"No Tip? Don't Come Back!!!!" so he said
Submitted Tuesday, October 11, 2011 - 3:31pm [Dine in]

I've been to this restaurant a few times with family and friends and found the food quite decent but the service always mediocre. Today, my husband and I went there for lunch and the place was relatively empty at around 1:30PM. After we finished we asked for our bill and finally after we got it, we placed the exact change in the tray with the bill. We were discussing how much tip we should leave when a male waiter came along and looked at the tray and said, "No tip? No tip?" Then picked the tray up, looked at the tray then stirred the money around, as if to count it, dropped the tray on the table and walked away. At this point, I said to my husband, "I don't think he deserves any tip with that kind of attitude". Another lady server came along and scoped up the tray and took off. The male waiter noticed this and went to speak to her. Then he came back and said, "No tip? Don't come back anymore" and proceeded to strip off the table cloth right in front of us almost throwing a bag that was on the table to the floor. Obviously, a hint for us to leave.

Who needs that kind of attitude and service when there are so many other great places we can go to that appreciates our business. These people seem to think that they're service is fantastic but little do they know that word gets around and before you know it, their sales start declining and before you know it, it's goodbye Charlie. Better wake up, Po King Seafood owners. Competition is the name of the game and at this rate you won't be in business long. We certainly won't be going back to were we're not wanted and treated so disrespectfully. Mr. Waiter, don't worry you won't be seeing us again! Goodbye Mack and may you continue to search for that illusive "tip" because at the rate you're going it's going to be slim pickin's!

You get what you pay for!
Submitted Tuesday, November 3, 2009 - 10:41am [Dine in]

We used the 1/2 price for the second meal coupons on Saturday and we should have realized this was the way for to fill an empty restaurant. There were four of us and we ended up paying for only one meal because the meals were so bad.

One person order potato skins that were cold and shrivelled. I order turkey dinner. I asked them to make sure the gravy was on the side. The meal came with gravy on everything and it was sent back. When I got the meal, the mashed potatoes had big chunks of uncooked potatoes, the turnips were still raw, the carrots were hard but eatable. I ended up sending that back and got a fruit salad instead.

We live in the neighbourhood and used to go to this restaurant whenever we were at Kensington Mall but we definitely won't be going there. If I'm going to an ABC Restaurant, I'll go to the one out in Port Coquitlam or Boundary Road. Don't waste your money here until they get a new cook.

Garlic & Chili Restaurant5901 Broadway, #7, Burnaby
Best Chinese restaurant in North Burnaby
Submitted Friday, May 1, 2009 - 10:29pm [Dine in]

As with the previous reviewer, we were totally surprised to see this new restaurant that replaced Chiu Yuet's at Parkcrest Mall in North Burnaby. We all love garlic and chili and so we thought we'd give it a try. What a pleasant surprise! We had the braised tofu with vegetables, Garlic and spicy squids, House special ginger beef, and the House special fried rice. We were not disappointed! The food was hot, fresh and the portions were quite large compared to other places. We asked the waiter to make sure it wasn't too spicy and it was perfect. The dishes range around #9.50 to $13.00 which we thought was quite reasonable. This place also has take-outs and delivery within a 3K radius which is great because I lve in the area. We'll definitely be going back.

OK for the Price
Submitted Tuesday, December 23, 2008 - 11:23pm [Dine in]

We went to this restaurant today for All You Can Eat lunch. The price was very reasonable compared to some other AYCE places. The food selection is fair but we found, as the price reflects, there are some things left off the menu compared to other AYCE places. For instance, we found the selction of sushi was light and items such as prawn tempura were left off the menu.

The service was very fast and efficient and the ambience was nice. I guess, for the price, it was a very reasonable lunch.

You have to try this place
Submitted Saturday, November 22, 2008 - 2:56pm [Dine in]

If you're in the North Burnaby area, you need to drop into this unassuming Chinese restaurant. The food is delicious and my family and I have tried many of the dishes at this restaurant and have never been disappointed. People have commented about the "smiling waiter". His name is Stanley and I agree when you are lucky to be there when Stanley is working, you are in luck. Stanley is always cheerful and goes out of his way to make sure you are looked after. Along with the food, Stanley is one of the reasons we go to this restaurant. Give it a try, I'm sure you won't be disappointed.

