Waiting, waiting, waiting...

Food is fine, not spectacular but decent. Sat down on a Sunday night with only a fewother people in the place and it took at least 10 minutes for someone to come by to take our order, spring rolls and wonton soup. Took at least 45 minutes to get our food! Soup shoud never take that long! And we got those little take away packets of plum sauce with our spring rolls, silly when you're sitting in for a meal.
And the fortune cookies were stale and gross. There are better places within two blocks and that's where we'll be heading next time.

nice surprise

Went here for my birthday with a small group. Sat in the pillow room, very cozy. Looked at the menu online before we went and was expecting greasy Greek-like food. Was very surprised at the tastey dishes we were served. A nice balance of herbs and spices with a variety of textures. Really impressed. Wait staff was accomidating without being overly friendly (hate wait staff that wants to be your best friend). Only complaint were the people we were seated next to. Weird woman in the party next to us that just stared and stared. We even said hi but no response. Kind of funny, actually. Beacause of the seating you can't really ignore the other people in the room. They (and you) are the view. Definitely going back for an outstanding meal. No wonder they've been on Broadway forever!

Waitress from hell

The first few times we went the place was empty but the servers were good and so was the food. last time we went it was the holidays and the place was packed. Food was good but late, that I can handle. The server, however, started yelling at me when I ordered something that I had been told in the past had no sugar in it and it came in this saucy maple glaze when it arrived. She was so angry I hadn't mentioned it before ordering but was still mad when I told her I had been there before and went through what I could and couldn't order with the previous staff memeber. I know she was stressed and busy but I thought I was ordering something I didn't have to worry about AND saving her time by not making her run back and forth. The manager intervened and I got a new order but she was really snotty with us for the rest of the evening. Not been back since. Nothing like bad service to ruin a restaurant.

You can't go home again.

Sushi Boy was the place I first tried sushi about ten years ago. I used to go a lot and enjoyed everything they made. I don't know if it's because I am a more experienced in the joys of sushi, if new management has changed the recipes or if eating at Toshi's has made all other sushi unbearable, but I did not enjoy my last visit there. Yes, there is more seating but the rolls were mostly rice, sunomono tates weird, service was slow. Alas, not the Sushi Boy of my youth! Maybe they were having a bad day, who knows. Would like to see more posts.

OMG, I've been 3 times to the amazing Figmint, enjoying many of the starters as well as the risotto and pasta dish on their dinner menu (as well as sampling the steak off friend's plates.) Always wonderful, with the most incredible balance of flavours and textures. Freshly made juices in the cocktails, superb desserts. Probably the best food in Vancouver right now.
Don't let the construction on Cambie disuade you from trying this place! The sound proofing on the windows is excellent and we actually had a lot of fun watching a tractor dig a big hole in the street while we ate :D
