Go for the food, not the atmosphere.
Submitted Saturday, January 1, 2011 - 2:42am [Dine in]

Like I said in the title, the atmosphere is really lacking. The place has about 6 tables and florescent lighting, it's one of those hole-in-the-wall type places that at least *tries* to be classy, so A for effort guys. The thing that I really love about it though is how clean it is, and how fast the staff are to cleaning up any kind of mess that occurs; you know, babies throwing food around, spilled sodas, etc. I ALWAYS order the wonton soup there, it's the best wonton I've had in this city, hands down. Best thing in the world for nursing a hangover. I've actually been known to travel across town for it... I think it might have magical properties of sorts. Anyways, The food is fantastic. No bits of cartilage that give you the icks when you bit into your sweet and sour pork, no intensely fatty pieces of beef in your chop sui.

The staff are pretty great too. One of the full time staff members there is way too polite, in a funny ha-ha that's really cute way. I once had a solid 4 minute conversation with her in which we only said thank you. It made my day and was really strange at the same time. I'm going for wonton tomorrow to beat the epic hangover that awaits me. Happy new years all!

Five Point, The3124 Main St., Vancouver
Great place to watch the game

Like the title says, it's just awesome for watching any kind of sporting event. But don't expect them to turn the volume up if there isn't a Canadian team playing. Good beer selection, great menu, and the atmosphere is actually pretty impressive! The service is it's downfall, Sometimes its awesome and sometimes its the pits. Kind of a coin toss, but it's still a risk I'm willing to take some play off time.

The Brunch is what makes it.
Submitted Saturday, December 11, 2010 - 11:28pm [Dine in]

Lately I've been heading to zigz for their sunday brunch, and I gotta say I'm impressed. My girlfriend and I are now return customers at this joint, because the food is just so friggen good. At first glance I thought it was kind of pricey, $10 for a couple of eggs, hash browns, chorizo sausages, toast and coffee. Then I ate it. It was cooked perfectly and the plate was FULL of food, pretty stellar portion sizes. The service is wicked too, which is a big plus when you're nursing a saturday night hangover. As soon as we sit down there's coffee and water there for us and our orders are taken pretty much as soon as we've decided what we want, coffee top ups are a plenty and dirty dishes don't hang around our table staring at us.

The only real negative there is the dust from the renos they're doing right now, it's a kind of half restaurant and half construction site. Either way though I'm still down for brunch tomorrow!

Sun Sushi4512 W 10th Ave, Vancouver
One of my favorites!
Submitted Saturday, May 15, 2010 - 10:24pm [Dine in]

Sun Sushi, as well as it's sister restaurant Kitsaya, are my honest-to-god favorite sushi joints around. The price is right, the sushi tastes amazing, and although you might not get the best service in town, it's not terrible - like at many other sushi places. I would say that the service is absolutely forgivable given the quality, and price, of the food.

I don't have anything bad to say about these guys, when it comes down to it everything has been up to par. Clean dishes, clean tables, tidy washrooms, and quality food.

Bella Roma Pizzeria & Ristorante4460 W. 10th Ave, Vancouver
Good Pizza, Worst service I've EVER had.
Submitted Saturday, February 6, 2010 - 5:01pm [Dine in]

It's a shame that the owner and waitress taking orders over the phone are such idiots, because the pizza is genuinely good. Ordered from here before and gave compliments to the owner and chef, who seemed like wonderful people during my dine in experience. A couple of weeks ago I ordered some delivery from them. The first thing that went wrong was the girl who answered the phone, she provided me with the absolute WORST kind of attitude I've encountered and I would honestly rather spend half an hour speaking with a telemarketer than have to go through her again. She answered, said hello then put the phone down without asking me to hold. I could hear her in the background talking with another employee and after leaving me in limbo for a solid 3 minutes I hung up. I called back and she answered again, when I told her what happened, expecting an apology, she just said "Oh. What do you want?" ...Seriously. So I tell her my order and she doesn't even read it back to me after to confirm everything that I asked for, so I asked her to read it back. She only got one of the four items right. Great. I asked her what my total came to and she just said "30 minutes" and hung up on me. I called back, in complete shock, and said "HI, I JUST CALLED HERE, CAN YOU PLEASE TELL ME MY CHEQUES TOTAL?" TO which she hung up on me again. Fine. Whatever.

I wasn't even expecting the food to come and to my honest to god dismay, it arrived; not thirty minutes later though, but an hour and a half later. The delivery guy was the only person to give me a straight explanation and an apology on the poor service, that's about the only saving grace here. The pizza was good, and like I said, it's a damn shame that it was, because I'm really going to miss it since I'm never ordering from Bella Roma again.

I called and asked to speak to the owner, who I once thought was a lovely man, only to be given excuse after excuse, no apology.

There are places with better pizza out there, that DOESN'T come with sh*tty service.
