Fresh Slice4140 Hastings, Burnaby
Don't Bother, Unless there's nowhere else open
Submitted Wednesday, April 1, 2009 - 6:09pm [Dine in]

I have tried Fresh Slice in Burnaby (Hastings St) a couple of times now. I live in the area, and decided to try it out. Honestly, for pizza it's not good at all. It's pretty tasteless, and the slices are small. The crust has no flavor, as well as the toppings. But, since I feel that I know my pizza, it's the crust that's the most important in a pizza. You definately get what you pay for here. There are better places in the neighborhood, for only a few pennies more, and believe me, it's worth the extra money to go elsewhere. Franchise pizza places are never any good. They are strictly a business, and don't care about quality.

The inside is alright. It's bright (too bright), with only a handful of seats. They expect everyone to take the pizza out, i suppose. Parking is a pain, so it's best if you're walking by. All in all, again, I would rather eat pizza someplace else.

Yummy Pizza Slices for only $1.99. Cheescake to Die For, and Really Good Coffee. Nice Place!

I was in the neighborhood, and noticed this new place has opened up recently. I tried a few of their slices (no pun intended!), and was amazed at the taste of the pizza. Finally, there is a quality product in Burnaby. The toppings and ingredients are very fresh. The crust had was so good with awesome sauce (not like the sour Ragu stuff other places use). The prices are VERY REASONABLE w/ great specials. I ended up ordering an X-Large pizza to go for the family at home. It took only about 10 minutes.

I thought the place was very nice and inviting. It was real clean inside, has a customer washroom and had nice decor. I was enjoying watching some of the Canucks Game on the Big Screen TV. Nice to have a place for good cheap eats, where you can catch a game. Lots of Delicious Deserts. The owner told me that they will be getting a liquor license soon, and that means Beer with my pizza! Can't Wait!

The owner was very friendly, and cheerful. I give the service an A+. There's lots of parking at the rear of the restaurant, if you're driving over. They don't take Debit or Credit Cards, so make sure you have some Cash on you. Good Thing I did.

Good Pho...Horrible & Rude Service...Unclean Place
Submitted Monday, December 22, 2008 - 10:32pm [Dine in]

Been here several times. I feel that the Pho is pretty good. Better than than Pho Hoa down the street. It's a nicer place in here, although it could be cleaner. Their washrooms need definate attention.

I don't understand what is wrong with the people that run this place. Why have a business, especially a restaurant of all things, if you're going to be rude to your customers and never check on their table. They never offer you anything, or ask if you need anything else.

The place is alright inside. The price is reasonable. But like the last reviewer mentioned - they need a whole staff makeover. It's obviously a family-run business.

Treehouse Pub, The2099 Lougheed Highway, Port Coquitlam
Great Specials. Good food. Big Portions. Great Service
Submitted Saturday, September 6, 2008 - 4:20am [Dine in]

I can honestly say that I can't complain about this place. I frequent the Treehouse at least once a month. The food is always good, and better than any other pub/grill that I've been too in the Lower Mainland. Seems to me that there is a lot of attention to detail for a place like this when it comes to the food. The portions are way bigger than anywhere else that I've seen. This is why I always return. Their menu has quite a variety. The service has always been great and friendly with nice younger women serving (unlike the competitors). I like watching football games here (lots of screens) and good specials. There's even a liquor store outside.

There's nothing I can complain about with this place. It's nice and clean inside. They have good drink specials. Half price appetizers during "happy hour". It is a little hidden (Shaugnessey & Lougheeed Hwy area) but on the north side of lougheed just east of Shaughnessey. My friends and I will always return. Keep it up Treehouse!

Grove Inn Restaurant1047 Denman Street, Vancouver
Cheap Prices, Large Menu Choice, Good Portions, & Good Food
Submitted Monday, May 19, 2008 - 1:47am [Dine in]

Two of my friends and I tried this place last night. Considering it was 8:30pm, it was fairly busy. We were attracted to the All-Day Breakfasts specials advertised on the windows and on the sandwich board outside the restaurant. For a full breakfast for around $4.00, you can't go wrong.

We all tried the breakfasts, and they were very good. Well made, good portions, and fresh. This restaurant has a full Japanese menu as well as a full North American menu. The food is incredibly cheap for what you get. They don't cheap out on the portions or the quality. Service is nothing to brag about, as they only seemed to have one server for the whole place. It's not a small place, and it's fairly clean, and more modern than one would expect. They have full entree menu items for less than $11.00 (Steaks, ect.). Burgers start at around $4.50 with fries or whatever else. Drinks are cheap ($4.00 for a beer).

We were all impressed and all said that we will be back. Believe me that we are quite picky when it comes to an eatery, and we know our food and restaurants. Finally, there's a place downtown that can satisfy a group or a couple of people, since there's a great variety of menu items to choose from. Haven't we all been in a situation where one of wants sushi, and the other definately doesn't? Well, at this place, it's the perfect compromise.

