A new favorite!
Submitted Thursday, January 7, 2010 - 12:44am [Dine in]

I have been meaning to go to this place for ages and I finally made it and man do I regret not going sooner! The food was amazing, every one was starving and barely anyone could finish their meals. Probably because we had the nachos first, which were more toppings then chips. The service was good enough for a busy saturday night and when the drinks came there were no complaints to be had. I will back there again soon, maybe tomorrow...

always happy here
Submitted Monday, November 30, 2009 - 3:52pm [Dine in]

Every time I go to The Whip I wonder why I don't visit more often! The food has always been fresh, tasty and prompt - maybe I've been lucky but I have never been here when any of my party have been disappointed with what they ordered. The drinks menu is varied and reasonably priced (for Vancouver at least!) and I love the fact that the art work is different every time I visit. The service is typical for East Van - you don't come here to be pampered!

I was impressed!
Submitted Monday, November 30, 2009 - 3:37pm [Dine in]

I had planned a birthday party a different location but when the reservations fell through I decided to send all of us to Crime Lab - I was pleasantly surprised! Our server was wonderful and very accommodating when we had extra people show up, the view and atmosphere was nicer then the average restaurant and the food and drinks surprised me. The cocktail list is huge and creative - we all had different drinks and all raved that we made the best choice. We also ordered their veggie and seafood platters to share and were amazed at how tasty the samplers were. We treated ourselves to the chocolate fondue and it was as expected, warm chocolate with a nice arrangement of fruit and cakes for dipping. Nothing to complain about at all!

tasty!
Submitted Tuesday, July 14, 2009 - 10:43am [Dine in]

I haven't been the The Locus in years and when I did I think it was always for drinks. My first time there for dinner was such a tasty surprise! Both my friend and I loved our meals (risotto and halibut sandwich), the portions were huge, the service was great, the place is beautiful, all in all a lovely evening out :)

Fast and Hot Delivery!
Submitted Sunday, February 1, 2009 - 9:44pm [Dine in]

I'm going to be eating leftovers all week - huge portions! The cashew chicken and ginger beef were very tasty, just spicy enough for me. The rice noodles weren't anything special but the veggies were cooked perfectly and the spring rolls were pretty standard. For a fast and hot delivery it was pretty impressive, I would order it again and will try out some curry next time!

Tasty
Submitted Tuesday, October 28, 2008 - 3:05pm [Dine in]

There is nothing about this restaurant to particularly rave about but also nothing bad to say either. I've been here a couple times this year and every time the service has been good (although my last waitress admitted to not having tried a number of the dishes, she was not useful for helping make decisions), the prices are what you would expect and the ambiance is really quite nice. The food is tasty, not the best Italian in the city, but not the worst, and one of the better options for Commercial Drive. The portions are huge, we all left with lunch covered for the next day. I have never tried the entrees but the pasta is a thumbs up so far.

Just Ok
Submitted Wednesday, October 1, 2008 - 3:30pm [Dine in]

I have been searching Vancouver for a great wings spot for awhile without success and the reviews on this site encouraged me to venture a bit further out then normal. Well the wings are now 29 cents each, still a decent deal but no better then a lot of places downtown. Taste wise they were not the best I've had, really just ok with your typical falvors. The service was fast and friendly - between that and the clientele I really did feel like I was in a small town pub. Looks like they have good deals on sandwiches and burgers but it is going to take a lot more then that to get me on the bus back out there.

Never disappoints!
Submitted Wednesday, October 1, 2008 - 3:23pm [Dine in]

I have been going to this place regularly for a couple years now and have never been disappointed. All the meals I've tried from the mousaka to the stuffed kalamari (my favorite) have been great, huge portions and never have I taken someone there who was not happy with their meal/snacks/drinks. There is always a drink special on and on the weekends they usually have a band in and a belly dancer performing around the tables. I never hesitate to recommend it to anyone.

It really is comfort food
Submitted Wednesday, October 1, 2008 - 3:15pm [Dine in]

Went to Burgoo last night very curious as to what this 'comfort food' was all about and was impressed by the menu. It didn't seem overpriced and the food did look and smell great. My Irish stew was very tasty and the portion so big that I am going to be eating leftovers for lunch for a day or 2. The ambiance was a bit odd - the look of the place, the sign, the name or the menu don't really match up with each other but it's still all good, just seems a bit odd. The service was slow for drinks, I sat alone for 5 minutes without anyone offering me even water, but the food was served hot and fast. And any place with a large patio and decent beer gets a gold star in my book!

