Akashi-Ya Japanese Restaurant7093 King George Hwy, Suite 307, Surrey
Always delicious
Submitted Saturday, September 12, 2009 - 10:14pm [Dine in]

We have been here many times when visiting friends in Surrey. We've never been disappointed with food or service which is very attentive. We tried any roll or Sashimi offered on the menu. Everything is very fresh and delicious.
We have tried other Japanese places in the neighbourhood, however, somehow they can't measure up.

RECOMMENDED.

Josephine's Restaurant2650 Main St., Vancouver
Good Filipino Food
Submitted Saturday, June 13, 2009 - 1:12pm [Dine in]

At Josephine's you can eat good Filipino food. I can't call it incredible, however it's good and consistently good. There would be still lots of room for improvement. However, it's cheaper than Goldilocks. The fact that mostly Filipinos east here speaks for the restaurant.
The restaurant itself is nothing special. No fancy decoration or designer colours. However, I don't think that anyone would be looking for this in a Filipino restaurant at this price level. Josephine's does not carry the dessert's like Goldilocks.
They have guest parking in the alley.

Stepho's Greek Taverna1124 Davie St, Vancouver
not worth lining up even for 5 minutes
Submitted Sunday, March 8, 2009 - 12:21am [Dine in]

We have taken off this restaurant a long time from our regular lunch / dinner places. Yesterday we thought we give it another try since there was no line up on - at least on the walkway outside.
Well, well, well, what a mistake. We were standing inside the restaurant and got ignored by each staff walking by. Several times we tried to approach a server - no reaction.

We decided to leave the restaurant and to dine next door.

Sometimes, when people are successful, the service is going down the drain. Why caring if someone is waiting? If you don't take the table, 10 others will take it.

Well, they will not see us there anylonger.

Jam's Bistro3605 Gilmore Way, #100, Burnaby
Never seen such a place before
Submitted Saturday, March 7, 2009 - 11:40pm [Dine in]

I recently started a new job in Burnaby and discovered JAM'S BISTRO. This restaurant is surrounded by office buildings in the Canada Way / Gilmore Way area. This place is certainly not your regular coffee shop (SEATTLE'S BEST COFFEE) or soup & sandwich place.
They have incredible lunch specials which are changing daily. The food is freshly cooked. My colleagues and I had steaks, salmon, crepes and many other delicious dishes there. The servings are very generous. If you believe it or not they don't have anything fro more than $8 on the menu; and this was the price I paid for a steak with home made potato salad and a soup.

You can find all sorts of sandwiches, Paninis, burgers, fish & chips, Reuben's etc. on the menu.

I hope the weather will be nice soon so we can sit on their huge patio enjoying our lunch break even more.

Kam's Place1043 Davie Street, Vancouver
In toady's world outstanding value
Submitted Saturday, March 7, 2009 - 11:18pm [Dine in]

We dine at KAM'S at least once a week and this for more than 5 years already. When reading many of the reviews here I can't even believe that people went to the same restaurant. Mr. Kam's is certainly an expert in the hospitality industry. Prices are rising every month and he still puts so much food on your plate that most patrons can't even finish it. His lunch specials are so cheap one who is familiar with food process must certainly raise the question 'how can he do it?"

His employees are the most friendly and kind individuals you can imagine. It is absolutely wrong to call Mr. Kam's unique personalty "pathetic" or to call him other names. That's the way he is, that's what made him famous and that's the Mr. Kam's hundreds of guests like.

Kam's food is not 5 Star, however is tasty. We I have never experienced watered down peanut butter sauce or ketchup sauce like other guys described it here. For some people to consider: Once you picked a table and the first orders are served the number of your table is assigned to your orders. Cancelling this during rush time requires some work. Deleting all orders and entering them again with a new table number / code.

Kam's place delivers in today's world an outstanding value. And just to be clear: No, I don't have any shares in this company. I just think people should be honest, since the service is friendly and the restaurant is clean. Have you ever seen another restaurant with so many beautiful orchids and fresh flowers on almost each table?

Kadoya Japanese1063 Davie Street, Vancouver
Arrogant & Unfriendly
Submitted Saturday, March 7, 2009 - 9:02pm [Dine in]

Kadoya is off our list of favorite restaurants for good.

Lets start with the only positive thing about this place. The chef, even to the best of my knowledge not Japanese, is better than the majority of Sushi chefs he competes with in Vancouver. He gives every roll a special something you don't find in other restaurants.

However, he can work as hard as he wants, the 100% female server team ruins all his good work. Do not expect service. You are not welcome here - except during the moment you show cash or your credit card. These girls get argervated when you ask for water or tea.
The servers can even be called rude at certain times. When you finish the last bite and your chop sticks might not even touch the table - be sure someone is behind you and removes your plate. They even do this when you are the only guest during lunch time. We certainly don't like it.

And yes, I guess they save money and don't have a cleaning lady. The floor is more than dirty.

If you wanna enjoy your lunch or dinner, than this is not the place to
go.
