Best Place for Breakfast in Maple Ridge
Submitted Saturday, August 3, 2013 - 9:55am [Dine in]

This is my favourite place to get breakfast in Maple Ridge. If not here, I would rather eat at home. There is just nothing else worth while going to out here. It is a long drive but worth it.

I am pretty sure this is a family run place. The lady who runs it is positive and outgoing. You won't find fancy tablecloths and napkins on your lap here. This is a no-frills kind of place with great food. I have never had any food here that I did not think was great and I am pretty fussy about food.

I was looking forward to going this morning again and realized they are shut down for their vacation until August 11....guess it's breakfast at home.

I highly recommend that you give this place a try. You won't be sorry.

Drove by this location today and there is a notice posted outside that Wings is coming soon. Phone number out of service and the website is shut down. Death to another Maple Ridge restaurant...

Need 50 words so just repeating....

Totally overrated

I had heard from friends that this was a great place for pasta. They line up out the door it's so good, they said. The tortellini alla panna (my very favouirte) is amazing I was told. Ha!

I arrived early for dinner and there was not yet a huge crowd. I was provided a seat in front of the door. So ambiance first. The tables are small and the seats are closely placed, there is no chance a conversation you have would not be overheard. Crowded would be the best description. The table was also close to the door, which was frequently opened and caused a cold draft to all of the surrounding tables. As new diners came in they stood overlooking those tables near the front of the restaurant, not a very comfortable feeling being watched eat.

We ordered main courses and an appetizer. The appetizer came and within 2 minutes the meal came, not giving any time to finish the appetizer. When I mentioned this to waitress that if I finished the appetizer my meal would be cold, she looked at me shocked....really, I did not want it? I asked her to take the appetizer away. There was no apology for bringing the meal too quickly, nor was the appetizer removed from the bill.

The appetizer was tasty, from what I had of it but how do you mess up foccacia. In hindsight I should have eaten it because it was much better than the pasta.

The pasta was a mass of food. The tortelini were gummy and lacked flavour. The sauce was bland. Fresh grated parmesan was not offered, nor fresh ground pepper., There was a small shaker of parmesan on the table that you would get in any pizza shop. At $17 for the entree I could have had a better meal from a grocery store shelf for considerably less..

This is not somewhere that even had enough potential to go back and try again.

Last weekend we went to return to this little place. We had a great experience the first time. There was a great waitress, with a sweet little boy. Great food. We wanted a repeat but when we showed up at the location it was a different restaurant. Such a disappointment. It is hard to find good Italian in the suburbs!

Mediocre at best

I am always on the hunt for great pubs. When I drove by and the sign said now open I thought it was the perfect opportunity to stop for lunch. Upon entry we were impressed by the ambiance of this place. It is gorgeous inside and we hoped that the food would reflect what they have clearly invested here.

The menu had a good variety and there were a few items that I would have liked to try.

The disappointment soon came though. They have no Keno yet, a fun thing we enjoy at the pub. Then there were limited cider choices. The server was pleasant, but average. Our meals again, average.

I asked to substitute yam fries and was told that was no problem. When the bill came $2.50 had been added. I was annoyed that the waitress had not mentioned there would be an increased fee, and she simply replied that it was in the menu so she could not deduct it from the bill. I expressed that it was somthing I thought she should have pointed out.

Steak sandwhich was $12 so another 2.50 made the meal overpriced for a small pub. The All American Breakfast (I believe was the name) was served with ham, the ham was sliced deli meat. I would have expected a real slab of ham. Breakfast was approximately $10, again a little overpriced for what was served.

All in all this is a pub not worth going out of your way for. If you are in the area and are not too particular, it is a mediocre place to stop.

Enjoyed a meal at this establishment this week. Was greeted warmly and offered a choice of seats. The tables had cloth tablecloths and candles. Definitely somewhere you go for a special date. I was sad to learn they no longer had the venison pate I had enjoyed there a number of years ago. The waiter listened to our queries about the wine and offered an excellent wine. The food was tasty, well presented and was of appropriate amounts. The waiter was attentive but not overbearing. We would definitely go back.

Tried it Twice - Won't go back

Tried this pub for the second time last night, I was disappointed. The service was not terrible but was not great either. I have become accustomed to great servers with upbeat attitudes and they can genuinely make your evening more pleasant....this attitue results in a great tip, not so last night. The food as well was sadly lacking. I ordered brushetta, instead of rich tasty bread, it had the consistency of a crouton, the waitress agreed even breaking the "toast" to verify my claim. Additionally, the serving was 4 small 2"x4" pieces of bread that were no thicker than the palm of my hand, and the toppings were sparse. I was given the option for a new item, and I chose potato skins, which I thought were overpriced at $9.00. When they arrived, there were 5 skins no thicker than my pinky with a thin layer of cheese barely covering the surface and a scant sprinkling of bacon bits and green onion along with approximately two tablespoons of sour cream. For $9.00 I expected a heck of a lot more. I will not be returning. It is too bad the bar is quite charming and the last time I was there they had a live band which made for a pleasant ambiance..

A good idea but falls short

We were looking forward to a night of jazz and good Italian food, followed by a walk on the beautiful Kits beach. Unfortunately, we were disappointed. The ambiance is casual outside but better inside of the restaurant. They had had a number of ragtag musicians playing jazz, at times they were in tume...at others not so much. There was a delay in the intial service, however, that improved marginally after the first 1/2 hour when we became one the servers few patrons. At one point we had to attempt to flag her down to order our meal. The server was pleasant overall and attempted to accommodate us. The food was marginal at best. I had tortelini alla panna and, quite frankly, I could get better quality from a grocery store. The pasta was undercooked and lacked flavour. The garlic toast had a unusual margarine-like flavour and we sent it back. The beverages offered were limited and we went through four requests before one could be found.
