A Good Experience!

A Good Experience!
I took Nellie to the Stonegrill for her birthday as it was a place she had always wanted to try. I was reluctant because I had heard mixed reviews but this was her night so that was where we went. Also, the fact that our Entertainment Book had a coupon with an excellent value, our decision was made.

We arrived for our reservation and were quickly seated. Menus were passed to us and we were left to contemplate our decisions. The owner or the restaurant came up and introduced himself, welcomed us and gave us a quick lesson on the concept. He asked us how we had heard of the venue and we told him that we were curious and had heard of it through our Entertainment Book. He was pleased with this, thanked us for attending and left us to our choices.

Our waiter arrived shortly after and recommended the Surf & Turf which is what we both decided on. We also had the stuffed calamari which sounded quite interesting. It was an interesting dish but neither of us would go for that one again.

I was a little leery having a large hunk of raw meat and a raw lobster tail set in front of me but the waiter and the owner's lessons had paid off well.

We found the meal to be excellent and enjoyed our experience immensely. The vegetables were tasty and the au jous and garlic butter served with the steak and lobster accented the flavours of the entree. After the meal, the owner once again came to speak with us to hear of our experience. We let him know that we greatly enjoyed it and would definately do our best to attend again!

To wind down, we both enjoyed a couple drinks and then called it a night. It was an excellent experience and I truly enjoyed not only the meal but also walking out with a smiling, content, beautiful lady on my arm.

Bogarts Chop House
Submitted Thursday, April 13, 2006 - 10:48am [Dine in]

This was our first time at Bogarts. We had been invited out by a business partner of mine and my GF picked the spot.

We went in on a Thursday nite for an early dinner. We found the restaurant quite easily and it was rather comfortable and inviting. A piano player was doing his thing and the music was relaxing.

Myself and Nellie started out with Oysters on the Half Shell. Fresh and good flavor! Only negative comment would be that they were a little small.

For the main courses I had the BBQ porkribs with a roasted tomato and potato salad, Nellie is a steak freak and went directly for that. Buddy Clay had the lamb. Everything looked fantastic and forks were flying across the table to sample everything.

I've never been a lamb fan but man, was set on our table sure changed my mind. The medley of flavors in this lamb, not to mention the tenderness was great! Nellie's steak was cooked to perfection and she loved every bite. Flavorful and delicious!

Althought I enjoyed theirs, mine was the best hands down! The meat on the ribs slipped off and melted in my mouth! Delicious!!! The roasted tomatos was an excellent side and the potato salad was fantastic!!! Everything on my plates was fantastic!

Service was excellent, attentive and knowledgeable! I already told you about the food! Oh yeah, we're going back!!!

Dinner Out with the Boys
Submitted Thursday, April 13, 2006 - 10:32am [Dine in]

We hit Sideshows on a Monday night. I'd driven by a few times and always wanted to stop in and check it out.

The weather was a bit dismal but the place still looked inviting. The food was even more so.

The menu looked good, lots of appetizers but only a few main courses. The main courses, price wise were a bit up there.

To start, I tried the Chorizo Sausage and Prawns with Spinach for an appetizer. A nice size portion arrived and it was delicious! Very flavorful and worth the price. Anything smaller and I would have been disappointed. They put together an excellent starter. A friend of mine had the Portobello Mushroom. He was moaning and groaning about how good it was, it was embarassing! I had to try it and did...ok...maybe the moaning and groaning was warranted. Very nice!

For the mains, two of us had the roaster bbq chicken pizzas! Again, a good value and absolutely delicious. Very flavorful, plenty of toppings, it was super! Other buddy had the 2 piece fish and chips. I thought that was a little unadventureous but he headed to the can and I snagged a bite off his plate. Needless to say, I'll be ordering that the next time I'm there! I just hope they have a 3 piece version!

All in all, it was an excellent night out and not overly expensive! Service was attentive and was able to offer suggestions and even knew what they were selling and talking about.

Can't wait to head back with the girl!

Try it, you won't be disappointed!

Dine Out
Submitted Wednesday, February 22, 2006 - 6:47pm [Dine in]

I believe this was our third stop for the Dine Out. We hit Samba on a Friday night and enjoyed some live music and dancing girls.

We chose the all you can eat for the Dine Out and it was delicious! The different meats were excellent! We agree with the other reviews....don't fill up on the salad bar!

Service in terms of getting a drink or cutlery was a pain. It seems that they seat you and forget about you. No one came by to check on you to see if you needed anything.

Beyond that, we enjoyed ourselves and will return.

An Excellent Dine Out Experience
Submitted Wednesday, February 22, 2006 - 6:42pm [Dine in]

Thank you to our server Derek for making it the most enjoyable of our stops that week!

We were greeted by smiling faces, ushered to a nice table and placed in the hands of Derek who engaged us in light conversation and made us feel right at home. Based on some other reviews, we expected a pretentious atmosphere but were pleasantly surprised. Derek was excellent!

We started off with the oyster appetizer, 4 good sized oysters, fresh and tasty. For the main course, I had the beef and my lady had the ahi tuna. Both melted in our mouths! Delicious! For dessert, banana bread pudding and cheese cake. Again, delicious!!

We even tried one of Forte's local made house wines and were very pleased.

Before we left, we filled out the comment card and were surprised to receive a response from Derek thanking us for our comments. We enjoyed ourselves immensely! If you go, ask for Derek, there isn't a snobby bone in his body!

Dine Out
Submitted Wednesday, February 22, 2006 - 6:33pm [Dine in]

Capone's was one of our first stops on the Dine Out. We led up to the front and seated at a nice table for two directly in front of the stage. The live jazz was excellent however the meal to follow was anything but.

We started out with the chicken skewers and the sambuca shrimp appetizers. The skewers weren't bad, a little dry but the sambuca shrimp was pathetic. Three shrimp in the middle of a plate!!!

The main course was the beef shortribs. Tasty but again not at all worth the value. Dessert was equally as disappointing. Such pitiful portions and incredibly overpriced.

The service, although friendly, was not at all efficient. We ordered wine for our meal but it arrived after we had finished. They also pushed us through, practically throwing the bill at us and saying they had a set amount of time which we could spend dining and then had to leave.

We dine out on a regular basis, trying at least a couple of new venues each month. Capone's could have been so much better, it has the ambiance but the food, prices and service are less than palatable. We will not be returning.
