Bombay Bhel4266 Hastings St., Burnaby
Thursday Night Dinner Club
Submitted Thursday, December 10, 2009 - 1:37pm [Dine in]

Everty Thursday, my wife and I join another couple for a dinner date. Bombay Bhel was the first restaurant we visited. We were greeted by who I assume is the owner, since he asked us how we found out about the place and if we had heard his recent ad campaign. He also spent much of his time at our table staring at my wife's breasts. Nonetheless, the food was terrific. Serving sizes were more than ample, and we all rated the various dishes as above average. The service did leave something to be desired. As our table was being cleared (with plenty of leftovers for a doggy-bag), the waitress stuck her thumb into the leftover dishes, which was rather unappealing. The ambience was also sub-par; a potted plant fell over during our dinner, and there was little to suggest India in the decor. The flavourful food made up for most of that, however.

A long, steady downward trajectory has finally hit bottom.

I used to love this place when it was Craig's Cafe. I noticed a slight drop in food quality when it became Into The FIre. In it's latest incarnation as Jimoco, the bottom has fallen out. Service has been consistently poor, so I cannot chalk it up to "a bad day
". Today was the last straw. It took an hour and a half to get our breakfasts. The table next to us was still waiting when we left. Another nearby table had one dish served, which was finished by the time the next one came, which was half done by the time the final dish made it to the table. This is not the first time I have been at Jimoco and witnessed such problems, but they were far more glaring than previously. For the first time in my life, I left no tip. Our waitress was trying to make the best of the situation, but she got no support from the incompetent second server, and was pretty much doing everything as well as fixing up the other server's issues.

I will now be searching for a new breakfast joint.
