Myself and three others visited Saltaire on a Friday evening. This was my second visit to the restaurant, and the first try for everyone else in my party. The patio can be great on a sunny day or warm evening, as you get to overlook the water from West Vancouver.
The food is average, at best. There was nothing creative or unique about the menu. There was a lack of flavour from all the appetizer and main dishes we ordered. The salads were under-dressed, the mussels were chewy, and the pizzas were nothing great. I ordered the pork tenderloin for my main dish, and it was sadly dry/overcooked. A friend tried the seafood fettuccini, and was unimpressed with the lack of seafood in the dish. In addition to the flavourless food, portion-size was poor for the prices listed on the menu.
Finally, the service was disappointing. At various times, our server wouldn't come back to our table for 10+ minutes for the usual tasks (take order, drop-off drinks, pick up empty plates). The total duration of our visit for a 2-course dinner was just under two and a half hours, due to the wait times for our waitress.
This was probably my last visit to Saltaire. There are other great "westcoast" restaurants that blow away what Saltaire offers.
