Average Sushi
Submitted Tuesday, April 24, 2012 - 2:57am [Dine in]

Went here recently for dinner and tried some rolled sushi. The flavour was ok, but not as good as other Japanese places I've been to in the area. The price was about average and the service was ok, but really nothing to write home about. I came here mainly because it had a good health inspection report, but otherwise, I probably wouldn't come back because I think there is better sushi around Metrotown. Though saying that, I didn't have a bad experience.

Lousy Lunch
Submitted Tuesday, April 24, 2012 - 2:35am [Dine in]

Went here with a couple of friends and ordered soup & salad for lunch. When I asked what soups were available, I was told pulled-pork soup and cream of mushroom. I thought pull-pork soup, really? Was pulled-pork yesterday's special being recycled perhaps? As such, I ordered the cream of mushroom. When the order came the salad was rather paltry, the cornbread was decent, but was quite sweet and felt more like something for breakfast, and the cream of mushroom soup was terrible. I had a couple of spoonful and was quite convinced I wasn't eating soup but had been served a mushroom gravy from the day before. With a coffee, the meal came to $15 after tax + tip, which made me feel rather ripped-off. How poor does a cook have to be to screw up soup and salad? Regardless, I wouldn't completely right off the restaurant, but one should be careful about what they order when there.

Decent Sushi
Submitted Friday, February 17, 2012 - 11:47pm [Dine in]

My wife and I have been eating here about once a month for the last 3 - 4 years. We usually order several different types of rolled sushi. What keeps us coming back is the quality of the food - good flavour and portion size for a reasonable price. I suspect it's why Nao Sushi is often so busy. We've eaten at several other sushi restaurants and Nao Sushi is either on par or better. For around $30, we can get enough sushi to be full. When eating in, the decor is attractive, though the restaurant could use a bit more space, but it's not a big deal. If it's busy, we'll call in advance and place a take-out order, which comes along with a 10% discount. The one drawback, as other have commented on, is the service. It seems like a family operation where some of the staff are not professionally trained. They can be slow and sometimes need to be reminded to fill up the tea or bring the bill. Saying that, they aren't rude, and after eating there several times, I tend to ignore it. As repeat customers, we’ve never had a bad experience with the food and given the options in the area, it's a recommended place.

Good Food
Submitted Tuesday, June 2, 2009 - 2:35am [Dine in]

My wife and I go here occasionally and we've always been pleased with the food. As others have commented, the interior is nothing special, but it's not a big deal. The food has always been tasty and my wife and I can get an appetizer, two dishes, rice, and two drinks for around $30. A good value. What has always impressed me is how FAST my food arrives - usually not more than 5 - 8 minutes. I was a little disappointed to find out the chef was Chinese and not Thai, but I won't complain. Probably the main thing I don't like is the location. It's in a small ugly strip mall that has tight parking. Beyond this, the restaurant is definitely recommended for the food.

Average, but good for late nights

The food is average and the prices are what one would expect. My only gripe is that it lacks the more cozy feel that the Swiss Chalet across the street has. Part of the problem is that it's generally a little dark inside. I prefer the Knight and Day in Burnaby. It provides a more friendly atmosphere to say read a book/magazine while getting a late night meal.

Nice place for lunch
Submitted Monday, January 7, 2008 - 3:34pm [Dine in]

I like this location of Nando's for a weekend lunch with the gf. The food is decent and comes with good portion sizes. The ambiance is relaxed, without feeling like a cheap fast-food place. The pricing is about what you'd expect - roughly $30, after taxes, for two people. The only thing I don't like is that the menu is a little limited in terms of choices. Otherwise it's a good place.

This place sucks!!!
Submitted Monday, January 7, 2008 - 3:13pm [Dine in]

I'm surprised this place is still in business. The inside reminded me of a poor quality White Spot. The service was lousy. Our waitress poured out half a cup of cold coffee for me and then decided to brew a fresh pot and add some hot coffee to cold stuff already in my cup. The place was mostly empty, even so, each table had creamers on it which were warm and had obviously been sitting out all morning. When my gf's food came, her salad was partially frozen and looked like it had been sitting in the fridge for at least a day. Our meals were less than spectacular. A lot of fries, but a rather small sandwich stuffed mainly with lettuce. The gf couldn't finish her unpleasant order of fish. After paying 30$ (after tax) for these meals, we won't be going back here.
