A nice Valantine's dinner
Submitted Wednesday, February 15, 2012 - 10:17am [Dine in]

We went early as, having been here before, we're aware there are service issues when the place is busy.
We just had lots of appies. All were fresh and tasty and priced fairly. The atmosphere is upbeat with Greek music and sports on tv. Service was very friendly but only mediocre and rated only two stars but I gave it three due to the apparent overwhelming rush of the Valantines crowd. When we left at 7:30 the place was jammed, the waitresses virtually at a run and the customers in for a long liesurely dinner, whether they liked it or not.

After driving by often I finally tried this place and am happy I did. The people are super friendly and attentive.
Had the seafood hot chilli soup and it was extremely good. Everything was fresh and plentiful with a good amount of spicy. I'll be coming here more often than the pho places.

It was ok
Submitted Tuesday, November 29, 2011 - 5:36pm [Dine in]

We liked the atmosphere with lots of people and action all around. The servers were efficient, pleasant and attractive. But it seems many of these clone like places are fashioned after each other because, if it works, why change it. Attractive girls in short skirts. What's not to like? The food for one and the prices. $15 for a hamburger that was just not good. Greasy onion rings. I actually couldn't eat them and I eat anything. A tiny but pretty good sandwich. Yam fries and caesar salad were ok. Three people for lunch. Two cocktails, one appie, 2 burgers and a sandwich for a total of $92 all in. Merely passable food for that kind of money, no matter the pleasant surroundings, is not conducive to a return visit. Given the crowd though, I don't think they'll miss us.

The value really is outstanding if you have the $10 coupon from the local newspaper otherwise it may be too expensive ie $13-$15 for a hamburger and fries. But what a great burger. The meat was first class and my wife's chicken burger as good a breast of chicken as she's had. Clearly they buy the best. The wedge fries are huge steak cut and reminded me of what fries should be. You get enough for two people but I ate all mine. The best I've had in years. The waitress was pleasant and attentive. Music was great. Even without the coupon I would definitely return but with it this is as good a value as you'll get anywhere.

Has this place changed hands?
Submitted Sunday, November 6, 2011 - 10:59am [Dine in]

Ordered a medium pizza and got a small one. They punched it in wrong. There was only one other couple in the restaurant so how this happened I don't know. The upside was the pizza was not at all as we remember. It was burned and tasteless. The crust was inedible. The lasagna was ok but had virtually no cheese which is the essence of lasagna. Both were expensive compared to other places. There's no point in coming here again. Too bad, it used to be great.

Enjoyed the floorshow
Submitted Wednesday, September 28, 2011 - 4:38pm [Dine in]

Like many have said the portions are large. Costs per standard dim sum item are about $4 or so. Food was mostly good but some items lacked a little taste and flavour. Service was ok. The best part was when I went to pay the bill. The infamous surley manager/owner was there. She was a hoot. When she finely saw me she looked right through me chewing her lunch with her mouth so wide open I thought it was some kind of pantomime. She never spoke even though I tried to engage her in conversation. Her countance was of anger and dismissiveness as if by being there I had offended her. I, however, was not at all offended. It was like being singled out for abuse at a Don Rickles concert. Next time I'll try to sit close to the cashier so I have a better view of the floorshow.

And maybe not even then. The good is that their Greek salad is great and certainly fairly priced. Service was fine and the young lady pleasant. But the pizza was just awful. A large was about $27.00 and even with a 50% off coupon wasn't worth it. My wife, who seems never to complain about anything and who previously liked the pizza here thought it was the absolutely worst pizza she'd ever had. The crust had to be previously made and frozen. Then they burned it and forgot (?) the tomato sauce. Toppings were minimal and tastless (that's the only part we could eat). The place was almost empty at 6 pm. It's easy to see why. I don't think it was just a bad day. Go elsewhere.

Submitted Saturday, August 6, 2011 - 7:26am [Dine in]

We loved this place and came here all the time over the decades and I reviewed this place on this site 2 years ago.
We hadn't been back since for reasons I stated in my review then but decided to give it another go for old time sake. Too bad.
At lunch during the week the place was almost empty. Never a good sign. But we like to sit on the deck so what would it matter? Our order was simple but after a half hour I asked the server what was up. Apparently they had a table of 6 come in who placed their order after ours but got seen to first. Ok that happens and we're liking the deck. The server apoligized when the food came about 15 minutes later. She was pleasant but seemed to be the only help the kitchen had.
We're not pickey because it's just food, but it was awful. Raw fish unless it's sushi is neither safe nor palatable. The fries that came with it were old and tired. My wife wouldn't eat the ham that came with her late breakfast as it tasted off.
The food was not costly but you simply cannot serve that stuff in that tardy fashion and survive in this business especially with the hit restaurants are taking today.
I'll remember this place for a lot of good times and I wish them well but we won't return.

This apparently is Sri Lanken fare and if so is very good. The prices are reasonable, service is attentive and pleasant. Most importantly the food is plentiful, fresh and above all spiced right. We like it spicy and the dishes we ordered had far more heat, in a tasty way, than many places who prepare similar dishes.
This will become a regular for lunch, when I'm in the area .

