My girlfriend and I usually go to Tokushima for sushi, but being Valentine's Day, we thought we would try Kakemono, which appeared to be a bit more upscale and classy. Our experience was awful and we definitely won't be returning.

We had reservations for 5pm, and were promptly seated. Even though I had requested a booth when making the reservation, when we arrived they said all the booths were already reserved. We saw three booths unused for the entire duration of our stay. They all had little "reserved" signs on them, but nobody sat there during the hour and a half or so we were there.

The food was excellent, but the soy sauce was the saltiest I've ever tasted. The atmosphere inside is quite nice, with classy decor and top 40 music playing.

The service is where things really went sour. We were basically forgotten about for the majority of our time there. We saw a couple next to us receive everything they ordered before we even got our soup and salad, even though we ordered at least 10 minutes before they arrived. We had to repeatedly ask if our food was coming and had to re-order several dishes, since they were completely forgotten about. Near the end, we waited 15 minutes for our last plate of sushi. When it still hadn't arrived after 15 minutes, we asked for the bill. That was the only time we received prompt service. While getting my money ready to pay, a waitress finally came over with the rest of our food. We complained about the poor service, and especially at the fact that they charged us the "holiday rate" just because it was Valentine's Day.

They didn't offer to do anything, despite my arguments that we were being ripped off. We begrudgingly paid our bill, left no tip and left full, but dissatisfied. We most definitely will NOT be returning to Kakemono Oshawa.
