they have every success!

Best avoided unless you like bone-in sushi
Submitted Monday, October 8, 2012 - 8:04pm [Take-out]

Ordered a number of sushi rolls and discovered a bone in two different pieces of Toro. Both bones were 1.5 cm long and the thickness of a round toothpick. We were surprised to find bones because the fish had a pasty consistancy, like it had been ground up. We were unable to finish the miso as it was too salty and had an odd flavour. Would not return. Would not reccomend unless you like your sushi bone-in.

After deciding on spending an evening with the Arts Club Theatres production of “It’s a Wonderful Life” we made reservations for dinner at the nearby Dockside Restaurant. After reading the reviews it seemed clear that the food was excellent, the service slow and if you tried to use a coupon you should expect trouble. Upon arriving we were escorted, as requested in the reservation, to our table by the window with a vista of downtown Vancouver bathed in a full moon. We placed the coupon on the table, in plain view. And then we enjoyed attentive and timely service as we devoured a wonderful appetizer of Tiger Prawns followed by a moist, delicious Wild Halibut and for desert we shared Crème Brule and the cheesecake, all without incident. The coupon was whisked away with decorum and we left a healthy tip for the staff , all of whom had worked as a team to ensure we had a great dinner. From there we fairly waddled over, as we were stuffed, to a tear jerking performance at the theatre, all of which made for a very enjoyable evening on Granville Island. Thank you Dockside Restaurant for being a part of It.

Japan Sushi is a favourite of our family. The dishes are consistently top quality and the service is always friendly. The sashimi practically melts in your mouth and the Calamari rolls are wonderful. The bluesy background music above the friendly banter of the cooks and serving staff give it an ambience which makes it unique amid the masses of Sushi restaurants.
