I can't really rave about my experience at Fish Tales. It was a different dining experience. The building is an old house turned into a restaurant so it lacks any sort of ambiance. I could hear every word of a normal volume conversation of a table three away from us, if that helps clarify it for you. The menu selection was okay but the wine selection was poor. Our server must have been new, as he wasn't very efficient, but who's in a rush? I took my in-laws here and I believe they enjoyed the meal, which I would agree was good enough. Not my favorite restaurant experience.
I eat here often. Sometimes the food is incredible and then a week later, it tastes totally different and can be bland. Different chefs I suppose. The owner(Gary?) hangs out often and is a friendly guy. The restaurant has many classic car photos and the owner is big into the Father's day car show, which is probably why so many locals support the establishment. It's a unique menu from burgers(with curly fries!) to Indian to Mexican cuisine. I must say that the Mexican food is well done. The prices are fair and the food portions plentiful. I will continue coming here, but he really needs to establish more consistency with the taste of the food.
I have eaten sushi all over the island. This may be my current favorite since the Sushi Mura in QB has closed. The sushi variety was plentiful and the service was excellent. I didn't have a chance to look around the restaurant much, but the waiting area was decorated like your typical sushi restaurant. The parking lot is easy to get in and out of. I gorged on the takeout sushi and loved every piece. Such good unagi. I highly recommend it.
This sushi restaurant is north of Parksville, in French Creek. It is well worth the visit. They have excellent, fresh sushi that was served to me with a smile. When I came into pick up my order, the chef smiled at me and asked me how I was doing. I really like when the busy chef goes out of his way to be friendly to his customers. Certainly this friendly demeanor was reflected in the sushi preparation. It was just delicious. I will be back!
I love the Rod and Gun. Hands down, one of the best seafood chowders I have ever eaten. Every time I roll through Parksville, I make an excuse to have lunch here. I almost always get the same great server(I think she is French) and I really enjoy the service I get. The food specials change all of the time. The last time I ate a delicious fish sandwich that was incredible. No wonder this place is the most popular pub in town!
I find the food to be exciting and very fresh at both Lefty's locations(the other is in Qualicum Beach). They have a great selection of different items and the commitment to using fresh and local products really comes through in the taste of the food. It is excellent all around.
The burgers we ordered were really bad. They were dripping of grease and lacked any flavor. My side of onion rings was huge though, but again, so greasy. The french fries weren't completely cooked either. Ugh. I hate to be negative about things but it was really a bad experience. The atmosphere was interesting. A fifties diner with Hollywood stars on the walls. The service was excellent, as the server was very personable and cheerful.
I have been here a couple of times based on my father in law's recommendation, and I have been pleased both times. The food was solid, but a bit pricey and the beer was great. It was also packed downstairs in the pub area with people of all ages. A great place to hangout after work.
I found my meal to be excellent in taste and quality. The service was excellent and my food was received quickly. They had an excellent fish and peanut sauce. The noodles were cooked perfectly and the spring rolls were so tasty. If I had one complaint, it would be that the salad roll is just one roll cut into two. Most other places give you two rolls of the same size as the one I received. However, it was fresh and delicious. Excited to try the other dishes on the menu now.
I love this place. I have driven past the sign on the highway several times, and one day I decided to take a trip out there. Both my visitor and I were impressed by the pub and the service. We were able to get a table outside(it was packed!) and the gardens were lovely and well tended. It was so unexpectedly pleasant that I would highly recommend visiting the pub to anyone who wants an extraordinary pub experience.
I have eaten here a handful of times over the year, and I find it to be acceptable sushi, but definitely nothing to write home about. The service and food prep are efficient. The price is fine, but the portions aren't massive. If I was in the area, I would grab sushi from there, but I would never go out of my way for it. Everything is just average, on par with what I can make at home.
I enjoy dining here on the run as the food is fresh and it has an appeal over the typical sub joint places that are everywhere in the area. The menu is large with many healthy options to choose from. The ordering and creation of your food are both quick and well done. I usually don't sit and eat in there, but the restaurant is clean and inviting.
The service and deli counter are fine, but this store is run down and old. The other QF stores are so much bigger and better. I am not sure how they will fair against the competition(Country Grocer, Save On, Thriftys) unless they do some major upgrades.
Parking is terrible in busy times and the clientele are very "blue collar" if you will...
The Keg is a higher scale eatery chain across Canada and the US, and this location is no different. The food and service were very good, like they always deliver. The restaurant itself was well decorated, clean and comfortable. The value for the food is alright. It's expensive, but steak meals generally are. The steaks themselves were not the best I have ever had, but they were better than average. Still, I am not sure it is a place that I would recommend to visitors. There are nicer places around the area that are of a better value.
I always get great service here and so does my wife. The food is excellent, what more can you really say? I always recommend the butternut squash ravioli with prawns. It is one of the finest pasta dishes i have eaten in my life. The atmosphere is hip and cool, and the servers too. It is a bit pricey, but its worth it to treat yourself to high quality food that stands out among the rest.
It was my first time ordering from here as I drive past it on my daily commute. The restaurant had ample parking and the interior was fresh, clean and inviting. The menu itself had many different items, but I was only after the rolls. They had a great selection and the rolls I ate, Dragon, BC Roll and Dynamite, were good. It wasn't the best sushi I have ever had, but it was tasty enough to warrant a future visit!
I liked the chicken more than the pizza. It had a great original spice flavor to it. The pizza was sort of boring, but it wasn't greasy, which I appreciated greatly. It was just not that exciting. My suggestion would be to order the chicken from here and your stomach will thank you.
This is a great place for coffee or a light lunch. They have excellent selections of homemade goodies for everyone. Chocolates made right there, many different breads and baked items, plus some international groceries. I was happy with my visit and I know where I am going to be buying my bread from now on!
I recently moved to the area, and after reading the reviews, decided to give this restaurant a try. The order was taken quickly and efficiently and my food was ready when they said it would be. The restaurant appeared to be nice and there were many people dining when I picked up my food. The food was rich and delicious. The portions were large and the price was rice. Two of the staff(perhaps the owner) went out of their way to welcome me to the area and asked if I needed any extra cutlery as I may not have been completely unpacked yet. lol. I thought that was great and I will be a repeat customer for sure.
I ordered after reading great reviews and chose a selection of rolls. I ordered the cali, spicy cali, unagi and smoked salmon roll. I would say that they were all fairly mediocre, but adequate. I wouldn't give it a bad review, but I couldn't go as far as to recommend it to a friend. It was fine enough, but definitely not worth repeat business. I am going to try some of the other places in town to see what else is out here.
