good view for a milk cow
Submitted Saturday, August 23, 2014 - 2:07pm [Dine in]

The food is Terrible the worst fish tacos I've ever had an inch of greedy fried fat with no fish in one and a sliver of an anchovies inside the other blob of fried fat. Add the 2.10 for a can of pop and the tourist trap is set. The owner must see this as a cash cow rather than providing good food. Hiring 6 young ladies could be the other motive eating his or her profits. Bottom line food terrible pack a lunch. Even the chicken tenders weren't good and over fried. I recommend less cash cow and more chef training

Blossoming sushi
Submitted Friday, September 20, 2013 - 6:44pm [Dine in]

Watch out Damiko, Mori sushi might move into number one. The food was a small touch pricier than I would like to see but on par with damiko. The ambiance is excellent . Innovative blossoming trees and traditional style seating. The food tasted very good. I would like to see bento boxes on the dinner menu at around 14$ chirashi would also be better at 13.95 I would order it at that price but not at 17$ however, the ambiance is very nice. I very rarely eve say that about any restaurant. I would say its equivalent to Japanese food as Olive Garden is to Italian in terms of Decore.

I've got my eye on this restaurant as its a hidden gem which I'm sure will soon have a line up out the door.

Ban Chok Dee-liscious .

I reviewed this restaurant in 2012 and it had some issues. It wasn't great for brining kids in terms of wait time.

I have given ban Chok Dee-Liscious another try and am very glad I did.

I have a toddler and they managed to take our order ,have our food to us, eat ,paid and ready to be on our way in 45 minutes. I noted there were lots of couples on dates so they are also likely sensitive to you wanting to take your time and enjoy the romantic moment.

The food was delicious and prepared to order..ie. no spice on the dish I asked for no spice and medium spice for my wife who likes her food spicy.

The Thai sticky rice was great.

The greeter, usher really made a Thai impression complete with a perfect Thai Smile.....you will have to visit for yourself to figure out what I mean by this.

If you like Thai food or would like to try something different this is definitely a good option:)

I overheard one table had driven in from chilliwack for the food and were very happy they had.

Thank you to the Management and Ownership for having worked on this and turned it into a Gem. It's definitely worth the drive and an asset to our community.

Thank you

2 Can Dine 1 WILL go hungry
Submitted Saturday, January 12, 2013 - 7:38am [Dine in]

let me start with Swiss Chalet has been a family traditon in our family for three generations. Its the family joke thatthe patriarch of our family used to always leave letting the customers in the lobby know that they should try the chicken.....

Well this year its time to address what I would say is an inconsistent dinning experience. In December we went and had thefestive special... which was great. lots of food great value, chocolates AND a coupon for 2 ca dine for $14.99. usully the coupon is only good from monday to thursday and many years in a row I get tricked into going on a friday thinking my coupon will work and once I'm already committed and sitting at the table I'm told the fine print says monday to thursday. its not like I will leave at that point so we order our dinners anyways.

This year the coupon for 2 can dine for 14.99 works seven days a week! Eureka.

one small poblem. The two quarter Chicken dinners that were served to us were more like 2 quarter quail dinners or 2 quarter chicklet dinners. the quarter chicken dinner that is being placed on the table for those who present a coupon is seriously reduced from the usual quarter chicken dinner. I had invited another family to come and enjoy dinner with us and luckily they were busy because chances are they would have never returned to Swiss Chalet had the had dinner with us last night. at 14.99$ for 2 of these quarter chicken dinners I have to day that even at 14.99 for 2 dnners it was a rip off.

Swiss Chalet has a great promotion in December which bilds customer loyalty. its surprising and too bad that they let all the hard work in december get destroyed with such a terrible experience in January and February.

once I had finished my chicken which took literally 4 pokes with my fork, I thought to myself hmmm I should have taken a picture of that because it really was impessive how apparent it was that Swiss Chalet was skimping on quality and quantity. Its like they have a whole seperate set of chicken pieces set aside for the 2 can dine promotion... so.... we likely wont be back to Swiss Chalet until next December to enjoy the Festive Special and next year I will probably take the 2 can dine promotion and give them back to the waitress letting her know its not worth our time and effort...

Swiss Chalet's new motto.....

"Swiss Chalet.... Great once a year !"

My prayers have been answered.
Submitted Wednesday, September 19, 2012 - 12:51pm [Dine in]

I used to live in Downtown Vancouver with easy access to Shawarma restaurants on davie and denman. When I moved to the Burbs one of the things I missed was some of the food which wasnt nearly as prevalent or tasty as it was in the Downtown Core. Recently I spoted this Falafel place and introduced it to some friends who live in Vancouver and I'm proud to say that they now travel to Langley every few weeks just to enjoy the Shawarma plates. I've had the Chicken and the Lamb Shwarma and although they dont have quite the same tahini based sauce as the Falafel King did on Denman, it is amazingly deliscious and I definitly get my fix of Shawarma craving satisfied each time I have ordere food here. I've ordered to-go and was pleasantly surprised with the quality of the food, Same for the dine in experience. The restaurant is clean and I encourage any fraser Valley residents to enjoy some of the food here. Yes it does look like it is gearing up to try and do a franchise and it certainly provides a healthy alternative. I read the history of the place and I believe the owner used to run one of the Falafel places in Downtown Vancouver which explains the good tasting food ! :) We have eatne here three times in the past 2 months and have been happy with all three experiences. :) Thank-you. to get there you get out at the 264 street exit off hwy 1 and then head north. pull into the Mc Donald's area and then drive around the back of McD's and you will find some parking. :)

