Pretty good food, great service

The service at Ashoka is great. The servers are very attentive with constant refills of water - important for spicy Indian food. I have eaten here a few times and I find that the quality of food has decreased, however, it is still pretty good. I have just had better Indian at other restuarants.

Good food, good value

This is a small, pleasant restuarant. The service wasn't great but it was very busy when as I went on a Friday night. The servers were polite enough and the food came quickley, but it was difficult to catch their attention and they forgot to bring me a drink I ordered. The food was delicious and the value was outstanding. I ordered a Bento special for $8.95 and I couldn't finish all the food, despite the fact that it was all very fresh and tasty. My dinner companion and I ordered a large amount of food and shared a large Japanese beer and the bill was under $40 dollars. Despite the fact that the service wasn't amazing, I would certainly go back because the food was so good.

Bistro Elis14909 Marine Dr, White Rock
Best Fish & Chips in White Rock
Submitted Tuesday, March 20, 2007 - 4:08pm [Dine in]

I work on the waterfront in White Rock and it can be difficult to find a place with decent food at a decent price. Bistro Elis is a small, funky cafe that is lovely on a summer day. It has delicious sandwiches and great fish & chips. The batter on the fish is light and tasty and the fish inside actually looks and tastes like fish rather than the mush you get at other Fish & Chip places. Most meals are under $10 and they have good drink specials. The yam fries are also a must try. Service can be slow on a nice day when the restuarant is very busy, but the friendliness and charisma of the owner makes up for it. Last time I went there for a weekend lunch the owner gave me free beer!
