Pajo's Fish & Chips2800 Murray St, Port Moody
childhood memories of the fries in the newspaper
Submitted Friday, June 13, 2008 - 4:57pm [Dine in]

I haven't been to Pajo's in a while, but I used to go often when I was little with my parents and grandparents and I remember getting fries in the newspaper. It's a really strong childhood memory of going swimming in the pool, going to Pajo's and the park right beside it. Hopefully the boathouse doesn't take too much business away from Pajo's... it's a great little stand!!!

Megabite Pizza1005 Granville Street, Vancouver
megabite, mega-AWESOME
Submitted Friday, June 13, 2008 - 4:52pm [Dine in]

I'm happy they opened a megabite on granville for those of us who frequent the bars down there. Instead of having to wait the skytrain ride to commercial to get pizza, you can stumble out of the bar and find your way there sooner! The only complaint I have is that I don't think they have public washrooms, and it's so bright in there... it's hard on the eyes. The pizza is always good, always fresh. I'll probably start to gain weight because of this.

Roxy Burger910 Granville Street, Vancouver
i LOVE roxy burger
Submitted Friday, June 13, 2008 - 4:38pm [Dine in]

My girlfriends and I frequent the roxy burger after the bar. I might be slightly biased because of the tradition we have when we all get together, but i love it. The service can sometimes be slow on a Friday or Saturday night, depending on how many servers are on. However, I always leave happier than when I came in. The one complaint I have are the bathrooms. They're creepy. I don't like how they're in the basement. I get an uneasy feeling going down that winding hallway and down the flights of stairs, like someone is gunna jump out at me. I would highly recommend this place to anyone needing a bite to eat after the bar. Sometimes we even drive downtown from Burnaby just to get the Big Ass Salad and Roxy Fries. i LOVE roxy burger.

are they even making money?
Submitted Friday, June 13, 2008 - 4:32pm [Dine in]

I haven't been there in a while, but I'm pretty sure from recent reviews that they haven't raised their prices. I used to go there up to 3 times a week and the food is dirt cheap - and actually good food too! I don't understand how they stay open, but the prices and service work for me. It's close to SFU and the prices attract poor students. It's decor is simple, but it works. The service is great - it's so small, it's hard not to be. I think I'll re-visit soon.

Rosa's Cucina Italiana2331 Clarke Street, Port Moody
delicious
Submitted Friday, June 13, 2008 - 4:15pm [Dine in]

This place has awesome italian food. I mean, real Italian food. Not some trendy pasta dish at the local modern restaurant. The food did take a while to get to our table, however, it's a tiny restaurant, and I'm guessing there's not more than 2-3 cooks back there, so I let it slide. And Rosa served us! Not many places have the owner as a server! I thought that was cool. She was very nice. She reminded me of my mom or something - very warm and welcoming. Like I said before, it's tiny - so I was a little claustrophobic. It's cool because they have pictures of all the famous people that have been there on the walls. I think that's a cute touch. My boyfriend wanted to pack up his bread, and I wouldn't let him because I said it looked cheap - but when Rosa came over with our leftovers packed up, she packed up the bread for him, and he was happy. Kind of hard to find unless you know where it is because it's so small. I've driven past it many times and not even known it was there. Will definitely return soon!

Earls3850 Lougheed Highway, Burnaby
worst service in a restaurant EVER
Submitted Friday, June 13, 2008 - 4:04pm [Dine in]

I've been to this Earl's location on other occasions and left with an okay attitude about this place. However, there was one time I went there with friends, and I was so disgusted with the service. My two friends and myself went to get some appys and drinks there one night. I think it was a sunday or something - it wasn't very busy at all, and I think it was near the end of the night. There was probably 5 tables in the whole restaurant. Our server took FOREVER to get us drinks. I understand if it's busy, but there was literally no one there. We finished our drinks, and our server seemed to disappear! She didn't come back for another 15 minutes, picked up our glasses, with her hands, and just walked away. Didn't ask if we wanted another one. Nothing. We waved her back and ordered more. It was like we were bothering her to get us more drinks. Another friend joined us and our server, again, had disappeared. We timed it. He was sitting there for 25 minutes without her walking by ONCE! He went up to the bar to get a drink where he met another guy who said he was doing the same thing!!! I was livid. Then, we're sitting along the wall with the wine racks, and we look through, and there's our server, playing CATCH with one of the cooks!!!!! wow. wow. I will NEVER return there, and neither will any of my friends. HORRIBLE.

Austin Heights Diner2154 Austin Avenue, Coquitlam
good place for cheap breakfast
Submitted Friday, June 13, 2008 - 3:52pm [Dine in]

As I'm trying to think of something to write positive about this place, the thought ran through my head: "I probably shouldn't eat there anymore". The food is dirt cheap - but I would be scared to see what their kitchen looks like if it is reflective of the front of the house. It's like they are barely staying open, and don't invest any money into what the place looks like. The servers are all very short with you and it seems like you're taking too much time to order because they're hurrying you along. Maybe they shouldn't be understaffed because this is a problem I always have with them. If it's busy, be prepared to wait for your food. It's greasy, and it's not that great, but if you're fighting a hangover, it's awesome. I don't like how they leave the creamers out on the tables with no cooling to them. They probably sit there all day like that. It feels like I'm at a diner passing through a small town in the interior somewhere with the staff and the appearance of the place, but then I step outside and it's Austin and I'm in metro Vancouver. It's weird. Wouldn't suggest it to others.

