Our first meal at this restaurant was not especially memorable - regular sushi at reasonable prices in a pleasant but not especially ambiant little restaurant.
The next time we went was awful though; in need of a sushi fix and our regular Point Grey haunt having closed for the evening we headed in and ordered some edamme to nibble on and drinks, whilst we chose what sushi and noodle delights we would feast on. The menu has a reasonable choice, and lots of combi offers too, so the choosing process can take a while - especially for people like us!
But when we ordered the waitress informed us that they had run out of sushi rice!!! We just couldn't believe that this could happen, and that they had failed to let us know when we first got there! She was just really matter of fact about it and not really at all apologetic - and when we said that in that case we didn't want to eat there after all, she just brought our bill over to us - they didn't even give us the drinks and beans as complimentary, despite the fact that we would never have even sat down if they had told us about the lack of rice!
Shocking really, we would never venture into this place again - a shame really as the food and prices are quite good.

Well, where to begin?! We literally lived around the corner from this place. We went there for brekkie, brunch, lunch, dinner and drinks on so many occasions.
A very stylish, sleek, modern interior but very warm and welcoming at the same time. All the staff are super friendly and always make your visit seem too long since the last.
Brunch: There is plenty to choose from, satisfying the health conscious and those of us with ginormous appetites equally well. Dishes include a variety of egg white omelettes, pancakes, french toast and several cooked breakfast options. A selection of fruits is available with most dishes.
Lunch: Burgers, salads and sandwiches are extremely tasty at fantastic prices.
Dinner: Will cater to a casual diner or those looking for a more sophisticated choice of West Coast fare.

Having walked past Burgoo on many occasions, it was always a place that was on the list of places to go. It was always busy and in fair weather diners over-flowing onto the street. The ambience was subdued when we headed there, close to closing one evening. But I imagine when busy there would be an excellent buzz.
The soup/sandwich and soup/salad combos are very versatile and wholesome. The food is homely in style, but the varied ingredient combinations are bistro quality.
My favorite aspect of Burgoo's menu is how it would offer the best seasonal ingredients, a great reason to check back often.
