I love South East Asian cuisine, and Ellies is one of my favourite for value and quality!
My repeat dishes are the satays (love the peanut sauce), roti, anything randang, seafood paper hot pot, and their house special fried rice.
I don't think I've ever had any dishes that I particularly disliked. Everything is flavourful and tasty without being overly greasy.
Their service is alright...there was one waitress there (who seemed to ALWAYS be there) that always served us and she was on top of things. The newer ones seem to be slower and weren't as attentive.
I go here knowing that I won't be disappointed =)
I tried this place for the first time the other night, and though the menu was interesting and there were a lot of unique items on there, the menu is waaay too decieving, showing big portions when they are really only small portions on small plates and small bowls.
I got the mango cold noodle in strawberry coconut juice, and it is displayed on this big white plate/bowl, and it comes in their typical small bowl for almost double the price as the other bowled desserts.
Don't trust it as being 100% healthy either...my mango gigi with honey coconut was overly sweet, and their snacks menu is far from being healthy (deep fried?).
Having done food photography, I know the need to impress in photographs, but having such large portions compared to what you actually serve leaves the customer feeling lied to and in the end, leaves them feeling cheated.
Most likely not coming back! They have the potential to do well presentation wise but they just fell flat. I'd rather buy fresh fruit from the grocers and prepare it myself at home~
