Large group Dinner
Submitted Wednesday, January 13, 2010 - 11:04pm [Dine in]

Food was OK, but french fries with a $34 Steak? And a mandatory tub of Ketchup with it, I almost wanted to throw them a curve ball, and ask for HP Sauce instead! Steak was very fatty, Crab Cakes for Appetizer where all right, but very fishy tasting, and the sauce served with them tasted like it had half a kilo of salt in it. Servers were Attentive, but very obtrusive in their garish pinkish shirts. Large groups of people kept wandering in (From the Casino maybe?) and staring at us. I am glad I was not paying. Setting was a bit too open for my liking, and the noise of plates and clattering of pans from the nearby kitchen was very annoying. I am glad I wasn't paying. If you wish similar styled food, better quality and service, at a much better price, try Lava Dining Lounge in Maple Ridge, at least there they pour the wine for you all the time! Only giving Solid service as the waiting on my water glass to be filled was only 3 minutes.

Not just a pub
Submitted Tuesday, September 29, 2009 - 1:15am [Dine in]

Pub food is pretty darned good, but the dinners are over the top filling, and fantastic for the price! A great place to go close to home, menus r under the table, literally, the old place was good, the new place even better! Please ignore the overall rating, this is a Pub, don't expect grandoise service, fantastic heart stopping food, but the price, the local, the taste, for a Pub, is Pretty darned great!

Great place, best butter chicken going! Buffet is amazing! Have been there numerous times, but the last time, I had some certificates for meals, and they refused to accept them! They stated they were not for the bufffet (Not stated in the numerous disclaimers on the certificates) waitress was rude that time, as she stated I should have mentioned the certificates when I entered (I did, and they said no problem!) but alas, after stuffing my face, and my friend and wife had finished, all was good, food is fantastic, be carefull not to light the place on fire with the heat candles under the food (DAMHIKT) enjoy yourself......good food barring other issues!2

Back in 99, this place was amazing! Natasha ran the place, if she knew you, no reservations were needed, the food was fantastic, service was amazing, wine was incredible, then the years went by, kids took it over, lunch menu went down the tube, dinner was pathetic......service was better at mcdonalds, stay away from this place, much better spots around......I feel bad for them, as they used to be amazing, but are now sub-standard at amazingly high prices.......I much rather hit the pub next door for decent food.

In '92, I worked across the street from Mr. Hos place, whenever I walked in, after a few weeks, the servers always looked at me and asked me if I wanted My favourite dish! 95 I moved on, 98 or so I found them in Coquitlam, off North Road, I walked in, the first question asked was "Chicken with black bean sauce on rice?" I was floored, they remembered me......years go by, She Who Must Be Obeyed (The Wife unit) is working in Burnaby, and she tells me about this great Chinese Place on Kingsway.....we go there, I peed myself laughing, it was Mr. Hos'! I walked in (Guess what I was wanting to order?!) Yes, service was a bit slow, food was great, but at the till I mentioned I was a regular for 2 years at their old old location, mentioned that I used to wear a shirt and tie, and the hair was shorter then, and the big smile came up......they remembered me! To far away now to go back often, but a darned good place to eat! I miss those folks much!

Great food, great people

Since the dawn of time (Or about 1 year after opening) My Family, and friends have been going to this glorious place. The owners are wonderful, hugs not withstanding, the food is great, service is what you need, if you want a belly busting fire inside, ask for it, otherwise hot is tamed for the westerners, but if you ask for heat, you will surely get it! good food for the price, cheesecakes are to die for, The kids who were so young once (The place is named for their initials) are grown up now but the owners have never stopped providing good food! My Niece will never forget the youghurt/cucumber sauce they kept plowing onto the table when she was 4, and drinking it like a milk shake, and we never saw it ever on the bill............Joginder , you are great , your wife, is the same, but she always changes her name whenever I am there, keep it the same, her face is forever in my memory! She should not change it to satiate the white man, she is wonderfull enough as it is!.............keep up the great work!

Wondering also about the cat pee comment...... :-( Great food, fantastic service, Tuna Tataki is the best EVER! Great place to go, better than most in MR. They do a better job all around than others, exceptional at some things, could do with a revamp/cleaning of facilities, but hey, price is right, smiles are adorable (I recall seeing a server eating there with her son, the kid was in 7th heaven, and bloody adorable to boot!) Prices are great, the servers remember you (the wife loves a special noodle soup, mentioned it once, next time we were there, a different server mentioned they would do it special, now that is service!) We keep going back, and have not gone to any other Sushi place for a long time as they are so consistent! Slow down when entering the parking lot, as the ridges in the gravel reach up and get you!

