My husband and I went there on our anniversary being desperately hungry for some Schnitzel and not being able to find a place that quite hit the spot.
We were very impressed that the Snitzel tasted like it did in our youth; crispy but not greasy. The many different varieties with different sauces and cheeses made it possible for us to personalise the Schnitzel to our own taste.
The service was a little slow; thankfully I had read the reviews here before and kind of expected it. The waitresses aren't very friendly, but not rude or anything--if you can look passed that and focus on the delicious food..
In Short, if you're there for the Schnitzel I don't think you're going to find a better place in the lower mainland. If you're looking for a "dining experience" go to Earl's or some other generic made to impress establishment
Denny's is the place to go if you want grease soaked, american mass produced breakfast products...but sometimes, that's exactly what you're looking for!
I especially liked their "cappucino" that was covered with whipping cream substitute
Didn't realise there was a little De Dutch just across the street. What impressed me is that they had many healthier options than their giant american big brand competition across the street. You can taste that the food was made with attention--not just greased thrown on the grill and on the plate.
The staff was incredibly friendly, and even overheard my conversation regarding which bus to take--they happily helped me work out what bus to get where!
Ahhh, eighties.
The decor is truly from the eighties. The food is greasy and the portion sizes are big. The price is good.
Seniors abound.
Hubby and I frequent the joint if we're short and money and the oven broke down.
If you're looking for line cooked food, eloquently laid out and brought to your table by a career waiter, don't go here.
If you're however after a ridiculously tasty omellette (HOW DOES SHE DO IT?) and a friendly at-home atmosphere I would really recommend the candlestick.
The ambience is cozy, and by "cozy" I mean small. There's doilies on the tables and puppet parrots hanging from the roof. The kitchen is completely open and you can see and smell the food being made.
The menu choices are unique and lean towards the healthier (NOT LESS TASTY!!) side. I would really recommend the pan-fried vegetables and the omelletes (avocado, peppers and cheese..)
In conclusion, to draw an analogy, if you're tired of the over-used hollywood formula for a mainstream restaurant, come try out this independent. You'll leave pleasantly refreshed.
I remember the experience being a bit underwhelming.
The staff seemed a bit---and I can hear it reverberated through the other reviews---stand-offish. I chucked that down to our jeans and open toed shoes, perhaps not fitting into the cliche??
We ended up being left alone for most of the night and enjoyed our Key Lime Pie.
I've had better.
One word: Lattes. If you're looking for a good qaulity cup of coffee (Don't we all?) you must try Brazza.
My hubby is a coffee coneseur (sp?) and he takes my son for a walk and comes back with coffee breath.
The also have calorie-conscious, lactose-conscious ice cream flavours that would satisfy those of us that can't do without the calories but without the calories.
Everything here is high-qaulity and tasty. It will fit a wide spectrum of taste (panini's, ice creams, delicious coffee) but it's a bit pricier than your average coffee shop.
Yes it's a White Spot. You know what to expect regarding food and ambience but I must give this location extra points for their wonderful serve staff.
I live closer to the Lonsdale location and pass right down there on my way to the Park and Tilford location because of the service. Everytime I've been there, the waiters have been incredibly accomodating to a busy 18 month old. They go the extra mile to play peekaboo eventhough they were incredibly busy at the time---and even bought me a whole bowl of extra lemons to stiffle my crazy pregnancy cravings.
I would recommend this restaurant.
One night after a particularly decadent party my friends insisted on going to the tomahawk as it was "the best place in North Vancouver for breakfast."
Upon arrival the knick-knacks seemed tacky and the place had a very old, run down vibe to it. Ever the optimist, I hoped that the food would have that "at home taste" because of the run by the family for years feel.
I was dissapointed. I agree with the previous reviewers that the food is very greasy. It's the perfect place for students to recover from the night before, but I wouldn't recommend it to family and non-party friends.
Another visit I came in, one of the parties in our group haven't arrived yet and they refused to seat us unless all people were present. I did not appreciate being told like naughty children we have to wait.
