Half Expect To See Guy Fieri Filming A Show

I'm sure many people have watched Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives. Well, this is one place that, to my knowledge, hasn't been on there ... yet. It offers just down home diner cooking done very well each time, and being big supporters of Whalley Little League for many years has a mainly baseball themed decor. My favourite thing on the menu is the perogie breakfast, the best part being the choice of having them just boiled, or getting them pan fried to crisp them up. Absolutely delicious cheddar cheese filled perogies go very, very well with poached eggs and bacon. Service is very warm and friends. Just a really good place to come for a meal.

Now That's A Tasty Burger
Submitted Monday, October 25, 2010 - 11:56am [Dine in]

The name of the chain says it all. They do burgers and fries, and they do it very well. Tasty all beef patty loaded with toppings including grilled onions and mushrooms (that one doesn't have to pay extra for). Fries that are cooked to order, and thus are hot and crispy, having been cooked in peanut oil. A few salted, roasted in shell peanuts to whet the appetite while waiting was nice as well. Staff were courteous, and the cleanliness of the place was very apparent. A good new entry into the fast food market.

New Surrey Location
Submitted Friday, October 15, 2010 - 11:59am [Dine in]

Went to the new Surrey location of Memphis Blues a few weeks after it opened, and it was absolutely hopping. Having been to other locations I already knew what to expect, but for someone who might be here for the first time it was extremely helpful of the staff working to let people know that they can take a seat, then come up and order, and the food will be taken to their table. I have to give them kudos here as that isn't always done at the other locations.

The food itself was very good, I am a pulled pork and beef brisket guy and I wasn't disappointed. My only gripe would be that I wished they would give a little more of each when you get the combo. These are the two items that are always a must have here. I also love the choice of different bottled sodas, washing this down with a Boylan Lemon Soda was the cherry on top.

A Taste Of Chile
Submitted Friday, October 1, 2010 - 12:16pm [Dine in]

Having been to Chile a few times now, it is great to find some of the tastes that I have greatly enjoyed there here at home. Foremost of these is Panaderia Latina's version of the churrasco, a sandwich containing thinly cut grilled steak. It may not look like it, but it will fill you up and the taste is incredible. Nicely cooked meat, perfectly seasoned sandwiched in a freshly made bun with tomato and a little mayonaise ... just proof that the simple things taste the best. The empanadas here are very good as well, and one really can't go wrong with the abundance of choices of sweet pastries for dessert as well. Now if only they could import some genuine Chilean longanizas to grill and put inside their marraquetas then we'd really be talking.

Prefer to take it to go
Submitted Friday, September 24, 2010 - 11:41am [Dine in]

This is the only place I'd go for donairs in Victoria. They do them the true Greek way a thick pita onions, tomato, meat, and sauce all wrapped up in all its yummy goodness. Let's face facts though, the booths are not designed for comfort, the best way to go is to take it either home or on a sunny day to Saxe Point Park to eat. It is well worth the detour to Esquimalt to grab some grub here.

Great fast friendly service
Submitted Thursday, September 23, 2010 - 9:29am [Dine in]

I have to agree with the previous reviewer, the owner is an incredibly friendly guy with a good sense of humour. I've been coming here for years and hadn't been in for a few months when I cam in with my wife. He immediately recognized me and said, "So she's been keeping you too busy to come buy eh?"

The food is very good and always well made. Excellent flavourful meats for the donairs and lots of fresh vegetables wrapped inside. While there is limited seating and usually a bum wandering over from the door of the Mac's in the same strip mall the food makes the visit here worthwhile.

Sharky's Fish and Chips4517 West Saanich Rd, #4, Victoria
Sour Dough Batter Fish and Chips
Submitted Monday, September 20, 2010 - 12:27pm [Dine in]

First thing is first, Sharky's has the best batter of any fish and chip place I've every tasted. It is a sour dough batter, so the first thing one sees is that it sticks to the fish, not so much air between the batter and the fish. They are mainly take out, with only a handful of seats inside, but we managed to push two together for 4 adults and two kids. Ordered the family pack of 4 halibut, chips, coleslaw, tartar sauce and individual dishes for the kids. Everything was outstanding, the fish was perfectly cooked, the chips are cut big, but cooked so that the outside is crispy, inside nice and soft. Tartar sauce is made in house and has a nice bite without having too much mayo consistency. Easily the best in Victoria, and off the beaten path away from the hordes of tourists.

Grab and go

Many times when looking for something quick I'll phone and head over from the office and by the time I walk over there is maybe a minute or two to wait. It is a combination restaurant/small grocery store offering goods from Mexico and Central America. The burritos are massive and served wet (melted cheese and red sauce poured over the top) and are absolutely delicious. This is a nice little place worth visiting in the central city area of Surrey.

Blast From The Past
Submitted Monday, September 20, 2010 - 12:11pm [Dine in]

Went with family for dinner as we had seen it and remembered the old Mr. Mike's and particularly the Mikeburger. Naturally that was what was ordered. Tasted just like it was remembered, the right amount of sauce, very nice french bread, juicy patty and melted cheese. Perfect retro feel and tastes. The lounge is a little loud, but we choose to sit in the dining room which is much more relaxed. Service was attentive without being to pushy, a very solid place.
