Nice experience
Submitted Wednesday, March 14, 2012 - 10:15pm [Dine in]

We went there for the Peking Duck (children's favourites) and some other dishes as well. The duck courses were both great and served in a timely fashion. The sauce was somewhat different and very well recieved by the kids. The other plates were large and tasty. The decor and service were quite commendable. DK what the other complaints are about unless you are expecting slaves to serve you dinner for nothing. I will return altho it is a bit pricy for a family of five.

Great deal on good food

I have always gone here for my cogee fix but last night we went there for supper and it did not disappoint! We had wonton soup and five dishes for 6 people and we had lots left over. The dry garlic spare ribs were very tasty and not at all greasy. We had kow nyook (sp?) which my sister remebered as a child and we have not had in 20 years. They were able to make that and it was quite amazingly good! The house special chow mein was also a good choice as well. Since they've remodelled the ambiance is ten times better. We will definately be back again and I whole heartedly recommend it. DK what the previous MSG poster's complaint is all about.

Just the chicken...
Submitted Saturday, December 4, 2010 - 11:02pm [Take-out]

As another person wrote "You come for the chicken". The chicken is what sells this place. Not so sure it's less greasy than KFC but it has a trademark crunchiness for sure. Of the sides we like the OK fries but we have come to like their Wild West rice for sure. Unfortunately, that one does leave a little grease swimming at the bottom of the container but we only eat there once in a while. Enjoy your life because if it's not the greasy food getting you in 20-30 years it's that bus you didn't see coming around the corner tomorrow!

Could have been better...

If you read my other posts here you will see my standards are not hard to meet. We ate here on a Saturday night with reservations at 6 pm. So, yes, it was busy but we had to wait an hour for our food!!! No exageration, try that with kids! We had some good plates with lamb curry and moca burger. However, the quesadilla, Callypso stew, and kids' nachos (burnt) were bland and unappealling. However, I may be over rating the food because we had to wait so long and we were HUNGRY! We didn't take itut on the staff and tipped well because we could see they were trying to make things work. Maybe it all has to do with the kitchen staff???

Great deal for the westside
Submitted Thursday, July 8, 2010 - 11:34am [Dine in]

DK what some people are expecting for their $$ these days. When you find a friendly place that treats you well and serves up decent food without gourmet prices why whould anyone want to run it down!?!? I am no expert on Mediterranean food but I know what I like and I like their donairs, homous, and grape leaves. I have not yet tried the entire menu and probably never will but I will certainly recommend this place for the things I have tried. Good deal!

Best deal on the Westside!

We found this place quite by accident yet we only live 2 minutes away from it. The owner says they have been there for 2 years now. Their lunch specials are an amazing value at $5.25 and includes a spring roll or soup! The soups altho a sideline to the entree has never let us down. The food is quickly prepared and not too salty as is the case in too many Chinese food establishments. We have tried their dinner menu as well and the house special chow mein is terrific! Since we "discovered" it we have been back 4 times in 2 weeks and I'm sure we will be back again.

Still great!

It's been a fixture on Robson ever since I moved here 25 years ago. We decided to try it out and have been back two times since. True the decor probably dates back to the 70's but the service we had was very attentive and quick. They have very nice baked pasta dishes on special daily but the real draw is the pizza. Regardless of toppings their crust is light, airy, and crisp. They are not stingy with their cheese topping and is the case with many of those "by the slice" places. There's no kid's menu but mine were happy sharing pizza. Anyway it is one of our favorite choices now for quality pizza and pasta. My sister's and brother's families have re-discovered this place now as well. We have nothing bad to say about them.

I have frequented this place since it used to be the Ho Tah Kee as well. I continue to bring my family here for good quality food at very reasonable prices. Yes, the decor could use an overhaul but we are there for the food. As their business seems to be suffering some from the likes of the above who don't seem to care for them under their new name we find the service to be very good and fast. Nothing wrong with this place in my opinion!
The House Special chow mein has good noodles covered in a variety of meat, seafood and veggies for only $8.50. Can't beat that on the westside where we live for that price! It's worht the drive for us.

I don't get it
Submitted Sunday, June 8, 2008 - 5:29pm [Dine in]

I don't understand how anyone can knock this place. It's not presumptuous, it's not haute cuisine... it's a diner. As such it meets my expectations and then some. I've never had faster service other than at McDs and that ilk. Having a family we look for the ocassional good value establishments as a way of taking a breather from busy lives. The Grove provides good food at very reasonable prices. It you want something a little flashier, exotic, or expensive... just keep walking. If you want basic diner food served fresh and fast then stop in and enjoy. But I can't vouch for the recently added sushi as I'm not that adventurous.

Good Experience
Submitted Sunday, June 8, 2008 - 5:21pm [Dine in]

Initially drawn in by the food pictures in front. We finally wandered in after a trip to Stanley Park. Everyone really enjoyed their various schnitzel selections. All of which were quite large, freshly prepared, and delivered very promptly. Yes, the fries were quite good and there were lots of them! The side salads were not noteworthy but the schnitzels and their accompanying sauses were the stars of the plate anyway.