The lunch specials at $6.95 are a deal. They all come with a salad, spring roll and dip and soup. The downside to this is that they were are quite forgetable. Tiny and tasteless. I'd prefer to pay a few dollars more and get a tastier larger portion.
The main is another matter. The chicken with cashew nuts in hot chili peppers with rice was excellent. Great flavour and spice, fresh and lots of it. Service was very good. They take your order and serve quickly and gave you water and a refil without asking. It's hard to beat for a lunch stop.

Had lunch there Saturday and was pleased with the selection, prices and especially the service which was attentive. Although we just had the bento box it was fresh and tasty and priced right. The menu contains a fairly long barby section which I look forward to trying on my next visit. The previous reviews are right on. A must for sushi in the tri cities.

The wonton soup at $2.95 with 8 wontons and decent broth is not the best but ok, filling, and, of course, cheap. Singing chicken hotpot for under $8 is, again, a bargin and tasty. It is a hole in the wall but the people are friendly and service is good. I wouldn't go out of my way to come here, although if in the area, I may pop in to try one of their super cheap and large lunch specials. For large plates and cheap Chinese food it's hard to do better.

Finally got to go here being in the area. The hamburger was excellent. Everything was fresh and homemade. The fries were great. At $10.00 the value is unbeatable. Although the service was good, I had to ask for cutlery, hot sauce and more naptkins as nothing came with the burger. They were friendly and polite so no big deal. After getting awful burgers for as much or more elsewhere, if I want a burger, it will be here only.

Serious need of a makeover

It's family run and the people are friendly. The server was new but did fine.
The food was good but too expensive. You can get better for less in many places elsewhere.
The issue is the restaurant itself. Apparently they've been there for 30+ years and clearly have done nothing to update since. The place smelled dank, floors were dirty, tables were small and shakey. Everything was just old and in need of a massive overhaul. Perhaps they think it's quaint. It's not. We won't return.

I've tried so many dim sum restaurants in the lower mainland and, as with everything else, you get what you pay for. The decor is pleasant. Tea was brought right away with hot sauce, mustard, etc. already on the table. Water was brought quickly when asked for and refilled without asking. Had three dishes, har gow, beef balls, and tofu stuffed with fish. All were brought surprisingly fast and at the same time, steaming hot. All were outstanding with the har gow just maybe being the best ever. The issue is price point. The har gow was $5.25 and the other 2 dishes $4.50 or so, more to far more than average. With tax and tip you're looking at about $18. To me it was worth it for the few $s more. It just won't be an everyday thing.

Had lunch there the other day. Ginger beef with rice and hot and sour soup for $8. The soup was a large serving and very tasty. Lots of ginger beef with just the right heat. You could easily take some leftovers home. Service was pleasant and quick. It's a chinese restaurant so the decor isn't great but it was ok and clean. Will return if I'm in the area.

I really wanted to like this place
Submitted Saturday, January 9, 2010 - 11:18am [Dine in]

Went for lunch and was delighted with the menu. A great selection and all reasonably priced. The lunch special section also gave you all the menu types you would need. The wait staff were friendly and efficient. Ambiance was fine.
Although I almost never order deep fried anything, General Tsao's chicken is a favorite so I gave it a go. The hand made noodles that I ordered with it for an extra 1$ were good and the sauce just hot enough. But the chicken was so overbattered that I had to dismantle each piece as there seemed to be 7 parts batter per chicken part. In the end I regret my 2 rating for the food because it applies to this dish only and those that like all that batter may even like it. As I feel the other menu items will fare much better I will try it again soon.

This is a good restaurant. The hot and sour seafood pho is wonderful. Order only half noodles as you get so much more broth. Spicy and flavorful.
It is in a strip mall so there's lots of parking.
Service is quick and friendly. They asked me if I wanted a newspaper and brought it to my table. The restaurant is small but clean. Certainly recommended.

Went there by myself on a weekday around 11am and was surprised to see it jamed and lined out the door when I left.
The portions were large and the food mostly good. The issue here is price point. At $3.75 a dish and up it's certainly more expensive than many dim sum restaurants I've been to. However, there's nothing in that area that really compares. So you're a bit stuck unless you want to travel.
The ambience was great with all the hustle and bussel and that's a lot of the fun.
The service was very good - quick and attentive when you caught their eye.
All in all a good experience. I will return.

Went there early on a Tuesday night and the place was packed. Really was hopping. We had mostly appies and they were somewhat pricey but all good, especially the oysters on the half shell. Their ahi tina sushi roll may have been the best. The young lady serving us was pleasant and very attentive. After appies we decided to have dinner but at the Italian Kitchen across the street which I understand is owned or controlled by the same people. Notwithstanding the fact that this restaurant was also packed, our server arranged to get the 3 of us a great table downstairs for an ensuing lovely dinner. No wonder they're doing well.