It’s not just the Sandwich that’s Obscene
Submitted Saturday, February 19, 2011 - 10:48pm [Dine in]

Ok I know you could take it to go. But you would be depriving yourself of a half hour of someone who actually kept his commitment to running his business his way and avoiding the cookie cutter business that leaves everything white washed. He isn’t intimidating. He will test each "adult" customer one at a time and give them just about as much banter as he feels appropriate. Your only real choice is basically the Bread... and maybe you might get to choose the hot sauce or not. The rest is up to him. At least that’s how it was for the hour I spent there today. I bought two sandwiches for my wife and I. We ate one there and took the other monster home. I threw it onto the digital scale because it seriously is obscene and it weighed in at 2 lbs. 2 ounces. or 970 grams... A kilo..... He himself would agree the Lebanese always like to sell a good Kilo or two..... The actual environment is a mix between your neighbour’s garage that hasn’t been tidied up in a while (papers and boxes a bit everywhere) and a delicatessen.. His reaction would probably be something like. Who Cares? Did you come here for a Sandwich? or did you come here to ( insert offer to provide or receive whatever X-rated activity he hasn’t had in the past 20 minutes). While I was there he had French CBC turned on very quietly which says a lot about the guy.. Its not just his sandwiches that have depth he is a character as well. I think next time I go I'm going to order a Vegetarian Sandwich and see what I get.

I still have a smile on my face from this refreshing experience. Bring Cash and exact change otherwise you may not get out of there for a long time as he doesn’t like to handle money too often as he has a steady line of demand for sandwiches.. its almost like a military operation and he is the Sandwich Machine gun.

oh one final think. Don’t forget your manners. Please and Thank-yous are a must from the customers He may have a dirty mouth but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t have manners ;)

Merci Habibi.

The location isnt great I must have drove by this place hundred's of times but I decided to FIND it given the great reviews here. The interior decore is ok lots of room to sit on the weekend. I got 3 sandwiches to go and they were all deliscious! The quality of the ingredients was really good and the service was pretty fast. I'd eat here again for lunch.

Innovative Perogi Sandwiches
Submitted Friday, December 11, 2009 - 3:05pm [Dine in]

When I got my club sandwich it looked like an enormous Perogi Sandwich. IT tasted pretty good and luckily it was for takeout. I went to check it out specifically because it was getting such good rating on Dine Here .Ca and when I got there I was thinking to myself.. really? this place? great reviews???? It looks like something out of the 70's and wasnt really Ukrainian themed there were Ukrainian things on the walls and stuff but I've been to the Ukrainian village outside Edmonton AB and this didn't make me think anything inspiring.. The food was tasty and as a lunch it was a good choice but I'd get your stuff to go... its in an odd location designed in an odd way sandwiched inside a semi industrial / warehouse area and looks like the space is being used as a restaurant as an after thought but could easily also be used as a thrift shop / old furniture shop with about 5 mins of work . Bottom line. Good food. Service was friendly..... get it to go...

This place is huge and its usually pretty full but we never wait too long to eat here. Lots of loaves of bread and then the steak is always cooked perfectly when i ask for medium rare. the value is great considering you get bread pasta, coffee and ice cream included in the price. The Manager Eric is always very responsive to helping the wait staff when theres a bit of extra need for service.

My wife and have been here many times, usually the service is really good and the foor is slightly above average... this weekend the service took a nose dive. we were sat at our table and the waitress proceeded to serve other table next to us that had been seated after we arrived. it was like we were in a little invislbe bubble or something.. after 10 minutes of this and 2 sets of couples that had been seated after us having their order taken we left .

Charm and deliscious
Submitted Saturday, August 30, 2008 - 6:39pm [Dine in]

This hybrid coffee shop / restaurant / bookstore is a great place to hang out and people watch. In the summer theres a mosquito issue which is the only reason i didnt give it more for ambiance. The food is really good and the sweets like cakes and cookies are fantastic. If what I've been told is accurate the restauant is owned by two ladies who are chefs and I cant confirm they put their heart and soul into the food they made at this restaurant. Most people just get a coffee and overlook the restaurant food on the menue which is a mistake because the dishes and specials I've eaten here rival any fine dinning experience. Add to this the charming village of Fort Langley to walk through afterwards and you have a great afternoon of relaxing. I've known groups of tourist to drive 70-80 kms to visit Fort Langley and cap the event off at Wendells which can easily sit 30 - 40 people.

