DOV 2009
Submitted Sunday, January 25, 2009 - 6:13pm [Dine in]

Four of us arrived minutes past our 8pm reservation time and were met by a smiling hostess and immediately seated. The $18. DOV price belies just how wonderful the food is at this restaurant. The portion sizes appeared to be the same as regular menu items. Between the four of us, we tried the three entree choices and the two desserts. They were all very well prepared, and wonderfully presented. The service was very attentive, and although not really quick, certainly appropriate for the meal. It's a very cozy spot offering incredible value. Our visit simply solidifies our appreciation for this small chain. We will definitely return to enjoy it again.

This was fun!

Dined with a party of 11. The service was very attentive and the food (we ordered 10 mains, and three appies between us) was without exception, very good. It was enjoyable being with a larger group which allowed us to sample many more of the dishes than as a couple. They have a decent beverage list, and the prices are reasonable.
It is an "off the beaten track" location and considerably quiter than the majority of Oriental restaurants we've eaten at.
We would definitely return.

A terrific find!

This is one of those really graet neighbourhood finds that is well hidden and does require finding. The food is varied, and everything we have tried is very acceptable. They do seem to be able to produce seafood dishes that are tasty; ribs that are succulent and the service is always very smooth with a yound wait staff that seems to enjoy being at work.l Wine list is quite OK and the prices are some of the best in the Metro Vancouver area.

Incredibly poor value!

This place must be closing soon. It's hard to believe that a Howe Street icon has become so bad. $2.65 for a cup of Maxwell House, c'mon. $11.65 for a spanokopita that arrived in 70 seconds from ordering, barely warm, and when it had been cooked: overcooked and blackened. The chicken pita served in a tortilla crammed into a cereal bowl. $30.00 for an absolutely horrid lunch, and no alcohol. Boo!!

It's eclectic, for sure!

This was our first visit and we were pleasantly surprised. It's a very noisy spot, but once you can overcome the volume, it's settles into a nice atmosphere. Our server was a delight although she became a little invisible as the night wore on. It took several attempts to get our check. The furnishings are all over the place and I suppose that's part of the charm. Food - burgers and fries really good; lamb well done although a small dish, and the goat cheese stuffed, bacon wrapped prawns with the pumpkin risotto was the hit. Decent wine list, but up there price wise. A solid visit.

It's a shame!

A Saturday evening after a hailstorm and perhaps that's why the large party had not left. A very noisy beginning to our experience. The restaurant is long and narrow and tables are close together. Not easy to manouever when heavy coats, etc. are on the banquettes. The service was somewhat indifferent and a little offputting. The wine list, while interesting was quite pricey. The food was quite fabulous. Ceasar salad was terrific; grilled portabello was beautifully presented and very tasty; and, the stuffed chicken was fabulous. Overall we would have hoped that this food was presented in a slightly more formal setting and that the furniture and cleanliness of the room reflected the wonderful work in the kitchen. We won't likely return.
