Lumiere2551 W. Broadway, Vancouver
service issues

We recently went here are part of a culinary trip to Vancouver. After hearing so much about Lumiere we wanted to do it right. Unfortunately we could not get into the dining room and were forced to settle for the tasting bar.

Although the staff were friendly I have to say that when I tried to send back the muscles because they were undercooked the server argued with me. I showed that the shells were not open and he sarcastically said he would show the kitchen. He then came back and apologized.

This put off our entire meal, as you expect service to be at par with the reputation. I think this is an exception as most of our friends have nothing but good things to say. I think next time we will wait for the dining room and things should be different.

We liked the space and the rest of the food was excellent.

We have since had a much better experience at Feenies next door.

We ended up at Fuel by chance after missing our reservation at the restaurant next door (oops). After being sat at the bar we ended up right in the middle of a great time. The kitchen staff were super friendly and helped us decide what to eat. Foie Gras to start and veal for the main. Both fantastic. My wife had sablefish which she loved. Desert was also great with a guinness and ice cream mix and amazing macaroons. Fun presentations but even more fun just being there. I wouldn't exactly compare it to a sushi bar feel because there is just so much more going on but it is definitely unique. Even though we were from out of town they treated us like regulars. Will make the trip over for another visit soon.
