Dim Sum is OK
Submitted Saturday, October 6, 2007 - 12:03pm [Dine in]

Whenever I go to this place, it's always for Dim Sum - the place is usually quite full, which is a good sign. I've found the dim sum to be quite fresh and moist. The Ha Gau and Su Mai are decent and the baby octopus is quite nice. While the service isn't stellar, it's on par for most dim sum places. It's a good choice for dim sum if you're already in the area.

Authentic Malaysian Chicken Curry
Submitted Wednesday, October 3, 2007 - 10:13pm [Dine in]

Whenever I have a chicken curry fix and want to remember Malaysia, I go to Seri for the Curry Chicken and a Roti Canai. The Roti Canai is flaky on the outside and moist on the inside, just like it should. The accompanying sauce is also very good. For the price, the curry chicken is very good. It has a nice aroma and has the right amount of spiciness and complexity. However, on the weekends, the owner does seem a little over-stretched and short-staffed.

Don't try the Gado Gado
Submitted Wednesday, October 3, 2007 - 10:07pm [Dine in]

I don't know what they were serving but the Gado Gado was gross. It was takeout, but it wasn't fit for a dog. The best gado gado I ever had was from the island of Borneo. What I had from banana leaf was a poor poor imitation. It was a sloppy, flavourless mess.

Chicken Breast Burger is worth the wait
Submitted Wednesday, October 3, 2007 - 9:58pm [Dine in]

I agree with some of the posts here... the service could be a little more attentive, could be a little quicker, etc... If you want quick turnover, go to McDonalds down the street. This place is for those looking for a nice solid meal and are looking for a relaxed atmosphere - sorry no gourmet fries or gourmet Grey Poupon mustard here. Their chicken breast burger is very good - charred and hot. I always go for the chicken burger when I'm there. I have the impression that these guys want to do a nice simple menu right and if you have to wait a little, well, then tough.

Overall, not a bad choice...
Submitted Tuesday, October 2, 2007 - 11:16pm [Dine in]

I like to have people from the country cook the food. I don't like Japanese restaurants owned by Koreans, Mexican restaurants run by Arabs, etc... I've travelled to Indonesia and Malaysia and thought the food was quite good, but the restaurant is owned by dudes from Hong Kong. Hong Kong is not Malaysia, not even close. The decor looks a little weird but it's the food that matters.

Good simple honest Pizza
Submitted Tuesday, October 2, 2007 - 7:56pm [Dine in]

My wife loved the simple pizza with a little mozarella, tomato sauce and fresh basil. The crust is deep and tasty. The pizza joint for a take out in Deep Cove. As others have mentioned, I wouldn't necessarily do a sit down, but for take out it's a winner.

I like the Fish & Chips
Submitted Tuesday, October 2, 2007 - 7:53pm [Dine in]

Contrary to many other opinions, I think the fish and chips aren't overly greasy - c'mon it's deep fried. If you want "not greasy", get a salad... Crab cakes are the best on the north shore. Their new location isn't as quaint as their old location. It might be newer, but it looks more sterile.

Great Soups/Great Choice
Submitted Tuesday, October 2, 2007 - 1:16am [Dine in]

I was very impressed with soups at this location. I've been there twice and my wife had something other than soups. We've both been very happy with the food. Brunch was excellent. As well, it has a kind of ecclectic, international decor. I would recommend this to anyone who is looking for hearty, homey food.

Best Desi-style Chinese Food for the Buck!
Submitted Tuesday, October 2, 2007 - 1:04am [Dine in]

One of my favourites in the City. I don't really care about decor. If the food isn't good or if portions are skimpy, I couldn't care less how pretty the place is. As others have mentioned, if you're bored of Chinese food, indian spices really infuse a cool twist to this overly familiar style of cuisine. The fried rice dishes are amazing and plentiful. Make sure you ask the servers you want the meat dishes stir fried, not deep fried. If you spend 40 bucks for two people, I guarantee you will have leftovers for at least a couple of days. Peter doesn't skimp on the portions! The vegetarian dishes are also good.

Caribbean food for people who don't know Caribbean food
Submitted Tuesday, October 2, 2007 - 12:46am [Dine in]

Bland, Bland, Bland was all I could say about the food at this place. I had the chicken curry. The only thing which was exceptional was the desert they served which was a kind of milky pudding which was custom made. I love Caribbean food but will give this restaurant a pass - you should too.

Jerk Chicken/Curry not up to par
Submitted Tuesday, October 2, 2007 - 12:41am [Dine in]

I used to live in a Toronto neighbourhood with lots of Jamaicans and caribbean restaurants. When I moved here I was so happy to see a Jamaican restaurant on Commercial. Both times I have gone, I have been disappointed by the food. The jerk chicken had BBQ sauce on it! - a definite no no. The goat curry was pretty bland as well. Maybe I just hit a bad patch at the restaurant. I had better Jamaican food outside of Nelson, BC.