An unforgetable Breakfast
Submitted Sunday, October 19, 2008 - 5:28pm [Dine in]

My husband and I stopped at Ricky's for breakfast while our car was being serviced nearby. If we had known that our breakfasts were going to be so unforgetably poor, we would have gone to any of the other reastaurants nearby such as IHOP or Night & Day. My husband ordered the cheese omlette and I ordered the mushroom, pepper and ham omlette with herbs. My mistake was that I forgot to ask them to leave the herbs out but the dry, rubbery omlette was not an excuse. I told the server but she just looked at me. I left a note on the back of the bill and told the cashier but that was it, she just looked at me.

In my opinion, after you go to places like Paul's Omlettry on Granville Street near 7th avenue you can't compare it to a place like Ricky's. If you go to Paul's Omlettry try their shitake omlette. It is to die for!

Probably wouldn't go back
Submitted Friday, August 29, 2008 - 9:39pm [Dine in]

We were at Mareket Crossing this afternoon and thought we'd try this Japanese restaurent. When we walked in, the server handled us the menus and we asked her if they had a lunch menu as well. I don't think she understood us and said "no" and walked away. When we looked at the menu we were astonished to see how expensive everything was compared to many of the other Japanese restaurants in the Burnaby area. We debated whether we should walk out but since there were a number of people their at the lunch hour we thought it must be good.

We finally decided to order tempura udon at $10.95 per person and while the food was OK it was really nothing to rave about. Afterwards, we asked another server if they had a lunch menu and she said, "of course, that's what alot of people come here at lunch for". We didn't ask to see the lunch menu but I asm sure it was as expensive as the rest of the menu. In hindsight, we should have walked out but, we now know what the service and food is like. The restaurant is new, so it was very clean and roomy.

I was so looking forward to this place
Submitted Tuesday, August 26, 2008 - 10:15am [Dine in]

I was so looking forward to this place after reading the reviews. We went their on a Sunday and found it was closed, so, we went on a Saturday night. Boy, were we ever disappointed. We ordered the Pad Thai which was OK but nothing to rave about. The cashew chicken was very waterery and the pineapple rice (not in a pineapple) was bland and relatively tasteless.

The service was very slow and the waiter delivered someone elses food to our table by mistake and had to redo the dish again for the guests who had already been waiting for some time. In my opinion, the food and service was definitely over-rated.

A great Italian restaurant right at our doorstep!
Submitted Tuesday, July 8, 2008 - 12:39pm [Dine in]

We read about the great experiences people said they have had at Vita Bella Ristorante and so we thoght we'd give it a try. We were not disappointed.

The server was very pleasant and looked after us very nicely. I ordered Spaghettini Pescatore which was simply delicious with a nice assortment of seafood. My daughter ordered the Penne Tarantina with roasted peppers, fennel, grilled eggplants and assorted mushrooms in tomato sauce and she just loved it. My husband ordered Spaghettini al Granchio with fresh Dungeness crab meat, baby aruglua and roasted peoppers in cream sauce and said it was so "yummy". Also, it's nice the owner came around to talk to his customers to see that everything was to their liking.

The price is very reasonable and this is definitely a restaurant that we will be returning to soon.

10% Gratuity
Submitted Sunday, June 15, 2008 - 11:26pm [Dine in]

I don't mind paying gratuity but I like to decide myself what they deserve. In this case, I didn't mind paying the 10% gratuity but was offended that they thought so well of themselves that they accorded themselves the tip they didn't want to miss.

Generally, the food was OK. A bit more variety then some other all you can eat places. Also, they give seniors a discount which is a nice touch.

Don't confuse this place with one on Renfrew Street
Submitted Sunday, June 15, 2008 - 11:18pm [Dine in]

This is a decent place for good Japanese food. Their sushi is very good. We always like to order their combination special which comes with sunomono, miso soup, chicken or beef teriyaki, california roll and mixed tempura with a good side of rice. They have other combinations as well. All for around $10.00.

We used to frequent the other Bentei Sushi on Renfrew Street before as well but it recently changed ownership, even though it's still called Bentei Sushi. It has a totally different menu and a bit more expensive. I personally prefer the one on East Broadway (original owner) myself.

