Kisamos Greek Taverna3420 Moncton Street, Richmond
Yes, highly over-rated!
Submitted Wednesday, November 21, 2007 - 10:23pm [Dine in]

The calamari was good, tender, tasty, but the plate could have been served with less amounts of onions!

The lamb came doused with a sauce of some sort, this is highly irregular of any lamb dish to come with any type of sauce covering it, I wasn't thrilled by the experience, however they were polite to replace the portion with another, the waitress explained that it was an "au jus" poured over the lamb, most of my Greek friends would "scowl" over a sauce poured on a fine piece of lamb, a tad salty, perhaps it was the au jus!

When the restaurant gets busy, it gets loud, and it can ruin a romantic dinner for two.

My rating is a 2 out of 5.

Not the same!
Submitted Saturday, November 10, 2007 - 11:36am [Dine in]

I still have that "garage feel" when I go to this Milestone's.

Friendly face at the door, friendly face taking the order, but don't call for after-order service, they seem to get "edgy"!

Not much to say, overall experience was just that!

There are so many places to eat now, so I'm going elsewhere for my money!

Good food, good prices!
Submitted Saturday, November 10, 2007 - 11:19am [Dine in]

I used to frequent Bentei Sushi a few years ago, and when I'm in the area I don't pass by without picking up a small order to-go.

The staff are friendly and courteous, that's a "bonus" in the food business. The prices compare with other sushi restaurants in the Burnaby area.

I've always enjoyed the food, the Ikura (Salmon Roe) are bubbling with taste, the Dynamite Rolls are proportionally sized, the Tuna melts in your mouth.

Try it!

Kilala Sushi Bar4749 East Hastings Street, Burnaby
Not Bad - There are better!
Submitted Saturday, November 10, 2007 - 11:11am [Dine in]

So, I've heard some hype about this tightly tucked away sushi bar on Hastings, and I've had this hunger for sushi for the past 2 days, I could have gone to another place that I enjoy, but this place is 10 minutes or less from where I live.

Got to the sushi bar about 6:50pm, gave my order, and by the way, I had to pay for the food when I ordered... just so I wouldn't take off on them! I guess it was because I had to wait 35-40 minutes to have my order at my table, and they didn't want to lose the business, if that's the case... I was more than dissapointed.

The presentation was good, no doubt about that. I found the rice in the overall menu to be somewhat sticky, and the Ikura (Salmon Roe) didn't dance in my mouth. There was way too much Wasabi in the sushi pieces, which is "overkill"!

My overall experience was "decent" to say the least, though I wouldn't go out of my way to head back there. Now, I did notice one thing, more takeout orders are given, so the emphasis on quality may be on the takeout.

Re: The Theme is Cold

You may have had an unusual experience on a particular off-day. It's not as bad as you've written about, but it sure was a better "Dragon Inn" restaurant during the 70's and part of the 80's!

Always make a point of going for Dim Sum on a Saturday or Sunday, and never arrive before 11:30am, 'cause the same food circles around before this time. If the cooks aren't on time to work, the staff just prepare the steamed dishes. You can always ask for dishes that aren't being rolled on the cart.

Try it again!

Capitol Hill Szechuan5527 East Hastings, Burnaby
Decent Szechuan restaurant!
Submitted Sunday, November 4, 2007 - 11:30pm [Dine in]

It was the best Szechuan restaurant around the Capitol Hill area at one time. The food had "zing" and blasted the customer with taste, there was "clinging" and "clanging" in the kitchen, and the cooks looked like they enjoyed making the food.

Those days seem to have been somewhat fazed out... Sure, if you're a working person and you're pressed for time, it's still decent, though there aren't enough "zings" in the meal anymore, and the Szechuan spice is long gone, as is the original owner.

Time and improvement may tell a better story. The new staff have to "smile" a bit more.

China Express - Meal Deal

Overall experience was satisfactory, read on.

The freshest food comes out at noon on weekdays. If you happen to stop by after work, and decide to pick-up some food for take-out chances are the proprietor will heap you loads of food in the container, and you may think "jackpot"!

I've found some of the food to have been re-fried on occassion. Watch out for the quantity of rice over other foods of substance. Not bad for take-out, though there are other Chinese restaurants that will prepare food fresh for just a little longer of a wait.

I usually like to give the local restaurants a try, and figuring it was in my neighbourhood, all the more reason. The service was good and the ambiance was pleasing, the music was a tad loud, and dulled our conversation.

The portions of food were too expensive for what we received, not good if you're a hearty eater. Decent is what I'd say for my overall experience.

Would I go there again? Probably not! There are more reasonably priced restaurants in the neighbourhood.
