Nice little restaurant

I've been here now a number of times for lunch and it's always very good. Clean, well organized restaurant with very good service. Food is always hot and freshly made to order. Servings are generous but not ridiculously large or stingy. Worth checking out. Plenty of free parking nearby.

The beer was good
Submitted Saturday, June 1, 2013 - 8:05pm [Dine in]

We came here for an early dinner Saturday evening before leaving the downtown area. Carderos is in a wonderful location with fabulous views. Unfortunately, can't say the same for the food. We both had burgers and salad. The burger was pretty much inedible. The only flavour to the burger was salt. The salad was limp and old. If you can't make a simple burger and a salad then perhaps it's time to move on and give this prime space to a more deserving restaurant. The beer was great.

Have eaten here countless times since this place first opened for both lunch and dinner and have never had a bad meal. Food is always consistently good, served by very friendly, competent people. The restaurant is very clean and well managed. The owners frequently come by to say hi and make sure everything is satisfactory. Food is served quickly and at a fair price. Highly recommend.

I was trying to find a good sushi place here on the north shore so I don't have to drive all the way to Commercial and got totally suckered into trying this place for lunch based on the good reviews here. 4.5 stars. Yeah right. Very slow, unorganized service and crappy food. I had a negitoro roll - NOT the greatest. Ultra greasy tempura (4 pcs)that I didn't finish. Then along came a complimentary bowl of cold watery miso soup. One sip was enough. Normally miso soup is served first and its usually heated. Apparently not here. I also ordered a dynamite roll. One piece was all I could handle. The worst dynamite roll I've ever had. The couple next to me had to ask for wasabi to go with their sushi. They waited and waited some more, then finally got up and got it from the kitchen themselves. Paid my $15 bill and left without tipping.

Not sure what happened to this place as they started out to be quite good. The last few times I've gone the food has not been at all good. The miso soup is YUCK. I'm not sure but it tastes like its some animal type broth.. The rice is no longer right. It's very cold and tasteless and the rolls were falling apart. Spicy age dashi tofu had a large amount of presidents choice Memories of Thailand spicy chili sauce dumped on top. Not a good combination at all. May work on Thai food but this is supposed to be Japanese. They seem to have changed from quality first to quantity first. Just because you make the rolls really big doesn't mean they taste better. On a positive note the fish did taste fresh. Won't be back.

I have now been to this restaraunt a number of times both for lunch and dinner. We have never had a bad experience. The food and service have always been great. Perfectly spiced according to each diners preference. Mild, medium or hot. The pakoras are especially fabulous. Definitely recommend this restaraunt.

Came here one afternoon for lunch last week and waited in a 30 minute lineup. Fortunately I was surrounded by friendly people to chat with. Unfortunately, the chicken curry I had wasn't the best. It tasted the same as mine after its been frozen and nuked some time later. The rice was wet. I'm guessing it was precooked, dunked in hot water and drained, but not very well. It also came with a 1/4 slice of pita not naan. I'm sure it's not easy to prepare fresh food for that many people in a truck. But for $9 you expect to be full. I am female, 5' tall and not over weight, so dont eat a massive amount. I left and went to my favorite food cart for another 30 minute wait but at least my fish taco was very tasty and I was satisfied. I might go back to Vijs again but be prepared to buy 2 items, drop 20 bucks and eat on the sidewalk.

We really like the atmosphere and feel of this restaruant but some of the food needs HELP. This is our second time here. This time we started with the pakoras. They were completely lacking in any flavour and the dipping sauce tasted like deep fry oil and nothing else. My partner had the Nasi Goreng and said it was really good. He's not a sharing kind of guy so I can't say one way or the other if it was good. I ordered the Cha Ca. It's supposed to be cod, market fresh greens and noodles in a chile coconut milk sauce. This dish contained ONE measly bite of cod and a few really small bits mixed in, a very small amount of market greens and vermicelli noodles in a very rich sauce. Half way through this dish i was shivering over the richness of the suace. Last time I checked cod is cheap as chips. For $15 you would think they could put in more than one lousy chop stick sized piece of cod and a few more greens. It did have a lot of dill but who the hell eats the dill.

Came here recently with a group for lunch. Upon entering I was searching for an excuse to leave the group I was with. It has a musty smell and grimey feel to the place. A notch above McDonalds would probably accurately describe the place.....in that they bring you the food. They have a very small brunch/Lunch menu. I ordered the chicken souvlaki pita with fries. Not sure how a place could screw up fries but these barely saw the hot oil and the souvlaki was tasteless rubbish. Four or five small pieces of chicken and a few tiny bits of tomato. It was supposed to come with tzatziki. If it was there it wasn't noticeable. Someone else had a Greek salad and said it was more like an onion salad. Out of the eight of us I didnt see a meal I would come back for. Perhaps some things are good but I have my doubts so cannot figure out WHY the four stars..

What happened?????
Submitted Monday, December 26, 2011 - 3:51pm [Dine in]

Had lunch here in the past a number of times and had excellent fresh food. The last two times it's been a complete change. We went one night for dinner and ordered a couple of dishes. Within less than 5 minutes our meals were served. Both tasted as though they were warmed up, pre cooked food. What the... Went again some months later for lunch and again unimpressed. Starter soup is now too sweet and my pad thai quite soggy and tasteless. Don't think I'll be back again. SAD because I know they have cooked properly in the past. It used to be my go to place when I needed some good comfort food.

Had dinner here the other night and wished I had stayed at home.. I decided on the house specialty - Roasted lamb. Waitress described it as fall off the bone, roasted lamb shoulder or buttt, roasted with lemon and oregano. She said it was very tender and delicious. What I was actually served was a very tough lamb shank with no seasoning that I could taste whatsoever. More like Mutton which for those that don't know is an old mangy sheep.

Can it get any louder????
Submitted Wednesday, October 26, 2011 - 7:47pm [Dine in]

Can it get any louder...not bloody likely. Incredible noise and lousy food at astronomical prices. Food presentation was probably the worst I've seen at a so called fine dining place. It's almost laughable but the laugh is on anyone that sets foot in this place more than once. This place is clearly for the unsophisticated 30 or so year olds living off daddy and thinking this is THE place to be seen. Those "trend setters" would never waste their own hard earned money here a second time. Service was strange to say the least but that could be because you can't hear yourself think let alone take a proper food order.