Recommended.

Good Service - The Food is Bland and Not Good or Authentic, so Don't Bother!
Submitted Friday, April 25, 2008 - 12:37am [Dine in]

We decided to try this restaurant, as we were in the neighborhood, and had read the great reviews about this place. Man, was I disappointed.

First of all, the service is very good. Very polite, and personable waiter. The wine selection was very limited, and mainly had very cheap wine ($10.00 Bottle for 1 L in a store) @ $6.00/glass. The prices are very reasonable and the portion size is pretty good. The ambiance is plain, but clean, and very small (seats maybe 15 people). If this place was any good, there would be line-ups everyday considering the size of this place.

The quality of the food is where I experienced the major disappointments. We ordered two complete different types of pasta. Both were VERY BLAND, and were obviously stingy with the ingredients (spices, meat, ect), yet were drowned in sauce (a major no-no to an Italian). I can and have made way better pasta myself. The food is NOT AUTHENTIC at all. The pasta dishes here tasted exactly as if they were thrown together without much thought or care (like eating Pasta at Cactus Club, or somewhere unauthentic like that). The pasta dishes do not come with Garlic Bread, or any other bread or buns. Nice to know after I ordered. The owner and cook not Italian and I wouldn't care about that, but from what I read previously, I expected authentic food. The owner comes out to greet everyone and asks how the food was. Do you really want me to tell you to your face what I thought about your food?

The fact that the owner goes out of his way to ask about the food everytime to all his customers shows the lack of confidence in his cooking, and his knowledge that the food SUCKS (pardon my french).

All of the customers were people that obviously know nothing about Italian food. They all liked the food, but were most likely used to eating Chef Boyardee. SAVE YOUR MONEY AND GO SOMEWHERE ELSE. Anton's is 10 times better, and only 2 dollars more and at least at Anton's you get bread (unlimited) with your meal. The food at Anton's for example has tons of flavour, unlike this "restaurant."

In closing, I am pretty upset with the past reviews saying that this place has great food and it's authentic. You people are so ignorant, it's unbelievable, and thanks to your useless reviews, I wasted my money here, and was greatly disappointed with the food.

Great Service, Ok Food, Big Portions, & Reasonable Prices!
Submitted Sunday, February 17, 2008 - 6:01am [Dine in]

A buddy and I tried this place yesterday for lunch, as we were in the area and hungry. I've read reviews on this site regarding this restaurant and thought I would try it out.

We each ordered a Dinner Combo ($8.45 - $9.50) which gave us 3 items each. The portions were huge. Each combo was enough for 2 people. We couldn't finish it, and we're both guys with big appetites.

What amazed me most about his place was the fellow who owns/works there. He was very courteous and attentive to all the customers. Great Service. This was unusual for a chinese restaurant, but was a pleasant surprise. Inside the restaurant was quite clean. The decor was nothing special, but it had a nice cozy, comfortable feel to it.

This restaurant is obviously not aimed to attract other Chinese customers. The menus are strictly in english, there's 103.5 FM playing in the background, and the food is very westernized (food court type fare but better quality). The service is great, with good english skills applied. Why the heck can't other chinese restaurant be like this? It's not hard. The owner here actually regards this restaurant as a business and understands the importance of good service and attitude.

The food does taste as if it has NO MSG, and we didn't suffer any stomach aches, or other side effects from MSG. The food was alright, rather bland (due to lack of MSG?), but it was not greasy as a previous poster mentioned. If you're someone who doesn't know real chinese food, or doesn't care whether it's authentic or not, then this is THE place. The prices are reasonable, and the portions are huge. The food was fresh, and decent tasting. I recommend this place and I will be a returning customer.

A place with great food, and good portions
Submitted Tuesday, February 5, 2008 - 5:33am [Dine in]

My buddy and I went to try this restaurant yesterday, after reading the reviews. I must say that I always drive by it, and never thought about going there. I've seen all the cars parked outside, and noticed that they're always busy for dinner, at least.

I have been to many chinese restaurants. I only like the "real" chinese food, not the westernized stuff. This place is definately authentic. I have a saying "If you don't see a lot of Chinese people in a chinese restaurant, it won't be good." Well this place was packed, and most customers were Chinese - a good sign.

We ordered a few dishes, and were impressed with the quality, flavor, and the portion. They gave a lot of meat in each dish, as opposed to other chinese restaurants. The prices were reasonable. The service was a little better than most chinese restaurants, but the servers never checked on our table after our food arrived. The ambiance was nothing special, but at least it wasn't dirty. The place could use more windows, allowing better street exposure - which it lacks.

If you're in the Tri-City area, then definately try this place out. It's probably the best chinese restaurant in the area. I will be back.

I can honestly say that I like this place. The wings are great. The drinks are good, and the prices are very reasonable. They have tons of parking outside, and great service.

This is a great local pub in the Tri-Cities area, and is quite the popular place to be! Nice looking girls, nice looking servers!
