Kobe Japanese Steak House1042 Alberni Street, Vancouver
fun

My new boyfriend took me here...his favourite place, we used an entertainment book coupon worth $34 and the bill was still $120, i had the steak and chicken and he had the lobster, steak and scallops. When we return, and we will, with friends, i will stick with the seafood, i couldnt finish my steak, and would have spit out more then 3 bites if i wasnt being watched by everyone around me...too much grissle. the chicken was chicken, not worth the money, but my bf's lobster and scallops were insanely good - we recently tried both at the boathouse and i must admit Kobes was WAY better! I definately would not go here before heading out for the night as the smell of grease leaves lingered in my hair and clothes all night. I had to make an effort not to think about the smoke and grease at some points as it was so thick it felt as though i was suffocating. the drinks were slow, although i don't know why, considering that is where they try to make the most money, with a fruity drink being over $10. The ambience is the reason you return. We were seated with all couples and the kirin and sake was flying as well as Fried rice and shitake mushrooms, all ordered and shared by our generous table dweller to be shared with everyone. Felt like we were all friends by the time dinner was done, we were lucky tho as the other table had an unhappy couple seated with a young group of 6 girls. Its not a place you can linger at after eating as they move you out quickly, you can move downstairs to the lounge, but then again, why would you want to when the drinks are so slow and expensive. Go eat and leave take a walk in the fresh air afterwards, and you are ready for the next fresh air lounge. I will return for the shitake mushrooms and lobster/scallops and will try to fill whole table with friends. Given the negative its still a place i will return. Its original and a vancouver legend...

come on people!

Wow, have been frequenting upscale restaurants, one amonth to get some gourmet in my life, but cannot get past sanafir, have done the glowbal's, cannerys, 1827, but sanafir keeps drawing me back. I guess i like the ambience, coming all the way from valley, getting a sitter, parking... i have to make it worth my while...and sanafir does that. both times i have been have been great, first so much so, brought people from out of town and was not disappointed - i didnt make reservations but they seated us at the 500 dollar table as long as we were out by the reserved time, we were, with time to spare, service was great, food was orgasmic, i just love the trio of desserts - died and gone to heave with each different taste explosion. weekend was fun seeing the parties at the beds, other then having to sit on the floor the second time, which in itself was fun, the overall sanafir experience is one i will share with more friends/couples, although i would not bring only my beau there as he would leave hungry - and it is more about the sharing of plates of everyone and drinking not so much intimate conversation and food. great place before we went to queen e for show, love the martinis, fun to walk out the door onto the closed granville street and hit the next place without having to waddle or huff because you just ate too much cheap pasta in heavy cream sauce, or half a cow....

if you like tapas and you love good food you will love 1827. no it is not pile what cheap pasta and cream sauce you can in a bowl type of restaurant. if you want cheap food and lots of it - dont come here - but if you want gourmet cuisine, in small normal human weight portions then come here. split 3 tapas and have a martini and you will be comfortably full, what you should be - not distended, undoing your pants....as most people seem to desire. I had the chicken pick up sticks? - the sauce was crazy good - the risotto balls - little orgamsic balls of pleasure - the hawaiian rubbed fish - the salad garnish was even to die for, if i could have licked the plate i would have. the martini choices is great. i had a lime one with dinner - perfect tartness to compliment richness of risotto balls, then for dessert had the pbj martini - was like having a peanut butter and jam sandwich for dessert. went with an old high school friend -just two good girlfriends laughing, drinking and sharing plates - had a phenomenol time and laughed when the piano player played "time after time" by cindy lauper - "our song" we laughed, needless to say the ambience is great for our purpose, to catch up and laugh and talk, but also you could see the romantic twos and the couples (3 to a big booth) filling the restaurant - they also were having a great time sharing the "sharing plates". Highly recommend for those wanting good food, good drinks and good time, dont recommend for those looking for a tv and a pound of chicken wings. great to start an evening as you dont feel full and bloated and sluggish after you leave, would be great before a movie or theatre, etc.

Best green beans in black bean sauce

Although restaurant needs an overhaul, let's take the plastic off the seats shall we? and the tables need to be better wiped, I appreciated the huge lazy susan on the table that you can put food on and turn to the next person, very handy! the staff is attentive and obviously care if you come back, or like the food...which by the way is the best chinese food in langley! And yes, I have been a true Bamboo Palace fan for 30 years now (changing their name to chop chops?) but recently was subjected to Dragon Palace and have not turned back, unfortunately they do not deliever over the freeway, and since i livin in cloverdale i have to settle for eat in only, but will have to stick to bamboo for delivery - which is good too - but sorry, not as good as dragon (and bamboo doesnt even have green beans on the menu BTW, SNOW PEAS ARE NOT GREEN BEANS!) will definately return to dragon whenever possible!
