My parents always drag me here because they think the food is cheap and not terribly awful. They enjoy ordering the combos which includes a lettuce wrap and crab.
I personally feel the food is pretty good compared to other chinese restaurants...but the ambiance and hygeine of the place kills my appetite. The place is pretty much so dirty that food inspectors could shut it down anytime.
The Boathouse is the best seafood place you can go in Vancouver. The only aspect that dictates seafood is its freshness and that's what Boathouse can give. I personally like seafood with as little marinating and cooking as possible.
The service was wonderful, but the food is kind of pricy. Something that you'll enjoy once in a while.
Love their raw oysters.
The ambiance of better than Metrotown's even after its renovation. The service is still kind of poor. Servers are smiless robots. The food portions have definately shrunk. And I don't like how they put their bake oysters in tin dishes, it defeats the point of baked oysters. Their sushi is blah, not much flavor. The fish is an extremely thin slice on the rice.
The price isn't really reasonable for the type of food you get. That's why I only go once every three months.
Plus, after gorging yourself at all-you-can-eat, you don't want to be near sushi in a couple of months.
I went with my family for the first time after hearing about their notoriously spicy hot wings. We ordered a plate of Texas fries which were pretty good (a southern style poutine without gravy), a bowl of onion soup and for starters, some Jammin Jamaican Wings which were nice and tangy but definately not what I call hot (it was rated 2 chilipeppers).
Halfway into our food, we decided to bump up to some Bobby Wings from the House of Pain but the waitress said it makes grown men cry so we were persuaded into their Wings of Fire instead which were a grade lower.
Man, were those the hottest wings I've ever had!!! Unfortunately, it was only the sauce that was spicy, the meat inside really had no flavor.
Overall, the food was great, kind of disappointed that the spicyness only comes from the sauce, but the price was very agreeable--our tab only came to $28 and we a family of 3 were really full.
