Service That Will Make You Hurt Someone...
Submitted Monday, June 27, 2011 - 4:57pm [Dine in]

My husband and I finally decided to try out Sui Sha Ya for the first time for lunch. We were hesitant to go due to all of the negative reviews, but based on where we live, we decided it would be good to finally try it.

Upon arrival, I waited close to 8 minutes before anyone even said anything to me. Finally after waiting, a server mumbled that it would be a 5 minute wait; which is typical of a good all you can eat sushi joint. We waited for about 10 minutes and the waiter finally motioned that a table was ready. I figured, like any restaurant, that the server would guide you to the table. Not here! I found the table myself and the server came and plopped the menu and ordering cards on the table.

This was the first sign of the bad things that were about to come...

We decided what to have, and ordered. We placed our ordering card on the edge of the table and waited...and waited...and waited. Finally our server came and grabbed it off of the table, not making eye contact, saying a word or even asking us if we wanted anything other than tea to drink. He then came with our food, slammed it on the table and walked away as quickly as possible; still not asking us if we wanted anything else. This kind of service continued as we waited for our food and when our food finally did arrive.

My husband asked for a glass of water, it never came. We asked for more napkins, they never came. We did notice however that our server was having a seemingly good day; chatting behind the counter, sipping on his drink, and not making eye contact with anyone other than the woman on the till.

During our entire 45 minute meal at Sui Sha Ya, our server did not say one word or make eye contact once. If you are looking to be treated like cattle, this is the place to go! We were not the only ones complaining about the service either. The tables all around us were having the same experience as us. I then went to pay for our meal and not once did the woman ask how it was or how my day was going. She grabbed my debit card and threw the machine back at me to pay.

My husband and I frequently eat out and NEVER leave without giving a tip; but I gave our server $0 at Sui Sha Ya. This restaurant is NOT a typical, friendly Japanese restaurant so if you are looking for mediocre sushi and to be treated like crap, go and visit Sui Sha Ya!

The Ultimate Fish and Chip Joint
Submitted Tuesday, May 3, 2011 - 2:46pm [Dine in]

This was not my first time at Go Fish nor will it be my last! As an avid seafood lover it's hard to find amazing fish and chips but look no further; Go Fish is your spot. I went today as it was sunny and an absolutely gorgeous day in Vancouver. The line was short when I arrived but less than 20 minutes later the place was packed! I was lucky enough to find a table in the sun and waited for my lunch patiently. I will say that the wait was long but completely worth it!

I got my lunch about 25 minutes after I ordered. I had the 1 piece halibut and chips which was crispy, light and FRESH! My lunch was delicious and cost around $18 for food and a Limonata. It's more expensive than most fish and chip joints but the quality of product is evident at Go Fish. It's worth it!!

The service today was okay. The girls were friendly but I will say that they opened late today, which is to me, highly dissapointing and unprofessional. Don't expect much in terms of service here...expect amazing, fresh seafood and a gorgeous view of the city!!!

Tasty and Fast Service Sushi!
Submitted Monday, July 12, 2010 - 7:01pm [Dine in]

Living in the area, my fiance and I eat at O-Sushi all of the time. Not only is the service always good and very quick, the food is great!

I typically order a California Roll, Yam Roll, Sunamono Salad and miso and I absolutely love it! My fiance always has something different and it too is always up to par. The odd occasion you get something that isn't as good as last time, but O-Sushi always lives up to being a really great place to eat.

Plus, it's cheap!!!

Gourmet Dave's11945 224th Ave, Maple Ridge
Too Much Goat Cheese
Submitted Sunday, September 20, 2009 - 7:04pm [Dine in]

I ate at Gourmet Dave's last week with some women from work. We arrived at 12:05 and the place was packed. This didn't surprise me, as it's a great lunch spot! A table came free for all three of us at 12:10. We sat for about 10 minutes before the server took our drink order.

We then ordered our lunch which was a club sandwhich, soup and a spinach salad. We didn't receive our lunch until 12:40. I was very confused as to why a salad, soup and sandwhich took so long??? The spinach salad was "okay". Nothing special and I could make the same salad at home for half of the price. There was FAR too much goat cheese on this sald, which overpowered everything.

The value is good though, as my friends sandwhiches looked fantastic and the soup smelt great! Gourmet Dave's does do good catering, and I think that is where this restaurant excels. I do not think they do well during a busy lunch service or with the speed of their service...

Chada Thai Fine Cuisine2991 Lougheed Hwy, #107, Coquitlam
Best Thai Outside of Thailand
Submitted Tuesday, May 6, 2008 - 7:27pm [Dine in]

I lived in Thailand and know what Thai food is supposed to taste like...and Chada Thai has the best Thai food outside of Thailand.

Not only is the spice exactly how the Thai's like it, but the dishes taste like they do when you are sitting on the beach in Phuket eating them.

My only con about Chada Thai is the Caucasian staff who don't understand Thai cuisine....When I go to a Thai restaurant I expect it to be authentic and have people serving me that understand what Thai food truly is. Unfortunately one of the staff does not understand authentic Thai food.

Boathouse Restaurant, The2770 Esplanade Ave, Port Moody
A Dissapointing Meal...
Submitted Tuesday, May 6, 2008 - 7:22pm [Dine in]

Going through Dine Here last night to find a place to eat, my boyfriend and I chose The Boathouse. Thinking that it would be a beautiful, delicious new restaurant to try, we headed out to Port Moody.

Unfortunately, walking in the door to Ditzy blonde hosts was our first indication that things were about to go horribly wrong. The wait for the dining room was 40 minutes...So we decided on the lounge. Although the building is structurally beautiful, the lounge tables are not comfortable and do not provide a suitable atmosphere for two people to sit across from one another. The lounge was also graced with the two young bartenders, who unfortunately lacked most service skills...No one explained the menu to us, service was slow and he used words like "guys" and "cool" throughout our entire dining experience. Finally a wonderful waitress took time out of her own tables to explain the menu and some good choices for dinner.

Now, the food....Greasy, overcooked, and just plain not so good for a seafood restaurant that is in a higher price category. The only "food" that was good at The Boathouse was our white wine sangria's. The amount of food was great, but other than that, it lacked taste and was not properly cooked. Rather sad when you are paying over $30.00 for a plate that is supposed to be GREAT seafood.

The Boathouse would not be a great choice if you're looking for amazing seafood and service. Not only was the food bad, the servers are young, rather rude, and do not know the menu.