I love going to Joey's. The food is always fresh and delicious. The service is always excellent. Never a bad experience here. I have nothing but positive things to say about Joey's. The big glass thing in the front always amazes me... even though I've seen it many times. The bellini's are always a good choice, and the Viva Salad is awesome. Just awesome. Going here to meet friends for dinner and drinks is always something I look forward to.

Boston Pizza1035 Lougheed Hwy, Coquitlam
not the best BP
Submitted Friday, June 13, 2008 - 3:36pm [Dine in]

This Boston Pizza is not meeting the service standards it should. One time my sister and I waited at the front for a soild 10 minutes before someone even noticed we were there. The food is portioned to be small, unless it's pasta or pizza. The servers that I've had on a couple occasions are not good. Not good at all. I know server specs and most of them just doesn't do them. BP's has great garlic twist bread and I suggest getting it with the cactus dip. This BP's should re-train some of their employees to meet the standards they need to, and be on the same level of other BP's. I perfer to go to other BP's in the area over this one for that reason.

John B. Neighbourhood Pub, The1000 Austin Ave., Coquitlam
okay, just okay.
Submitted Friday, June 13, 2008 - 3:22pm [Dine in]

The John B has been around for a long time, and it's a great neighbourhood place to get together with friends for a couple drinks. The food is okay - it's pub food, so don't expect too much. The decor obviously hasn't been updated much since it opened - it's kinda like the t.v. show Cheers. I guess it's not that bad. Lately, the servers have been getting younger and younger and dressing more scantily clad than usual. I don't know if this is a change in management and new policies or what, but the guys I know seem to like it, and I get a good laugh out of it, so it's working on some level. However, the waitresses for the most part are not very friendly and seem like they would like to be else where doing other things. Some of them are really nice so I guess that balances out the other not-so-nice ones. Hopefully, you sit in a section of a nice one. Other than that, the patio is decent and there's never a line or fights like other local "pubs"

Wings Restaurants & Pubs7124 King George Highway, Surrey
only go on sundays...but you'll wait a long time, and maybe not get a table
Submitted Friday, June 13, 2008 - 3:10pm [Dine in]

The wings are great, (they better be - it's called WINGS). The servers are kind of blah about their job. The host staff is so slow and doesn't know what's going on around them. On sundays it's really busy because it's cheap wing night and it's like it hit them from left field and they don't know what's going on... yet, it happens every week? The host did not take down our name for some reason and started seating other people that came in after us. When my boyfriend went to ask why this was happening, we learned that our name wasn't even on the wait list. Not cool. The server was friendly enough, and was nice enough to leave a jug of water on our table just in case our wings were too spicy (that's tacky). Are you really that busy that you can't walk around with a jug of water and fill up glasses? It's not like we didn't order any other drinks or anything either. When you bring back beers, why not fill up waters too? So tacky. The whole place is tacky for that matter. Anyways, long story short, good wings, horrible service, but I guess you get what you pay for on wing sundays.

Awesome Kung Pao Chicken
Submitted Friday, June 13, 2008 - 3:00pm [Dine in]

Recently my friend moved into an appartment downtown near GM Place and found this little gem! It is a bit pricey, but the food is excellent and the service is good. The Kung Pao Chicken is probably the best I've ever had, and I like to eat a lot of Kung Pao Chicken. I would definately recommend this place on the Kung Pao Chicken alone.

Cactus Club Cafe101 Schoolhouse Street, #110, Coquitlam
mixed feelings
Submitted Friday, June 13, 2008 - 2:48pm [Dine in]

I've been to this Cactus Club on several different occasions, and I always leave asking myself, why did I come back?
The food is okay. It's trendy and overpriced, and I know this, but still order it. The service is usually okay, however, my sister and I went a while back and it was horrible. They sat us in a nice booth, and then sat screaming children right beside us! Cactus Club is a restaurant aimed towards a clientele of younger people.... I didn't think it was that young though! I know it's the parents' responsibility to control their children, so I guess it's not their fault. Other waitresses have been nice, but kind of indifferent. They have the whole "i'm a cactus club server, so I'm god's gift to man" attitude about them. One server didn't get our drinks to us until after our appy got there. That's bad. And we had to wave down another server for refills. I always go there expecting the worst service, and receiving about what I expect. This way I never leave disappointed!
The ambiance is the only thing this place has going for it. It's very modern and the bathrooms are SO cool... maybe that's why I keep coming back, the exotic foot flush. haha.

Keg Steakhouse & Bar, The800 Columbia Street, New Westminster
living up to the keg's reputation
Submitted Friday, June 13, 2008 - 2:19pm [Dine in]

Last night my boyfriend and I went to the Keg in New West for dinner. Our server was very friendly and helpful. We had the Baked Garlic Shrimp appy which was excellent. I had the Sirloin Classic Dinner, and my boyfriend had the Steak and 1/2 Lobster of their feature menu. It was excellent. My only complaint is not about the food or the service, but the building itself. I know it's a very old building, but could they please put another bathroom in there?! They're all the way at the top of the restaurant in a small, stuffy room. Overall, great time, excellent service, and delicious food.

great place for chinese food
Submitted Friday, June 13, 2008 - 2:13pm [Dine in]

This little restaurant in Port Moody is a great place that not many people know about. Unlike other Chinese restaurants that are crowded, noisey, and uninviting, this place is smaller and not very busy most of the time. The service is good, although on one occasion one of the cooks came to our table to take our order. I'm guessing because the servers English wasn't very strong. Green Tea is not always served, but when it is, it is always full. The food is excellent and the portions are very good for the price you pay. The food is also not greasy like other places, and it is actually flavourful. I suggest the Kung Pao Chicken and Sweet and Sour pork.
