Past little while, I been hearing in the Persian community that this restaurant called Shalizar is this and that. So when my auntie came from Iran for a visit, we decided to give them a try. Mind you we were a little hesitant at first because my parents were never impressed with anything Iranian in this city. To our surprise, ShalIzar is this cute little restaurant located in a great area. Quite honestly, we put down our guards a little bit right off the bat. I think it's the only Persian restaurant I have seen in my many years living in Canada that has a fine dining setting (setup tables, table cloth, matching color cloth napkins, etc...). We were very impressed. I ordered the Chicken with an extra skewer of Koobideh (ground beef), same with mom and auntie and my dad went for sour kebab. A little while later we were served a bowl of soup, which we were told is on the house(mind you we thought it's only to make us feel special and came to find out that they serve barley soup to all their guest as a starter for free). One thing that they could possibly improve was their wine list, not the greatest selection. We got served shortly after and got a great presentation. Their plates are very tastefully colourful and nicely presented. The chicken was so juicy and tender, and the koobideh was the best I've had in years. This was a mutual undrestanding with mom and autie as well. Dad loved his food too. Another improvement I can point out is their desert selection. Not alot of variety besides tea, coffee, cheese cake, ice cream and Persian sweets. We decided to do desert at home. Shalizar, keep up the great work. We will definately be back. : )