What's is there to rave about?
Submitted Monday, June 2, 2008 - 2:51pm [Dine in]

We went to this restaurant for dinner and unlike many places they let you order from their lunch menu which is usually a bit less in price.

My friend and I ordered the bento box and in all honesty I cannot say it was terrific. The tempura batter was not crispy and light as it should be and was heavy and soggy. The chicken teriyaki was breaded and my preference is the true Japanese teriyaki marinated in teriyaki sauce. The bean sprouts were soggy sitting in the chicken teriyaki sauce. I had to have an anti acid after. Also, the service was very slow although they did come around and refill the tea a few times.

Dim Sum?
Submitted Sunday, April 20, 2008 - 5:53pm [Dine in]

What a difference a year makes! We went to this restaurant for dim sum a few times last year and went back again yesterday. If you want chaos this is the place to go. There was no one at reception and everyone was seating themselves (can you image the crowd at dim sum - there really wasn't one). We ended up sitting with two other strangers. People were getting up and filling their own tea pots. The food wasn't especially good; the sticky rice was really soggy and hard. Quite a disappointment, all around.

A disappointing Christmas Dinner
Submitted Tuesday, January 8, 2008 - 10:24pm [Dine in]

This was our fourth Christmas family dinner at the Copper Club Grill & Lounge and what a difference a year makes. We were seated fairly quickly and the service was good. But, this year they changed the layout of the buffet which was somewhat cramped in a hallway compared to the previous year were it was more open and easier to get to the food. We also found many of the foods like potatoes, pastas, certain salads and cheese cakes were missing this year. The dessert selection was quite disappointing.

At $37 per person plus an added 15% gratuity makes it a somewhat expensive meal for what was served this year. You have to be careful, if you use your credit card you don't add a further gratuity.

All in all, I think we'll be looking for a different venure next year for our Christmas dinner.

Fresh and delicious
Submitted Thursday, July 12, 2007 - 7:03pm [Dine in]

I love this place! I usually go to Sushi Town for the Deluxe Chirashi (all types of raw fish on top of a bed of rice) and I've never been disappointed.

My husband isn't too keen on raw fish, so, usually orders the chicken teriyaki which he says is good but usually has too much bean sprouts and nothing else. He's tried the seafood noodle and loved it. My daughter always orders an array of sushi's and says she's enjoyed everyone of them because they are so fresh and tasty.

The price is very reasonable and a nice place to enjoy a nice plate of sushi.

Try the 1306
Submitted Thursday, July 12, 2007 - 6:48pm [Dine in]

Whenever we go into Vancouver, we make a point of going to Paul's Place Omelettery for the 1306 Shitake (mushroom) omelette. Try it with a bit of mild or hot sauce. It's to die for. We try to get to this restaurant at least every three months but found our service this time to be extremely slow. Even though the omelette is delicious, if we were in a hurry, I would certainly think twice about going there. We haven't tried the other foods since we go there specifically for the 1306 shitake omelette.

The Soups are my favourite!
Submitted Monday, July 2, 2007 - 1:09pm [Dine in]

I've been comng to Cafe Classico for years. I love coming to this local eatery located in the Burnaby Height's area on Hastings Street. It's very casual, friendly and laid back. The ambiance is very low key but hey, it's clean and that's what counts. If you just want a nice reasonably priced bowl of soup and a sandwich this is the place to come. The service is always friendly and fast. You'll enjoy it!

A good place to go for an inexpensive breakfast!
Submitted Sunday, October 22, 2006 - 11:05pm [Dine in]

If you want a good, solid breakfast at an extremely reasonalble price this is the place to go! My husband and I go here quite often for the $2.95 breakfast with 2 eggs, hashbrown, toast and your choice of ham, sausage or bacon. They also serve Chinese and Canadian food all at a reasonable price. Give this place a try.. a bit out-dated in ambiance but who cares when you can get a good meal at a reasonable price.

A neat little place for lunch!
Submitted Sunday, October 22, 2006 - 4:15pm [Dine in]

There's really not that many places to eat in North Burnaby and when you find a nice, quite place to relax and have a nice lunch this is the place to go. The chicken teriyaki is nicely flavored and one of the best I've tasted for a long time. A place to try if your in the Brentwood Town Center area.