A blast from the past, with modern and pretentious servers, food was good, even though my wife did not get what she had ordered (After waiting for 1 hour), and ended up in an argument with the server who was adamant he had not made a mistake as he has been doing his job for many years. (He should work for Chevrolet).............the place reminded me of someone going to the Brady Bunches house for dinner, and half the light bulbs were blown out in the dining room, Alice was on strike, the butcher was on crack and serving the meal. Please, do not use this place as a measure for dining in Maple Ridge. Order Gravy with your fries at A&W, at least you will get what you were expecting.

Love it!

When the urge comes to beat the gas taxes, and the belly is empty, She Who Must Be Obeyed (SWMBO for Short) and I make the arduous trek out to Mission to hit Rockos...... (Arduous as in, we are hungry, in Maple Ridge, and they are in Mission!) All the servers smile through the sheen of sweat from racing around delivering huge amounts of gloriously filling and severely unhealthy food to the awaiting masses. The place is filled with 50's signage (my fav is "Unattended children will be sold as slaves" Sit down, smile, order, eat, smile, waddle over to the till to pay, waddle out to car, leave. Still wondering who the heck is Dale who deserves his own seat.......one day, he'll be there, and I'll ask, until then, I'll just eat the grub, fork over the tip (Well deserved as they are always busy and boy do they work hard!) Smile and drive away. (BTW, the older lady who serves (She's around 27 ish not one the young gals around 19), loves to give it back to you if you whine and complain about no Coke only Pepsi, a welcome oasis in a desert of capitulation........

Roccos in Maple Ridge
Submitted Sunday, August 9, 2009 - 5:28pm [Dine in]

Want a breakfast to kill a hangover? Want honest staples at a good price? Don't feel like a chain store meal? Don't want to drive out to Mission to go to Roccos? Try the Log Cabin! Quaint little hideaway, hardworking friendly staff, grub that will fill you, no parking issues, the smell of cedar from Harolds' mill next door after a quiet drive down a pleasant road (256th) makes you want to keep coming back! The wife and I love this place as a spot to go and get unpretentious hearty food on a weekend morning. Most of the folks who go there are mill workers, prison staff and you don't want to upset them, and they don't! If you go their on a Sunday, Breakfast is all day, and don't expect too want dinner after! Favs are loggers breakfast, and eggs benny with a sauce that will clog your arteries from 50 feet, but you'll die happy! Try the corn chowder, wow....... Don't expect grandiose service, presentation, or much more than the odd smile when you get your food or coffee, but hey, it's filling, good, greasy, tasty, hearty, starchy grub to fill your gob with, at a great price! Also, Cell Service is spotty, so you can stuff your face without those annoying calls from work!

Great Food, Friendly service
Submitted Sunday, August 9, 2009 - 5:05pm [Dine in]

You can't say much else about Sagres without spending hours with a Thesarus. Down home cooking, service when you need it without hovering, you get a full plate, with fantastic hearty food. Great Value, very friendly owner and server. After a new manager started at my place of employment who is from Portugal, and being one who loves to try new food, I asked him one day what is Portugeuse food.....He replied "Meat, Fish, Chicken, Rice, Potatoes " . After going to Sagres a few times, I realized he was hiding the true meaning of Portugeuse cooking. Find a parking spot close to the door, as you will not be able to walk very far after eating their full plates of exceptional food!
Some of the favourite foods on the menu: Sole, Portugeuse steak (A heart stopping huge steak in a garlic/wine sauce, served in a massive bowl with potato slices and a fried egg) Portugeuse chicken (Paprika mixed with numerous other things that are combined to make chicken from elsewhere seem bland!) I was upset this weekend to find they were closed for two weeks, but realized that everyone needs a vacation, and after putting as much heart and soul into doing what they do, they deserve more than their allotted two weeks! A gem in little old Maple Ridge! (Make a reservation, it's hard to get a seat without one for obvious reasons)

Not what I was expecting in Maple Ridge
Submitted Sunday, August 9, 2009 - 4:50pm [Dine in]

After numerous bad reviews, then hearing it was under new management, the wife and I decided to try it out. At first, we felt a little under dressed as we were not expecting to walk into a place such as this, but the manager promptly made us feel at home. After settling down, and talking with the manager, listening to his honest recommendations, we were confronted with some of the most gloriously presented and delicious food we have ever tasted in the lower mainland. The service was beyond belief yet unobtrusive, The manager was very honest, friendly, and exceedingly attentive. The ambience was serene and quiet, with nice partitions between every two tables. Although it may not be permitted in this post, we did talk with other customers about their dishes (As at the table next to us, two ladies had ordered our other options) and were not surprised to hear they thought the same as we did about this fantastic dining experience. Expensive, yes, worth it, definitely! Wine was recommended by the manager, and was without any doubt, a perfect fit for our meal. The glow of the experience has lasted into the next day, and I cannot wait to return at the promise of a Goulash from the manager! Kudos to the staff, the manager, and the chef for such an outstanding dining experience in Maple Ridge!
