Friends were impressed
Submitted Sunday, September 20, 2015 - 4:35pm [Dine in]

We came in looking a little lost, but our server sat us where we had an excellent view of the Vancouver Harbour. For two Brits, the beer menu did not disappoint and we enjoyed the IPA. The food was pretty good also and I enjoyed the chili. Two of us had the small fish and chips, also very good.

Way to spoil our anniversary dinner, guys

When we arrived, water was poured quickly, but no server offered drinks (I ordered with food and the wrong size of wine arrived but I was not charged for their mistake). The bread basket was nice and the Caesar salad was interesting and enough for sharing, although it took about 30 min. to arrive. My wife ordered lamb and was told it was not available well done, I ordered steak Oscar. Then there was another long wait for the entrées to arrive. The portions were reasonable, and my wife was happy about this as she has a small appetite. My steak Oscar came without crab. I had to raise my voice for the Maître d' to come, as no server asked if the food was to our liking, and he fixed it quickly. After another wait we were able to order a dessert between us and we liked it. Finally, it took a while to get the bill, the Maître d' noticed that we were waiting to pay, and said he would bring the card machine at once, but took it to another table first. If Carvers cannot improve on service and checking food and drink matches the order, this restaurant needs another operator.

We found the side room, where the noise level was reduced. The main pub area is very popular and there are lots of TVs showing sports. The side room was also filling up during our stay. We ordered a meat pie and a bison burger, both meals very enjoyable. The service was friendly and fast.

A very popular place

We went early on a Friday evening and found the restaurant to be quite crowded. Many of the Patrons were young families. Pho seemed to be the most popular choice, but we ordered Salt and Pepper Sea Food and a Chicken Vermicelli Bowl. Both were nicely presented and hot, and we shared some vermicelli and salad to augment the mixed seafood bowl. The decor is modern and pleasing on the eye.

Senior's night out

We were delighted to discover that on Mon & Tues, seniors can have two meals for $17 plus the cost of two beverages. We ordered Liver & Onions and Fish & Chips, with two orders of hot tea. The portion sizes were adequate given that desserts were included in the deal, the food was hot and the service efficient and friendly.

Slow food preparation
Submitted Monday, October 20, 2014 - 1:06pm [Dine in]

First the beers: I was disappointed that only two of their own beers were on the menu, but found a nice drop of guest IPA. Although the restaurant had become half empty while we waited, the food preparation seemed slow. Perhaps they wanted to sell more beer? When the fajitas and salmon/crab cakes came, they were hot and we enjoyed the food.

Dining in a relaxed atmosphere

The salad bar is quite simple, but also adequate. We ordered the pepper steak stir fry and poached salmon. Both came quite quickly and were hot and delicious. The server was friendly, advised us when the food was coming, and made sure we were enjoying the meal. We found the decor to be relaxing, and liked the wall pictures. The restaurant was quite full, with clientele from babies to seniors.

Disappointing food and service speed
Submitted Sunday, September 21, 2014 - 12:44pm [Dine in]

We chose this restaurant for an anniversary dinner. We anticipated excellent food and service, given the price of main courses that are $20 and up. The service was friendly and the waiter was informative. However, we had what seemed like a very long wait for the soup and main course to arrive. Both were lukewarm at best. Perhaps this was because there were four chefs bout only two servers helped by a manager. Nobody asked whether the food was to our liking. It was certainly tasty, but not sufficiently warm to be enjoyable.

Pleasantly surprised

We ordered the $12 Friday night steak special and chicken strips. Although the chicken is listed as an appetizer, when fries are added it makes a nice, light meal. I'm looking forward to trying other appetizers on my next visit. The service was prompt and friendly. When the food came, it was well presented and tasty. We'll definitely add this place to our list of local restaurants that offer good value and service.

Good for comfort food

We ordered a simple meal of fish & chips, and shepherd's pie, with two beverages.

The service was prompt and friendly, the food was warm and enjoyable.

The decor seems to have been face lifted since we were last here.

The restaurant features an ice-cream bar with many different offerings. Although we did not order any ice cream, ther was a steady queue of patrons, so it's probably pretty good.

Sunday roast beef dinner special
Submitted Monday, October 15, 2012 - 9:28am [Dine in]

We were a party of eight and we all had the Roast Beef Yorkie dinner special, nicely prepared and at an unbelievably low price. There are two sizes, 5ox and 8oz, accompanied by Yorkshire pudding, mashed potato and veg. The service was friendly and attentive. The furniture is somewhat utilitarian, and the lighting was not all turned on. However, this is the place for a quality meal that will not burn a hole in your pocket.

We enjoyed the appetizer special -- three dishes of Kobe Beefballs Lollipop, Crispy Panko Tiger Prawns and Crispy Chicken Wings, all for $10.
For main courses, we had Kobe Beef Ball Penne, Tomato Sauce (as recommended by a friend and delicious), and Sweet & Sour Pork on Rice (sweeter than usual but nice).
We were impressed by the presentation of each dish.

This is a small restaurant, recently opened. We saw one chef and one server, presumably the proprietors. The service was friendly, with good explanations of the menu items. We had a light dinner, and the Dragon Roll was especially tasty. The appetizer tempura was also nice. The menu focuses mostly on sushi and sashimi, but there are a few non-fish items, mostly salads, appetizers and desserts.

Disapointing
Submitted Saturday, July 10, 2010 - 9:08am [Dine in]

Although the outside is somewhat attractive, the interior was disappointing, not to mention a water leak on the floor near our table. A meat dish was OK, while a stew was rather greasy. Prices were a little high for a family-style restaurant. There is a good selection of mild to medium spices on the menu. We will probably not try this restaurant again.
