Cristos Greek Taverna4624 Hastings Street, Burnaby
Fine Greek food here
Submitted Monday, May 19, 2008 - 6:09am [Dine in]

Hello there,

Whenever I'm out in North Burnaby...I and my friends or associates always come here for Greek food. My favs are the Calamaria or Keftedes (Greek meatballs) dinner or the Mousaka. If one of your friends want to share...I would recommend the Combination or the Cristo's platter for two. Its a pretty good deal and leftovers are guranteed. All in all..good food, good service and good atomsphere.

Hello there,

This is my post mother's day dinner for my mom since work schedule difficulties got in the way. My sis suggested this Hong Kong style cafe...hell...why not...if I remember correctly..this restaurant use to be a Korean BBQ place and its right across from Dai Tung Chinese Restaurant. Good thing we made reservation cause it was packed.
We ended up setting for the combo menu (which was at the back of the main menu). The order was 4 dishes of our choice and included soup, half of a free range chicken, rice, and dessert. The choices were beef , onion and ginger hot pot, sweet and sour pork chops, assorted vegetables with tofu and chili/garlic/spicy salt squid. The bad news?? Somewhat minor...free range chicken was pretty good but I'm not too sure if the skin had food colouring added on as a eye enhancer....don't remember chicken skin was so yellowish. Also, the pork chops...the sour overpowered the sweet..the balance was a bit off in the sauce. The good news..the portions were very descent, the squid dish was awesome and my mom gave it a thumbs up for returning the next time...maybe father's day????

Supersized sushi!!

Hello there

I've been here many at times for take out ...this is the only place I know that serves supersized sushi and sashimi. BIG BIG Big is my only description. Make sure you have an empty stomach cause the portions are hugh...enough for even two people. My favs: mixed combo A or B, B.C. roll, SSSR roll, dragon roll, salmon or toro or hamachi sashimi. Just be warned: the house roll is like a eating a 3 level home ...a good 2 to 4 bites just to finish one piece. Peak hours are usually packed. Order take out 2 hours in advance...recieve a 5% discount. Seating??? good luck!!
All in all cheap and good eats.

Hello there,

I live in the eastside for years and this is probably my favorite spot for Cambodian/Vietnamese. I have brought my friends, family, and associates here...they all said its good stuff! The combinations are an excellent value and one of my favs. My recommendations are shrimp salad rolls, mini Vietnamese spring rolls, prawn supreme on sugar cane, PP spicy garlic squid with a lime pepper dipping sauce (the BEST), hot and sour soup with chicken, bbq lemon grass pork chops and trieu chow fried rice. The service is good to very good depending when...its very busy and the line ups are long during peak hours. The Ambiance...okay. The food is what its all about!!

Quick and cheap.

Hello there,

Whenever I'm in the area from some good and cheap Vietnamese...I usually go here for take out lunch. My order...one or two salad rolls with two spring rolls. The salad rolls are filled with bean sprouts and rice vermielli...with sliced Vietnamese ham and cooked shrimp. Also comes with a peanut/hoisin dipping sauce. Pretty good standard stuff. The spring rolls are hot off the deepfryer...the filling is more grinded up than I want but still pretty tasty. Its served with a slightly stronger fish sauce/rice vinegar dipping solution....cuts through the grease!!

Hello there,

Me and my buddy decided to tryout something different rather than Chinese or Japanese or Indian fare...picked out Tropika...funny thing...zipped by the restaurant for years but no desire to expand my tastebuds...until now. We decided on 6pm on a weekday....parking is a bit difficult with the expansion of the new skytrain line..end up parking a block and half behind the restaurant and my buddy was lucking to find a spot right next to the restaurant. We were in the door and seated immediately..the restaurant was only half full....which is good...no line ups!! Since we decided to pigout..we ordered the Thai prawn cakes appies...with four core dishes...Thai style green curry chicken, hot and sour eggplant with minced pork, Pad Thai, and finally the Pineapple fried rice with ham and chicken. All were good especially the green curry chicken...super tender chicken and a well balanced sauce of coconut milk and curry spices!! My only shock was having pineapple in fried rice but it tasted good as well. As usual, we skipped dessert. The bill came up to about $75 bucks with one drink, tax and tip. The leftovers were split in half...good for a second meal later on. All in all...a very good meal and highly recommended.

Hello there,

Me and my old buds from my last job like to go here every 3 to 4 months to catch up on what's going on . This new place is an absolutely zoo during peak dinner hours. I do have to say its decor is nice as you step inside and the low light ambiance looks pretty cool. Parking on the other hand is bad...my advice is to park on the side street. I starting to think this must be the only high-medium end steakhouse out in Burnaby.
The food and service is good as usual. I usually start off with the bacon wrapped scallops (wish these suckers were bigger) or a shared dish of crab spinach dip with chips..then with the main course of prime rib medium rare with or without a lobster tail depending on the season...with side dishes of aspargus and rice pilaf. Skipped desserts as usual. My tab ends up being around $60 to $90 bucks with drinks, taxes and tip. Overall...good food...good company and good times.

One of the better fish n'chips places around

Hello there,
Me and my buddies have gone to this place seveal times now...so far so good. The best times to go are mondays to wednesdays when they have their all you can eat cod and chips with countless refills on pop for under $10 bucks. Go between 2pm and 5pm...avoid the lunch and dinner expresses.
The food is excellent...moist fish on the inside and non greasy crispy batter on the outside. Fries were just as good. On the occassion..I even added fried oysters and fried prawns on the side ..a little bit extra on the bill but worth it. My only annoyance was the tartar sauce...came out from a squeeze bottle...kind of wierd...the sauce itself was mayo like and lacks a bit of a punch or zing. Service is pretty good in a orderly way. Ambiance?? well...a diner feel to it but its the food that counts!!
ps if your not in New West check out the other location in Burnaby...just as good.