Bazaar is agood description. a bit of this that and the other mishmashed... picture deli style restaurant perched inside a grocery store. The food is very tasty and although it suffers from long lineups its worth it. I recently noticed that the prices on most chicken lamb and beef dishes have jumped by 2 or 3 $ a meal but its still deliscious and the fact that a lot of Iranians eat there is a testament to the good authentic flavors. The staff is friendly and will help you in English. What most non Iranians often miss is that you need to take the bread from the basket near the cash register for your meal as it is included and each meal also comes with a pop or water included which are waiting for you in a beverage fridge just to the right of the cash register. These 2 additional things help bring the value into the picture when you eat here. if your new to this restaurant order the kebob and rise or kebob and salad with a pop and bread and for 8$ you will see why this is great value for the money.

Although the food was deliscious it was very mini in portions. like taking a page out of a comedy where the waiter brings you 2 spears of asparagus drapped over 3 coin sized slices of meat this wasnt much different . just add 1 coin and remove 1 piece of asparagus and fit both of them over a butter tart sized quiche and voila. The decore is tired and you sense that the carpets and tables and chairs havent been changed in a decade. perhaps in part because this restaurant at least at its current location will soon come to pass with the port authority closing the books on this menue. where will they move too ??? or will they? In the end, I think its one of those restaurants everyone goes to once.... but few return over and over unless your making 200 000 a year working on the docks below for a business meeting provided on the company books. Was the food deliscious? YES. could I have gone to dinner at a graet restauraunt 4 times for the same money.? yes. I have an eye for detail at times and the ambiance is significantly improved by the low lights and the water view.. the actual restaurant looks tired ( upstairs) when you pay close attention. It is a landmark of Vancouver dinning but certainly not one of its pillars.

Having been to France and Provence I have a finely tuned taste for authentic french fare. Being French also helps. Although the owner isnt french I wont hold this against the place. I've only enjoyed the back part of this Resto the boulangeri area where they sell sandwhiches and pastries and all three times I enjoyed the steak and blue cheese Baguette. I wish I had a restauraunt like this in Vancouver or Langley where I live I'd be there daily. (I'd also be 400 lbs but hey) in any case, I highly enjoy their steak and bluecheese baguette and would love to encourage the owner to open un bon rouge in Vancouver or near Langley. A bientot les amis.

Even with 40 minute waits outside this place is a lot of fun. It should score higher but what makes this place special isnt any one thing but rather all of them together. the live music. the good food... It is tight for seating and the line up for 40 minutes outside doesnt usually add to the experience but overall its my prefered place to eat when in Victoria the food is deliscious and the music is good too... You really dont feel like the cost of the entertainment is built into the food.. the restauraunt would be excellent with just the food but the added live music is what makes it that extra special plaec.

Everything on this menue is good value for the price. There ar eonly a few recommendations I would make. Bring back Kosher Weiners and bring over the lobster tail sandwhich. Aside from this all the food is good value. sometimes wish they had a healthy choice on the menu. the best deal going is obviously the hotdog and pop for 2 bucks. in the U.S.A they have wraps which would be a nice added touch. the chicken fingers are also tasty but not that healhty. but hey neither are most other fast food places. I cant speak for the Pizza so maybe someone else can review that but the Poutine is pretty good too .

my personal preference for Best is in Abbotsford on clearbrook but if you arent into driving 30 minutes from Langley this is definitly very tasty and yummy. I ordered the 38A veggies with prawns.. and black been sauce with rice. my wife ordered curry something or other.... we both really enjoyed what we had. I ordered the same dish for take out today and my only complaint is it was a little smaller than the version they serve when you sit down... but that being said the version you get when you sit in is really big :) could feed 2 people easily. :) very tasty.. We drove by this restaurant for years because from the outside it looks terrible with its little castle type entrance and no windows.. once inside it is clean and the food is very good. so its a definite must visit.

Anythingelse would be better
Submitted Sunday, August 10, 2008 - 4:15am [Dine in]

It has taken over a year for this deserved review to make its way here. My wife and I went here a year ago and it was the worst eat out experience ever. I used to go to Moxie's in Edmonton by kingsway and used to enjoy it. The managment need to be canned at the Langley version. We ordered our meal and like others have mentioned part of the menue wasnt available.. then after 45 minutes of waiting for our meal the waitress comes out and appologizes and says she forgot to put our order out to the kitchen... "but dont worry I'll put your on rush" 30 minutes later my meal comes out and my wife's is no where to be found... we wait another 20 minutes for hers and as a gentleman i wait... now mine is cold and hers tastes like it was made in a rush.. not good at all.... we also order some calamari which is something i usually really like,. in this case it was very cold and soft. when i questioned the staff they said thats how they serve it at Moxies. when i spoke to the management about the worst restaurant experience i had ever had ( we eat out 4 times a week on average) they said they would give my wife a free desert as an appology. she chose the chocolate cake to go..... we took a styrofoam container home and when we opened it there was 1/2 a browny in it. 2 bytes worth of a brownie.. I repeat. this has been the worst dinning experience either of us have ever had and if we can spare other people from the sadness of eating here all the better. 1 star is too many but they didnt let me rate 0 stars... I will end on a positive note.. the washrooms were elegant and the LCD tv's on the walls in front of the urinals were amusing. too bad the same attention to detail has been lost on the food and the service.....
