Very disappointed

I made reservations 2 days in advance. When the 3 of us girls arrived at the restaurant it was quite empty, this was on a Friday night around 7 p.m. We had to wait for the waitress to ask a guitar player sitting at one of the tables to move. This table was the worst table in the restaurant and with folding chairs and this is where we were seated. No other tables had the folding chairs. When I mentioned if we could sit elsewhere were we told that all the other tables have been reserved . I asked my friends if they would like to go elsewhere but we decided to stay. Not soon had we arrived the band started playing which by the way was only a feet away from our table. So trying to have a conversation was okay when it was just the band playing ,but when the singer started singing it was pretty much impossible to have a conversation. It was hard to enjoy the entertainment as we were trying to have our dinner too.

The restaurant is very small and did fill up quite quickly. One couple started dancing in the aisle and then there were a group of girls that decided to do the same. There is no designated dance floor. Because of where we were seated, near the band, some of the dancers kept on bumping into my friends chair and made it very uncomfortable for her. Some of the girls had their glasses of alcohol in their hands while dancing and when one of them finished her drink just decided to leave the empty glass on our table. So disappointed, will not go back again.

I had driven by the restaurant several times, looking forward to trying it out. I was very disappointed with my experience at Boteco Brasil. The restaurant is open till 11 p.m. and I feel the entertainment could have started later in the evening. Unfortunately the food is nothing to brag about.

pleasant

Had a great dinner at Broken Rice. This restaurant has been open for about 6 months. The place is small but nicely decorated .The hostess/owner was quite pleasant and stopped by to chat with the four of us .

We all decided to choose from the dine out Vancouver menu which includes an appetizer, entree and dessert for $28.00 each person. We did not order any alcohol and they were very good at making sure our teapot was always filled.

I loved the Squid Ate the Spring Roll appetizer. The Chicken on Chicken on Curry was quite good and satisfying. The coffee infused panna cotta was very light and nicely garnished with edible pansy and microgreens. The 3 other diners decided to have the Seafood Claypot and enjoyed that very much as well as their deep fried banana with coconut ice cream. All the other dishes that the waiter was bringing to the other tables looked delicious and nicely presented.

We were told this type of food is very traditional Vietnamese food with influences from the French. Broken rice serves the more well known type of Pho during their lunch menu which I will have to come back and try at some other time.

Overall had a very pleasant dining experience at Broken Rice :-)

disappointed

As a group of four women, we were out to celebrate a friends birthday. The place was packed when we arrived at 7:30 p.m. on a Friday night. We were seated right away which was great as we had reservations. This is a very small restaurant and space is very tight. The tables are very close to each other.

I was very disappointed in the way they had gone about serving the cake that we brought to the restaurant. We had presented our friend with the cake and it was in front of her on the table. The waitress then asked us about dessert and explained that they would have to charge each person $2.00 for plate service etc. We didn't really have a problem with the charge except on several occasions we have done the same at other restaurants and there were no charges.

The waitress offered to take the cake and put candles on it and slice and serve us our cake. When she came back with the cake, she did not place the cake in front of the birthday girl, from whom she took the cake, she had placed it in front of me. After the "sparkler" fizzled away, the cake was taken back to the kitchen to be sliced. I was very disappointed in how messy the slicing was and all four pieces were of different thickness. I was waiting for an explanation of what was going to happen with the rest of the cake. When we were finished I asked about the remainder of the cake. I was told that there was only a sliver of cake left and that it was at the front ready for us when we were ready to leave.

When my friends and I were leaving, the cake box was sitting on a table waiting for us. The box was not attended to and the box was wide open, we could see how much of the cake was left. The waitress was right there was only a sliver of cake left. I do not think we were served the entire cake, there should have been at least 1/3 of the cake left. I don't really know what to make of this. It has been on my mind how unprofessional this whole experience at L'Artista has been, considering it is a fine dining restaurant.

It does not matter what the rest of the meal was like with a finish like that. I definitely will not be going back to L'Artista !!

I did not get an apology or satisfaction from talking to the owner the following day.
