The food was decent, our server was doing the best she could with what she had to work with but the ambiance was another thing. We were the only paying customers they had friends that were making so much noise that we couldn't even think. The premises like Charlie Don't Surf and the Sandpiper Pub is in great need of maintenance and repair. There were drapes that were tied together with a form of string instead of a sash, throw rugs were all frayed at the edges (lucky you didn't trip).
another place in White Rock that is in great need of maintenance and repair. We ordered baked clam chowder and fish and chips. You would think that being baked it would come out HOT! it was COLD and when we asked the server to have to heated it came back WARM. The fish and chips were also warm and when you bite into the fish, the fish would slide right out of the batter. Sure seemed they were more interested in pushing the booze.
We attended Charlie Don't Surf on a Wednesday afternoon, there was very few customers and there was lots of seating to choose from...our server decided to seat the 2 of us in a table that was really large enough for 1 person. We each ordered fish and chips (halibut), the order took some time to arrive (thought they had to go out and catch the fish) the pieces of fish were quite small and they served RE-HEATED FRIES. The premises also appeared to be in great need of maintenance and repair.
we attended Pepita's for lunch and is using a discount coupon from the Entertainment book. The value of the coupon in big bold numerals is $10...when we got to the restaurant the menu had 3 conditions attached to the coupon that were not mentioned in the Entertainment book. 1. beverages had to be bought with the entree, 2. certain seafood menu items were excluded and 3. the coupon was only valid for $6 with lunch not $10 as advertised.
Our server was pleasant, the food only mediocre -- never going back, I thought the idea of the Entertainment book was to introduce patrons to your establishment?
We agree with BK75 whole hearedly...we have tried them on about 3 occasions and each time it appears that they're doing you a favor by serving you. Don't go there if you're in a hurry. I can't say for absolute certain, but it would be reasonable to believe and a coincidence that after I paid for our meal with my credit card (last place used) it was reported to me that is was used elsewhere fraudulently. Never going back!
About spring of 2007 they advertised a crab special in the Richmond Review newspaper with no mention of take out or limits. We were regular patrons of this establishment, dining there on average of about 3 times per week for the previous 3 months when we attended the restaurant and wished to place an order for 2 crabs to take home to enjoy. The propietor/cook stated that there was a limit of 1 per customer and no take out! It didn't make a difference to him when we showed him the ad. He then said it was only a difference of $5 for a 2nd crab, so when we said only $5 then you pay the $5, he flatly refused and promptly dismissed us by returning to the kitchen. Needless to say, we have never been back!
Based on a minimum of 6 visits the premises, furniture and equipment are in a desire state of repair. For someone who is not literate in the Chinese language I got the feel of being treated like a 2nd class citizen. Though, this is the only known establishment with the push carts for dim sum, the selection is limited. The last straw was when the bill presented was higher than what was expected from the advertised prices for dim sum.
