Fassil Ethiopian Restaurant736 East Broadway, Unit 5, Vancouver
Great value and excellent food
Submitted Sunday, March 29, 2009 - 1:34pm [Dine in]

I had arranged a surprise birthday dinner for my boyfriend at Fassil with his friends. I had been to the restaurant before after reading the reviews on dinehere.ca, and decided to come again because my boyfriend wanted to have some Ethiopian food. When everyone had arrived, the owner had given us some recommendations for dishes to try. Since a lot of people haven't tried Ethiopian food, it was great that he suggested specific dishes to try. The service was prompt and fairly attentive, with the food was delicious. We had a selection of meats (lamb, beef, chicken) and vegetables (curried chickpeas, cabbage and carrots, salad, spinach, and lentils). Everything came out to around $12 per person (for a group of 10) with a bit of food leftover, including tip and the birthday boy's share. Highly recommended!

Kerkis Greek Taverna3605 West 4th Avenue, Vancouver
Mediocre and overpriced
Submitted Sunday, March 8, 2009 - 1:34pm [Dine in]

My boyfriend and I had went to Kerkis for some Greek in the neighbourhood, after I read some of the reviews of the restaurant on Dinehere. The service was rather disappointing because the waitress' tone and demeanor was not welcoming or friendly to us (in contrast to the hostess) and she seemed a bit haughty. I overheard her interacting with two men sitting near us and she seemed a bit friendlier to them.

The food itself was average. The Greek salad that came with the meal had way too much cheese in it. I had ordered mixed souvlaki, which was decent but the chicken (one of the three meats) was rather tasteless and dry. The other two (pork and lamb, I think) were delicious. The vegetables served with the souvlaki were mediocre; and I was not impressed that the carrots had a bit of a 'frozen' taste to it. My boyfriend had lasagna, which was pretty good apart from the fact that it was $15!

In all fairness, Kerkis has nice ambiance and has a nice 'romantic' feel to it. However, I think it's a waste of money to go to Kerkis when there are so many other Greek restaurants that have much better food at much more reasonable prices. I won't be going back because it's not worth it to pay $18 for mediocre Greek food.

Never again!

We had a group of 8 (and later 10) make last minute reservations at the restaurant, which accomodated us somewhat well. We had asked the server to pull up another two chairs which she did not do until we had the two guests show up. The ambiance of the restaurant was all right.

The reason I give this restaurant such a poor rating is its service and its ability provide decent service. It seems as if they were rather understaffed. I ordered a pot of water with lemon and was told by the server that the kitchen had 'run out' of lemon and she would bring the lemon later. She never did bring back the lemon. My cup for the hot water was given to me with some unknown dried food stuck on it (pretty gross) and when I requested a *new* cup, I was given back the same cup that had just been washed out. Ugh.

The biggest problem that I have with the restaurant is the fact that my allergy concerns were completely ignored. I had asked the server to check with the kitchen regarding my order and whether it had the substance that I was allergic to in it. Again, she never did get back to me on that... and I'll never eat there again because as it turns out, the food did have the substance that I am allergic to in it as I had a reaction later on that night. Never again!

O Thai Cuisine Restaurant1626 West Broadway, Vancouver
satisfying, but...

The service was fairly efficient for a party of 15, but it was really the portion size of the food that I surprised me. For paying roughly $10 for the kee maow, I was expecting a lot more pasta than what I got.. the pumpkin creme brulee was decent, though I thought that creme brulee was supposed to be fairly warm (the dish was hot but the food was somewhat lukewarm)! It was all right, but I don't think that I would be rushing to come back, as it was kind of pricey for how little food I got..

Went there with a few friends -- all of us had troubles finding it. After asking around, we found it that it was apparently went out of business at this specific location...

Just wanted to warn others not to go looking for Jang Mo Jib at this location, because you won't find it! It's probably better to go to Robson.
