Legendary Noodle4191 Main Street, Vancouver
Legendary Indeed

This is a very authentic experience. We always go to the Main Street location. My wife's favourite, they make her a tofu noodle thing that is not on the menu (vegetarian). Heard about this place from a friend of ours who goes there for lunch from work and he speaks to the old lady server (owner) who is from Shanghai like he is. Garlic Pea Shoots are really good. Lots of people talk about the onion pancake but it isn't my favourite. Food is very inexpensive - they should charge more. It's a small place. The portions are big, they can be a bit monotonous if you just have one dish for yourself. Better to share. The old woman doesn't speak english very well or act like a young person so maybe some people want a more customer oriented experience... But she is very kind and will help you or even give you free stuff sometimes if you are a little patient. I'm not sure I want to give a super review since it is already more busy than it use to be and it's so small you have to wait. We did try the Denman location once last summer. I think it is run by the sun. It is decorated a lot more fancy and the prices are a little bit higher (the son doesn't want to just give it away like his parents do we figure) Food was good there too, a little more fancy presentation and they had wine. I can see that if people are expecting more obsequious serivce you would want more but really, are we adults or children? Do we need fawning service? Personally I enjoy servers who are not obviously trying to sell you more and are just there to help. For instance, sometimes at the Main Street one I go and get a ginger ale out of the fridge myself so I don't have to wait. Not a big deal. It is a big doughy meal if you have a sensitive stomach but we just love noodles so to us it is legendary!

My family loves going to this place. It is in walking distance for my grandparents and almost as close for us. The food isn't spectacular but it is always good sized portions and tasty. I wouldn't mind a nicer salad or a bit more diversity of the menu but if you feel like a good steak and potatoes or a nice vegetable pizza this is super. They've always been ver considerate even when booking large groups or showing up late for a reservation. It's a relaxed comfortable place for the family to go to and not have to cook at home. You get a lot of food and its healthy. The desserts aren't great but we generally go home for dessert. Beer is on tap and a good price especially on certain days (Monday, I think, but I could be wrong). I would give a higher number rating except the words don't match. I'd say 4/5 but I wouldn't say outstanding. Its just solid and reliable, which is actually quite an outstanding thing to have in the neighbourhood.