Boring!
Submitted Wednesday, August 6, 2008 - 3:43pm [Dine in]

What a way to make a boring date worse then end up at this place! I was just there for drinks so the food rating reflects those but everything about the place was so bland I'm not interested in going back to try out the menu.

It was a weekend, 9pm on the Drive and the place was almost empty which seemed odd. The drinks I had (recommended to me by the staff) were uninteresting, staff were more interested in chatting with their friends then serving us, waitress was wearing what looked to be dollar store flip flops... I don't expect waitresses to be putting on a show or anything but there is such a think as too casual.

The music was awful, almost like an easy listening radio station, no wonder no one was there, I could barely stand it! As for the decor - the garage doors were nice, provided a good breeze on a summer night, made the middle of the bar feel like a patio, and the bar itself looked decent but everything else brought it down so much that I can't give it a higher rating.

I also have to ask: what's with the awful advertisement on the radio - painful!

impressed!
Submitted Monday, July 21, 2008 - 3:10pm [Dine in]

I stopped in to Kam's with some family from out of town for lunch today and was very impressed. The lunch specials are so cheap - soup, salad (which is just a side of iceberg lettuce - not as impressive) rice and large amount of a main dish for under $7. The ginger pork and bean/chicken dishes had great flavor, the green curry with veggies was decent. The service was good, decor was nice, quiet and cool inside, all in all a great place to duck in to for lunch. I don't think you can order a combo meal from A&W for the same price!

Pleasantly Surprised
Submitted Thursday, June 19, 2008 - 3:28pm [Dine in]

Went for lunch today and after seeing some of the reviews was worried about what I was in for but was pleasantly surprised. The lunch specials were very reasonably priced and my green curry was tasty, lots of chicken and bamboo. My friend is a vegetarian so asked the waitress to make a suggestion for him and she was able to immediately pick something out which he enjoyed very much. Maybe dinner service is different but our service was very fast and very solid, no complaints across the board.

Best Beer in the City
Submitted Tuesday, May 13, 2008 - 5:14pm [Dine in]

Stella's has the best beer in the city hand's down. The beer menu is fantastic, lots of variety and a lot of bottles that you can't find anywhere else. The staff are amazing, every time I can't decide what to order I describe what I might feel like (light carbonation, fruity, dark, etc) and get the perfect drink every time. I also ask for food suggestions and once again, perfect recommendations. The mussels, mushrooms, salad, even dessert, were all perfect. I used to think the place was pricey but I now know that it's worth it every time!

Boring
Submitted Thursday, May 8, 2008 - 5:43pm [Dine in]

Should have read the reviews before going to Bellagio for lunch today. Sure the service is ok, the music choice is odd but the decor is fine, the menu is trying to be Italian but then there are sandwiches, burgers, fish and chips... the place seems like it is a bit confused. All that would be acceptable if the food was any good but unfortunately that is not the case. I ordered the 'chef's pick' for the pasta and have had better rose sauce from an Olivieri package. It was served just barely warm so turned cold very quickly and the chicken had no flavor, could barely tell the difference between it and the penne. My friend had a sandwich that he said was 'ok', definitely nothing special and neither of the dishes were worth what we paid. With the menu and location I am sure the place does well enough with the tourists but I cannot see why anyone would go there twice.

Great addition to The Drive
Submitted Wednesday, May 7, 2008 - 3:18pm [Dine in]

Was so happy to see The Reef coming to my neighborhood! I went a couple weeks after it opened and was so impressed. It was completely packed by 8pm on a Saturday, we had to wait about 20 minutes for a table, even the bar was full. Standing in the door way watching everyone eat wasn't fun but not their fault they're so popular. Once seated service was fast and friendly. I had the special of the night, halibut with jalapeƱo and crab salsa, amazing. My friend had the mahi-mahi and also loved it, even the veggies and rice were something to rave about. The sangria was tasty and only $15 a pitcher. Would love to recommend it to everyone but want to be able to get a table faster next time I go!

best Italian in town
Submitted Wednesday, May 7, 2008 - 2:39pm [Dine in]

Out of all the places I've tried in town this one is my favorite for lunch and favorite Italian. The decor and the service aren't anything special, it seems like just a simple cafe with usually only one server with is never adequate for the lunch rush. But the food is spectacular - both for taste and price. Go with a friend and split a pasta and panini so you don't have to choose between the two.
