Have been here many, many times because it is in our immediate neighbourhood.

But today was a disappointment. My dining partner immediately noticed something was different when they served lukewarm tea.

Dishes were smaller and not as fresh. They seem to be substituting ingredients. Ate only a few pieces of the yaki ika (grilled squid).

Something's wrong.

2nd visit

Something happened between our first visit in Nov 08 and Feb 09--not for the better. While it was still a good experience, the interesting and unique flavors were missing. We were stuck by the front door in a very awkward spot, with new arrivals literally tripping over us--and that with a reservation!

The game hen was okay, but the sauce had more salt than flavor. The lightly battered fish special was really mundane.

We won't rush back.

One of the worst Japanese restaurants I've seen in a long time. Overly sweet teriyaki. But if cheap is your only concern, then this may be the place. The place was full, so I assume the crowd was more interested in price than quality, or anything resembling Japanese cuisine. There are so many inexpensive Japanese restaurants that are better. Perhaps the local Kitsilano bunch does not know better.
