Dao Shao Mian
Submitted Sunday, January 11, 2009 - 3:09am [Dine in]

Dao Shao Mian is a dish where the noodles are cut by knife off a big block and fall into the boiling water. you should try it at least once.

I had the tofu dao shao mian and my wife had the lamb both were good. I love their vermicelli and spinach in peanut sauce it is similar to goma-ae.

there is also a pan fried onion cake that is tasty

The best on Main
Submitted Sunday, January 11, 2009 - 2:38am [Dine in]

Very romantic setting with good wine and great food. Not a big menu but something for everyone including vegetarian and vegan too. I think this place is the best on Main. I will go back.

The price is more than fair for the quality.

I love it when a chef takes the time to add a vegetarin plate to the menu that has constructed to be delicious without meat. Too many chefs simply remove the meat and expect it to be good enough. GRUB is a place that made a vegetarian dish and a vegan dish... much respect to the chef. it was awesome.

My wife had the beef dish and said it too was great!

If you are into taste you will love GRUB

the cover was well worth it, great sound system and the dancing was great. spectacular queens with many stage show throughout the night. There are dancers above the bar and drinks were priced fair about 5 bucks ea give or take. the place was a fun mix of glbt & straight all dancing and celebrating together. fun for all.

I did not try the food but the lime and salt were good...SMILE!

I love this hot dog stand... I will pay to park just to eat here. how could a hot dog stand be so good??? there is something for everyone and the veggie dog taste like real food not plastic-ish.

My wife even had to admit that the dogs here are great and she is not a hot dog connoisseur as am I.

i had the pizza with wine
Submitted Tuesday, December 30, 2008 - 10:13pm [Dine in]

I know, with a menu like this why would you order pizza? Because I love pizza and this was the most expensive pizza I ever had but it was worth every penny.

I had the mushroom with caramelized onion and it was perfect.

My girlfriend (now my wife) brought me here as a treat and it was great.
the wine list is impressive.

my suggestion is dress up for this place and make a great memory.

ok, the place is beautiful... it may be the best build-out i have seen on main st. The food is better than expected and the service is great. everyone greets you when you show up and they all yell thank you and good bye when you leave.
here is my three complaints:
1. no napkins???
2. no tea or water to start you off.
3. here is the big one; the main courses do not arrive at the same time... so one person eats while the other awkwardly waits and then the roll are reversed where the other is done just about the time the other persons food arrives. this sucks the life and enjoyment out of a romantic evening.

my question; why spend so much effort on interior design and provide a poor dinning experience. When I choose to go out to eat WITH someone I expect the kitchen to time it so the food comes out at the same time or at least close to the same time.

I will go back one more time because the food is good and the people are nice. the Management needs to gain control of their kitchen.

if you are on a date, go to to another place but this place has HUGE sushi and the taste of the veggie rolls and yam rolls are good and the price is great. The service is fast due to the fact that they have 5 guys working and pre-making the top sellers. the line to order is smashed up against people who are eating in there shoe box sized dining area. I feel bad for the people who dine in during their rush hours.

this place is a solid little coffee shop with sweets and some real food as well, but once inside make your way to the back room it has huge tables and plenty of elbow room. the place is laid back and seems to welcome you weather you are a student pulling an all nighter or a motorcycle touring club, you will find this place friendly with room to remove gear without hurting bystanders.
Free internet and 24hours.

Worth a visit..Great with friends…very social

I miss the way it was years ago but Sean has done a great job with this place. You will not find a better pour on Guinness anywhere in Vancouver, Seattle, or Portland. I miss the soda bread from years past as well as the mixed root veggies; the new bread basket is a mix of what seems to be leftovers and i don't understand the curry dip. With a perfect Guinness pour you could get by with anything but the menu is not bad. Be sure to visit with friends and try a Guinness the way it was meant to be and you will end up making the Irish Heather a regular stop when you are in Gastown. Be sure to explore…There is more here than you will see with a quick glance.

My only complaint is the menu. If they would work on a quality translation of what they offer and maybe better and more pictures, I would eat here again. The food is good but you will have no idea what you are ordering and the staff and owner can not explain it in English. It is sad that a restaurant this size with a huge menu will miss so much business due to poor language translation. It could be a great choice for vegans but the menu will leave you frustrated and confused.

This place is romantic with a staff that will make your visit memorable. The food has flavour parings that are incredible. May I recommend the spinach salad with lemon truffle dressing…I wanted to lick the plate. The fresh figs with mint were memorable and the wine list will take years to sample. There is a thoughtful vegetarian menu as well. All in all, if you love wine you will love this place. You will also pay top dollar but you will not regret it.

Can't beat the price. Somewhat Romantic with the candles and the house wine is not bad either. I have never been disappointed. worth the wait. My last visit was with a party of six and even with a bottle of wine and plenty of starters the bill was under 100...

I liked this place. Kind of loud-romantic-ish. The wine list was great. Not much thought for the Vegetarian on the menu but they were happy to adjust. The menu is minimal but every thing I tasted was so good. The pizza has a spice that is wonderful but i could not identify it. The curry was good enough to drink. The DJ was talented and the music was LOUD but the sound system was great quality so there was no distortion. I was able to carry on a conversation even with the music. Yew York also has a choice of tables or couches for a more social feeling. My Complements to whoever thought to have couches.
